The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
Lord please have sympathy, and forgive my cool young history, as
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?

I love the Lord,
But sometimes it's like that I love me more
I love the peace
And I love the war
I love the seas
And I love the shore
No love for no beach
Baby, that's loyal
But she doesn't see, therefore I spoil
I trip, I fall
Run up and brawl.
I love her, with all my heart
Every vein, every vessel,
Every bullet lodged
With every flower that I ever took apart
She said - that she would give me greatness,
Status, placement above the others
My face would grace covers
Of the magazines of the hustlers
Paper, the likes of which that I had never seen
Her eyes glow green with the logo of our dreams
The purpose of our scene,
The obscene obsession for the bling
She would be my queen,
I could be her king
Together, she would make me cool
And we would both rule, forever,
And I would never feel pain
And never be without pleasure, ever, again
And if the rain stops,
And everything's dry
She would cry
Just so I can drink the tears from her eyes
She'll teach me how to fly
Even cushion my fall
If my engines ever stall
And I plummet from the sky
But she will keep me high
And if I ever die
She would commission my image on her bosom
To hum
Or maybe she'd retire as well
A match made in Heaven set the fires in Hell
And I'll be...

The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
Lord please have sympathy, and forgive My Cool Young History as
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?

And so began our reign
The Trinity, her and I came
No weather man could ever stand
What her and I can
Hella hard
Umbrella, whatever,
Put plywood on propeller panes,
And pray to God that the flood subside
'Cause you gonna need a sub till he does reply
And not one of Jared's
You think it's all arid
And everything's irie
Another supply
That means another July
Inside my endless summer
That was just the eye of the Unger
Felix, 'cause he is the cleanest among the
Younger, outstanding achieving up-and-comers
The ones that had deadbeat daddies
And well to do mommas
But not well enough to keep 'em from us
The ones that were fightin' in class
Who might not pass
Rap record pressure to laugh
And a life not fast
"Can you feel it?"
That's what I got asked
"Do I love her?"
I said "I don't know"
Streets got my heart, Game got my soul
One time's my sunshine will never hurt your soul
Quote
To a crying, dishonored baby momma
Who's the momma to a daughter
That I had fathered from afar
My new lady gave me a Mercedes
And a necklace with a solid gold key
Like the starter of a car
The opener of a door or two pounds of raw
You gave me a baby, but what about lately?
Then ha-ha-ha-ha-ha'd
Right up in her face, G
There's more fish in the sea,
I'm on my mission to be, be

The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
Lord please have sympathy, and forgive my cool young history
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?
The coolest niggah... what? The coolest niggah... what?

Come. These are the tales of The Cool.
Guaranteed to make you go and fail from your school
And seek unholy grails like a fool
And hang with the players of the pool
Fast talkin' on the hustle
No Heaven up above you
No Hell underneath ye
And nowhere will receive thee
So.
Shed no tear
When we're not here
And keep your faith,
As we chase

The Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool,
Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool, Cool...

General Comment:Lupe fiasco is most definitely the deepest rapper. Every lyric he drops means something, and I can't think of any rappers that are as gifted lyrically as Lupe. I mean Lil Wayne is a very lyrical rapper but he has to be because he has to come up with a different way to say the same damn things in all his songs, yeah wayne has some funny metaphors but he is not even close to being the true lyricist that Lupe Fiasco is. I don't care what anybody says Wayne is not the best rapper alive Lupe is the best

General Comment:Well nothing I have to say that someone hasnt already covered once or twice..Though I would like to note that "A match made in Heaven set the fires in Hell" could be an allusion to Satan falling from heaving to hell. He it seems more like a parallel between kids like Michael Young who are born innocent (An angel like Satan) but falls from grace into the illicit underworld of the street (Hell being born and perpetuated by the travesty of the angel's fall and God's banishment).

On another note, does anyone know what "That was just the eye of the Unger/
Felix, 'cause he is the cleanest amongst the younger" means? I looked around online and someone said it was a reference to Hurricane Felix in the carribean, correlating with his weather word play but it still sort of confuses me. Probably I dont know for the life of me what "Unger" could mean..

Song Meaning:"Cause you don't need a sub til he does reply"
People left out that sub means an automatic weapon, which fits into the whole thing about pieces and wars and drugs and the theme of the song

Song Meaning:Let me first start off saying that I thought I knew the meaning of this song, I had the right track, but after weighing in the factors, and who Lupe is, it just snapped to me that I was off and too specific in content.

What I first thought the song was, that the drug game (personified as "her"), was "shitted on" by Lupe (dumped her; in white people idioms), thus crowning him "the coolest" nigga around. In the beginning he talks about reigning supreme by getting with her. But towards the end of the song, he basically uses her, and his new lady gives him a mercedes and a solid gold key (maybe she's hip hop), so he dumps her (do i love her? i dunno.... then right up in her face g/ there's more fish in the sea; i'm on my mission to be.)

I just skimped through that theory because I found it wrong. THIS SONG IS A HEEDING MESSAGE!! Lupe is muslim (alhamdililah.)

This song is for those following faith living in the hood. First thing he says is "I LOVE THE LORD." In Islam, or any religion for that matter; you love the Lord. Then he goes into the weakness of faith of loving yourself more. Thinking that things are in your own hands. NO LOVE FOR NO BEACH (BITCH), BABY THAT"S LAW; this is what I got; "Her" in this song isn't a person; it's all things bad in the hood that usually leads you up to being "cool." This specific relation is to drug dealing. But it doesn't necessarily just have to be. He's saying that as a moral God-fearing soul, you shouldn't have love for the evildoings. But SHE DOESN"T SEE, THEREFORE I SPOIL. As a muslim living in the hood, I could attest that it seems easier doing your "dirt" around those who don't believe in the same thing as you; basically people who are "blind" to your ethics. You are the company you keep. If you're hanging around people who do bad things (sell drugs, gangs, etc), you are likely going to end up like them or take from their character. I TRICK I FALL RUN UP IN RAW/I LOVE HER WITH ALL MY HEART; he jumped into evildoing "raw" (unprotected in the commitment sense; sort of "all-in".) I'm just throwing this out there; but EVERY FLOWER THAT I PULLED APART: that could mean virginity; but since it's not really about a girl, it's not really about sexual virginity, more of losing innocence in the hood.

He does this because of the worldly trophies/possessions/glamour he'll get from it; SHE SAID SHE'LL GIVE ME GREATNESS, STATUS, PLACEMENT, ABOVE THE OTHERS MY FACE WILL GRACE MAGAZINES OF THE HUSTLERS. The rest of the verse tells the temptations of what he'll get if he "marries" her (commits to evildoing): SHE WILL MAKE ME COOL, WE WILL BOTH RULE FOREVER. He's smart enough to know there is no "forever"; so it's just showing introspectively, that the IDEA of temptation or want, to be "cool", makes you think you can live in bless indefinitely. A big no no in spirituality. Nothing is forever.

The second verse; things aren't what they seem.

NO WEATHERMAN COULD STAND WHERE HER AND I CAME (inevitable tribulations)

YOU THINK IT'S ALL ARRID, AND EVERYTINGS IRRIE, ANOTH SUPPLY; THAT MEANS ANOTH' JULY; INSIDE MY ENDLESS SUMMER.

He also explains who it is that gets drawn into it; the ones that have well to do mommas. Family structure is broken in the hood. Fathers aren't around a lot.

WELL TO DO MOMMAS/BUT NOT WELL ENOUGH TO KEEP EM FROM US

THE ONES THAT WERE FIGHTING IN CLASS/ WHO MIGHT NOT PASS/ RAP RECORD PRESSURED TO LAUGH/ AT A LIFE NOT FAST

That's pretty deep. Rap laughs at him (his normalcy,) family structure is blown, his society gets the best of him.

CAN YOU FEEL IT? THAT'S WHEN I GOT ASKED/ DO I LOVE HER? SAID I DUNNO/ STREETS GOT MY HEART GAME GOT MY SOUL/ONE TIME MISS SUNSHINE'A WILL NEVER HURT YA SOUL

The more you do something the more your feelings get involved. You could be "good", but start doing bad things. Missing sunshine for a while will give you a black heart before you know it. But it gets crazy:

Quote: To a crying dishonored baby mama
Who's the mama to a daughter that I had fathered from afar

This is the second craziest verse in this song: religiously, lyrically, mentally. That whole baby momma drama compared to the "right" way to approach matrimony and family. Living this life perpetuates itself. No commitment in responsibilities. But who is the baby momma? Drug dealing? Hood? Pretty deep. Is he cool for marrying her or is he the "coolest" for dumping her?

COME THESE ARE THE TALES OF THE COOL/ GUARANTEED TO MAKE YOU GO AND FAIL FROM YA SCHOOL/ AND SEEKING HOLY GRAILS LIKE A FOOL/ AND HANG WITH THE PLAYERS OF THE POOL/ FAST TALKING AND KNOW THE HUSTLE

Just inadvertently called out the outcome of chasing being cool.

NO HEAVEN UP ABOVE YOU/ NO HELL UNDERNEATH HE/ AND NO ONE WILL RECEIVE THEE

First craziest line: Living as if there's no heaven above you or hell beneath thee. Islam talks about thinking of hell and heaven. If you reflect on the afterlife you'll be more conscious of your decisions in this life. If you think as if there's no hell or heaven you're living like a soulless heathen who's only chasing this world.

Shed no tear, when we're not here
And keep your faith, as we chase; THE COOL

This is a warning for those who want to dwell in evil. This song makes me want to stop doing bad things as someone who believes in righteous acts. Mashallah Lupe is very talented and has a good compass for thought. Mashallah.

General Comment:If you listen close at the beggining, there is the sound of a slab of rock being moved. Im pretty sure this has to do with his song "the cool". In that song it talks about how "the cool" is dead and buried. The rock slab moving is like the cool being ressurected from his grave kinda like jesus. I just figured that out and thought it was cool.

General Comment:OK SO I JUST SIGNED UP TO GIVE MY INTERPRETATION OF THIS AMAZING SONG BY LUPE ONE OF HIS DEEPEST
it might be long cuz imma break it all down but i hope most of you agree. most played song in my ipod.
    Verse 1]
    I love the Lord,
But sometimes it's like that I love me more
    I love the peace
    And I love the war
    I love the seas
    and I love the shore
    No love for no beach
    baby, that's law

ill break down this first part- i love the lord but sometimes its like i love me more. literal meaning we put ourselves are want before anyone even god.....I love the peace And I love the wAR; he is saying that we as humans cant do good without doing some bad we sin to not sin ?i think ... I love the seas and I love the shore No love for no beach baby, that's law; he is saying we all love to do good and bad, black and white the opposite of each other the sea and the shore, but we arent supposed to be that way we cant stand in the gray area(beach) its the law of life.

But she doesn't see, therefore I spoil
    I trip, I fall
    run up and raw.
I love her, with all my heart
    Every vein, every vessel,
    every bullet lodged
first of all she isnt a girl she is his dream. But she doesn't see, therefore I spoil- meaning he feels his dream is unreachable and he is slowly dying trying to get it.and he will sacrifice all to get it. last part basically literal. The love he has for his dream.

With every flower that I ever took apart
She said - that she would give me greatness, status, placement above the others My face would grace covers
of the magazines of the hustlers
with every flower i ever took apart- everyone he pushed aside and stepped on to get to his dream.last part again a literal meaning she(his dream) would give im those things.

Paper, the likes of which that I had never seen
Her eyes glow green with the logo of our dreams
    The purpose of our scene,
The obscene obsession for the bling

his dream had turned into a greed,it turned into a paper chase .the obscene obsession for the bling- he like all mainstream rappers had to show off what he had..

    I could be her king
Together, she would make me cool
and we would both rule, forever,
And I would never feel pain
and never be without pleasure, ever, again
    And if the rain stops,
    And everything's dry
    she would cry
Just so I can drink the tears from her eyes

he talks about being the best in the first line. seconfd line he throws in his other song "the cool"(listen and you will understand). And I would never feel pain and never be without pleasure, ever, again- he is saying he thinks that he doesnt need anything but the money and the fame.
And if the rain stops, And everything's dry she would cry Just so I can drink the tears from her eyes; he here refers to his "reign"(rain) as a king.if something should go wrong and he stopped being the best he thinks she will comfort him.hes wrong.

She'll teach me how to fly
    Even cushion my fall
    If my engines ever stall
and I plummet from the sky
But she will keep me high
    And if I ever die
She would comission my image on her bosom
    To him
im mixed about the first 5 lines so i need some help if anyone can help me out. last part he is saying that if he ever dies he will become a legend his name always remembered in the hip hop book (2pac,Biggy)

Or maybe she'd retire as well
A match made in Heaven set the fires in Hell
    and I'll be...
this first line says that maybe the greatest dying would be the end to hip hop...like him leaving would end the last hope hip hop has now.that last verse is amazing you can interpret that how you want.

i can keep goin but its long enough already i covered the first verse if you guys wanna here my interpretation of the other ones just let me know and ill post it up

General Comment:We read this poem in english class I think hes refrencing it in this song.

    We real cool. We
    Left school. We

    Lurk late. We
    Strike straight. We

    Sing sin. We
    Thin gin. We

    Jazz June. We
    Die soon.

    Its called "The Pool Players"

Could be a reference when he said...
"Come, these are the tales of The Cool
Guaranteed to go and make you fail from your school
And seek unholy grails like a fool
And hang with the players of the pool"
