I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf
While jacking off listening to Mozart
You bitch and moan about LA
Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway
You don't eat meat
And drive electrical cars
You're so indie rock it's almost an art
You need SPF 45 just to stay alive

[Chorus]
You're so gay and you don't even like boys
No you don't even like
No you don't even like
No you don't even like boys
You're so gay and you don't even like boys
No you don't even like
No you don't even like
No you don't even like

You're so sad maybe you should buy a happy meal
You're so skinny you should really Super Size the deal
Secretly you're so amused
That nobody understands you
I'm so mean cause I cannot get you outta' your head
I'm so angry cause you'd rather MySpace instead
I can't believe I fell in love with someone that wears more makeup than

[Chorus]

You walk around like you're oh so debonair
You pull 'em down and there's really nothing there
I wish you would just be real with me

[Chorus]

Oh no no no no no no no

[Chorus]

My Opinion:All you idiots SHE IS A GAY SUPPORTER! This song dosnt say anything mean about homosexuals besides using some stereotypes. It's just a fun song and I don't think it has a real in-depth meaning.

General Comment:People calm down! I hate homophobic people but this song isn't offensive to me, a bi-sexual girl and my gay guy friends. In fact we love it, once in a while we'll sing it together.
She is just stating that her ex-boyfriend was very girly and at times she wondered if he was gay. She isn't hating on gay people. Gay men happen to be more feminine and lesbians happen to be more masculine. So gay in this song is just saying that he is really feminine. Her intentions wasn't to hurt the feelings of gay people. This song isn't a serious song, I mean come on. Have you heard the ending? "And you don't even like........... PENIS" Because shouting penis at the end of a song makes everything even more serious.
And everyone freaking out over this being a "homophobic" song you're a too serious person.
If you're one of the people freaking out, I bet you've made a racist joke or laughed at one before. So if you think that this song is hurtful you're a hypocrite.

General Comment:I feel offended by this song and by the fact that she probably doesn't even understand why this could be taken as offensive.

General Comment:Oh wow peeps need to take a chill pill.

I'm sort of on the fence with this song. I don't think she's in any way intentionally being homophobic; she's using a stereotype to complain about how a stereotypically "gay" boy she liked "acted so gay" when he wasn't even "gay". I think that her using the term in this context is perpetuating the stereotype but in the end I think that it's an indication of the times we live in where that's the way that A LOT of people think even if it's not really factual.

I have to say I really find it hilarious that there are people coming on here and whining about how she's being offensive and mean to vegetarians and whatever... I mean seriously!?! She's not talking about actual vegetarians, or environmentalists, or people who read or listen to classical music. She's talking about fake people who are so fake and pompous and superficial that they pretend to be into that stuff because they think it makes them look cool and "deep".

Anyways! The real reason I came on here is related to the ACTUAL PURPOSE of the site, you know song meanings?
Did anyone else notice that "You're going through some kind psychological change in your life" is a reference to Venus Xtravaganza in Paris is Burning (1990's documentary about drag queens)?

General Comment:Katy Perry is the most boring and untalented popstar. She relies solely on her "good looks" and "fun" songs to make money vs say someone like Lady Gaga who uses her looks, her art, her performances, etc etc...

As a gay man, I am not offended by this song because she says "you're so gay". I'm honestly not offended period because it's a dumb song to begin with. What does bother me is she has never taken any responsibility with the message/lyrics of this song. I am annoyed that she basically makes any heterosexual dude who is "sensitive" or into certain things about to be "girly" or "effeminate". You're so gay but you don't like boys, but you're gay because you like to wear "nice" clothes from H&M(that places sucks) and read Hemingway(who sucks) and wear makeup. Basically, she's assigning a gender role to me. It sounds like "you're not a real man because you like this". That to me is reverse sexism.

In a world where sexism and violence against women is still prevalent, Katy Perry is only making things worse. Sure, you can say "hey, well, you're reading into it too much", but I'm only reading into too much because all her young, teenage, and tween fans are going to read into it, running around yelling "you're gay 'cause you like so and so and you read this and you wear that".

Katy Perry is just another dumbass popstar who ruins pop music with songs like this. Do you think Britney Spears or Christina would have written songs like this? Absolutely not. It's funny how she talks about "indie rock" as if she knew what it meant too. I loved how she tried to be edgy by dating that dude from that lame pop/rap/rock band and now that actor with the crazy hair. SCREW KATY PERRY.

General Comment:It isn't that she's being homophobic by using the word gay. The point as to why this isn't ok is because it's saying it's ok to stereotype gays. He's self absorbed and dresses nice so he's acting really gay. No, acting gay is to take part in romantic or sexual activities with someone of the same sex, nothing else.
The point is that the word gay is so commonly used as an insult, just like the word faggot. Nobody goes around saying, "hey man stop being such a nigger" that's completely unacceptable, so why is saying "hey man stop being such a faggot" ok? They're the same thing, they are both horrible, hateful and degrading words that shouldn't be used as insults.
Why is it thought that dressing or acting a certain way means someone is acting gay? Because it doesn't, Gays don't all dress or act in that way, they can be clean shaven, smell nice, conceited, fashion oriented, and feminine, but they can also be dirty, smelly, ugly and masculine. They are all different, just like straight people are.

General Comment:She isn't trying to insult gay people. The word "gay" isn't supposed to be seen as an insult either. I mean, she wrote a song about how she kissed a girl and she liked it and later said she really DID kiss a girl, so why would she be ragging on homosexuals after that? Seriously, it's a humorous song. She is meaning, this boy is just really self-absorbed, and she's saying he should have been gay, since he loves himself too much. You know? So don't take anything personaly or anything.
