Medicine man
You dance me across the country
Medicine man
You dance me across the sky
Medicine man
Now my feet are dragging
Medicine man
Can you hear my cry?

I don't wanna be
The one, the one, the one
That you forget
I don't, I don't, I don't
Just want to be your regret

Medicine man
I lay my head in your hands
Medicine man
You will clear my mind
Medicine man
Can you heal my body?
Medicine man
Can you hear my cry?

I don't wanna be
The one, the one, the one
That you forget
I don't, I don't, I don't
Just want to be your regret

I don't know where to begin
I don't know how to break
The bottle I'm living in
Do anything to take away
The memory of him
Can't you see that I have no way out?
Don't leave me now

Medicine man, clear my mind
Medicine man, whoa
Medicine man, hear my cry
Medicine man, no
Medicine man, you are here in my mind
Medicine man, oh
Medicine man, hear my cry
Medicine man, whoa
Medicine man, medicine man
Medicine man, whoa

General Comment:I think this song isn't directly about drugs, she's calling this guy a drug. He's addicting. He's the "medicine man".

    "Medicine man
You dance me across the country
    Medicine man
You dance me across the sky
    Medicine man
    Now my feet are dragging
    Medicine man
    Can you hear my cry?"

This guy was making everything seem like fun and games, but now she's beginning to realize that she's falling behind, he's "dancing" away without her. She's calling out to him, but he's moving on, and she says:
    "I don't wanna be
The one, the one, the one
    That you forget
    I don't, I don't, I don't
Just want to be your regret"

The next verse/chorus is the same, and then the bridge:

I don't know where to begin
I don't know how to break
    The bottle I'm living in
    Do anything to take away
    The memory of him
Can't you see that I have no way out?
    Don't leave me now

She's saying she's trapped by the memory of him, it's like a bottle. (In fact, in the song "Pretty Down to Your Bones", she also references a bottle. "I never wanted anyone else/ I don't want anyone else but you/ You are the neck of the bottle I'm living in.") She wants to just forget him, but she has no way out of this bottle (she can't get over him), she's begging for him to stay.

General Comment:I think it's comparing a man and drugs...

    Medicine man
You dance me across the country
    Medicine man
You dance me across the sky
    Medicine man
    Now my feet are dragging
    Medicine man
    Can you hear my cry?

----> Everything is fun in the beginning and she's having a great time (dancing across the country and sky), and then the relationship/drug use takes its toll (her feet start dragging and she's crying). The Medicine Man could either be seen as the drug dealer, or the boyfriend.

    I don't wanna be
The one, the one, the one
    That you forget
    I don't, I don't, I don't
Just want to be your regret

-----> I don't know from experience, but I think whomever is taking drugs.. is a forgetful person, and ultimately regrets their drug use. Compared to a relationship, the girl does not want to be dispensable... forgotten... a regret.

General Comment:i think this song is about a woman trying to get over an old lover.
but she is definitely easing the pain with alcohol as her 'medicine man'.
specifically when she does that rad little hook and says:

"i don't know how to break
    the bottle i'm living in".

she is drowning her sorrows in booze to me.

    the song is ultra rad.

i especially like the bridge, where it feels as if shes breaking down

"i dont want to be the one. . ."

    ah. love it.

General Comment:Alright, this is going to sound really messed up, but whenever I listen to this song I always envision this girl dancing around in a pharmasy and going up to the pharmasist who she had hooked up with, and saying "I dont want to be the one you regret"

General Comment:When "From leaving now?" plays, I hear "Don't leave me now..."

I believe this song is about a person that rescues the singer from a stressful or traumatic situation/abusive relationship, and this person is similar to a healer--simply by being themselves--and the singer places their trust in the person and expects them to support them in hard times that the 'medicine man' can't really deal with. Thus the singer prays to not simply be a regret to the 'medicine man.'

The singer then feels that the 'medicine man' is solving the 'symptoms' but not the 'disease,' and cries out for help; help with getting out of this harmful rut they are stuck in, [like being trapped on a ship-in-a-bottle] but just can't seem to find away out of without the help of the 'medicine man.'

On a side note: This song rang quite true for me not too long ago...
...and I still don't know how to break the bottle I'm living in...

General Comment:I think she's on drugs.

Medicine man, you dance me across the country
Medicine man, you dance me across the sky

There, she's obviously like flyin high.

Medicine man, now my feet are dragging
Medicine man, can you hear my cry?

&There she's comming off her high.

    I don't wanna be
The one, the one, the one
    That you forget

She doesn't want to get lost in drug use and addicted.

Medicine man, I lay my head in your hands

She wants the drugs to save her.

Medicine man, you will clear my mind
Medicine man, can you heal my body?
Medicine man, can you hear my cry?

She wants to know if they will help.
