A coma might feel better than this attempting to discover where to begin
You're weighed down you're full of something of sickness and desertion
You're weighed down you're full of something you're underneath it all
So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high
There's no need to rush we're all just waiting, waiting to die
Hope in better place is all I need with moments of innocence and mystery
oh it's the little things you miss like waking up all alone
oh it's the little things you miss when you're underneath it all
So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high there's no need to rush we're all just waiting, waiting to die
All your friends seem like enemies when you're broken down and empty ooh ooh all your friends seem like enemies when you're broken down and empty
So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high there's no need to rush we're all just waiting, waiting to die

A coma might feel better than this attempting to discover where to begin
^^
He's saying that the breakup is so painful for him, it would be easier just to sleep though it, as if you were in a coma. Although you have to go through some serious physical trauma to reach the state of a coma, at least you'd be asleep, and even something as traumatic as being in a coma would still feel better because then he'd be unaware of his own sadness.
You're weighed down you're full of something of sickness and desertion
^^
Basically, you just feel so bad. You feel like you were left and rejected and deserted, and it makes you so sad that it just takes over your whole body. You're filled with pain.
You're weighed down you're full of something you're underneath it all
^^
I think "underneath it all" is another way of him saying, "you're going through the worst of it, you're under the dark cloud of pain and sadness, you're in the thick of the hurt, etc"
So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high
There's no need to rush we're all just waiting, waiting to die
^^
This part was very clear to me actually. It's about not committing suicide no matter how much you want to die. Don't rush death by killing yourself, in the end, we're all going to be gone anyway. Don't let the sadness push you out the door, so to speak. Hold your head up high, say bye to love, and don't let it push you to giving up on life completely. (Easier said than done, BTW)
Hope in better place is all I need with moments of innocence and mystery
oh it's the little things you miss like waking up all alone
oh it's the little things you miss when you're underneath it all
^^
He's remembering the good times, remembering all the things about the relationship that he wants to have again and is hurting so much without. When you're in the deep sadness of a breakup, you don't think of the fights... you think of all the little things that person did, the little things are usually unique to each person / relationship and it's impossible to replicate them in a new relationship. That's why you miss the little things the most.
So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high there's no need to rush we're all just waiting, waiting to die
All your friends seem like enemies when you're broken down and empty ooh ooh all your friends seem like enemies when you're broken down and empty
^^
This is about shutting down in the darkness of depression. When you're going through a breakup that hard, you shut yourself out from the rest of the world. Your friends seem like enemies because they don't understand. And it's like they are enemies because you avoid them and retreat into your own mind and don't want to have to explain how you feel to them.
So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high there's no need to rush we're all just waiting, waiting to die
-------------------------
The song is about the most painful kind of breakup. It's not about a breakup of a casual couple or a teenage lust or a fling or anything like that. It's about the breakup of a very serious relationship. That's the only thing that can make people feel the way that's described in the song.
Attempting to discover where to begin
You're weighed down, you're full of something
Of sickness and desertion
You're weighed down, you're full of something
You're underneath it all
^^he is in a lot of pain because some type of sickness has taken the person over.
[ Chorus ]
So say goodbye to love
And hold your head up high
There's no need to rush
We're all just waiting
Waiting to die
^^the person is clearly really sick and knows they are going to die, Dallas is reassuring them by telling them that in a way, everyone is just waiting to die.
Hope in a better place is all I need
With moments of innocence and mystery
Oh, it's the little things you miss
Like waking up all alone
Oh, it's the little things you miss
When you're underneath it all
^^he has no hope left for this sick person, the illness is consuming them
All your friends seem like enemies
When you're broken down and empty
Oooh oooh
All your friends seem like enemies
When you're broken down and empty
Ooooh oooh
^^no one can help this person and they don't want to talk to their friends about the sickness because they cant trust anyone
**my interpretation probably sounds stupid, sorry if its not what you were looking for
'A coma might feel better than this
Attempting to discover where to begin
You're weighed down, you're full of something
Of sickness and desertion
You're weighed down, you're full of something
You're underneath it all'
That whole closing your eyes and wishing never to wake, sleeping through the pain.
When you've lost yourself, you are truly lost, It's a scary place to be.
You feel like the world is crushing you and you are so sick with the negative. (classic depression)
'So say goodbye to love
And hold your head up high
There's no need to rush
We're all just waiting
Waiting to die'
The song gets a little brighter here but then depressing again. Telling everybody that we all feel so it's normal to feel like shit sometimes.
What's the point of rushing through life. when you are in this frame of mind ,living life is pointless, we're all heading for the same destination (death) and then we're just 'dust in the wind' (Kansas song, love it).
'Hope in a better place is all I need
With moments of innocence and mystery
Oh, it's the little things you miss
Like waking up all alone
Oh, it's the little things you miss
When you're underneath it all'
Oh to be a child again, not having to worry about what we worry about. somehow life ends up corrupting you and then you're your enemy. You turn against yourself.
You take the tiny things for granted, then when the depression sets in all you want are the tiny things.
'All your friends seem like enemies
When you're broken down and empty
Oooh oooh
All your friends seem like enemies
When you're broken down and empty
Ooooh oooh'
God this gets me, the whole nobody can love you until you love yourself business.
You feel worthless so why would they think you're worth anything. So sad.
I don't know if anyone agrees but when i hear this song it's not so much sad more like HEY thats life. thanks for reading <3 <3
I see the song as being Dallas' reflection of a time when his life was crumbling around him and he found himself in a more hopeless state than he ever had been in before. He feels as if he is overwhelmed, helpless, and lost. Rather than running from these feelings of defeat, he seems to accept them and recognize the low he is currently stuck at in his life. The lines "So say goodbye to love" and "All your friends seem like enemies When you're broken down and empty" makes me think that he has been dependent on a soul mate of sorts when he was in a fragile stage like the one he is in now but possibly a recent shortcoming with a girl has made him cynical and doubtful that anyone else, whether a friend or a lover, can help. While I don't know Green's view on heaven or God, I view the line "Hope in a better place is all I need" as a realization that everything on earth that he has tried to use as happiness alludes him in his current time of hurt and that a God or spritual connection is the only thing left that can heal him.
I feel as if I relate verrry well to these lyrics and that's just my opinion of the song. Agree or disagree, I'd like to know what you think as well.
"All your friends seem like enemies when you're broken down and empty"
"Its the little things you miss, like waking up all alone"
"So say goodbye to love, and hold your head up high..."
the weighed down person is someone that the 1st person likes. but in this case the 1st person isn't saying goodbye to love.
