Fed up with your indigestion.
Swallow words one by one.
Your folks got high at a quarter to five.
Don't you feel your growing up undone.

Nothing but the local DJ.
He said he had some songs to play.
What went down from his fooling around.
Gave hope and a brand new day.

[Chorus]
Imagine all the girls,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the boys,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the strings,
Eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee.

And the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums.

Nothing was the same again.
All about where and when.
Blowing our minds in our life unkind.
Gotta love the bpm.
When the smoke was all baton
Remember how this begun.
We wore his love like a hand in a glove.
Where the future plays it all night long.

[Chorus]

And the drums [Repeat x19]

[Chorus]

And the drums,
Ah ah ah ah, ah, ah, ah, oh.

[Chorus]

And the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums

General Comment:TheOtherRainMan, you really got it!

This song is so, so good. The chorus has such a great energy and coolness.
I relate to it a lot, because from 11-14yrs old my life sucked, I couldn't find a meaning to it. And then I started to go out, have real friends and listening to really good music, enjoying some really good literature and other arts, and I don't think all this has made the world a livelier place for me... I think it has saved my soul...!

It's songs like this one, genius magical summaries of feelings, situations and states-of-mind, that save our souls, indeed.

General Comment:Hey, if anyone's interested, Marina and the Diamonds. Look. Her. Up!

She's really good, just super talented. hah, i so made the connection here because she says "and let the drum beat drop" Like 20 times as well, just not all on top of each other.

    So, yeah! Check her out!

My Interpretation:It's been discussed and agreed upon here that the lyrics aren't meaningful in itself. The real meaning of the song though comes through the band's performance and the music/beat.

The first part of the first verse describes the boredom ("Folks got high at a quarter to five") and depression ("Don't you feel you're growing up undone?") that comes with the grind of everyday life. Then, when a local DJ starts to play his up-beat mixes and such, the world becomes alive and "Gave hope and a brand new day".

The second verse goes on to describe how life has changed because of the DJ and his beats. The change is positive and the DJ's love fits unto the public. The part that really struck out to me was "Nothing was the same again / All about where and when". Along with the band's performance of these vocals, it seems to tell of how everyone seemed to come back to life.

Ultimately, the song is about how one great song, DJ, remix, movie, or any work of art for that matter can make the world a livelier place.

General Comment:If anybody's wondering what BPM stands for I believe that would be "beats per minute," the measure of a pulse, in reference to the beat of the music.

General Comment:I agree, the repetition of 'the drums' is quite irritating, but the song is catchy nonetheless.
