Ion displacement
Won't work in the basement
Especially when I'm not with you
Here in the heartland
A feeling so startling
I don't know what i should do

Oh Bryn, you see through the dark
Right past the fireflies that sleep in my heart
You know it's easy to see
Wait for the season to come back to me

Nights by the ocean
A westerly motion
That moves California to sea
Eyes like a seagull
No Kansas-born beetle
Could ever come close to that free

Oh Bryn, you see through the dark
Right past the fireflies that feed in my heart
You know it's easy to see
Wait for the season to come back to me

General Comment:I think it's about summer romance and how although it was originally a summer fling, he ended up being more emotionally invested that he planned.

    Ion displacement
    Won't work in the basement
Especially when I'm not with you
    -no chemistry without her

    Here in the heartland
    A feeling so startling
    I don't know what i should do
-heartbreak is a new feeling by being apart
    -heartland = hometown

Oh Bryn, you see through the dark
Right past the fireflies that sleep in my heart
You know it's easy to see
Wait for the season to come back to me
-fireflies are a stereotypical summer activity. they're "asleep" because they aren't on vacation anymore.
-wait for the season = wait for summertime to be reunited

    Nights by the ocean
    A westerly motion
    That moves California to sea
    Eyes like a seagull
    No Kansas-born beetle
Could ever come close to that free
-describing being in love during summer/spending days at the beach/being 'free'

My Interpretation:It's "ion displacement." The singer is clearly indicating the lack of chemistry he feels in the nether regions when Bryn isn't around. Obvs.

General Comment:Second verse sounds like "Right past the fireflies that feed in my heart." There is no hard "P" sound to make "speed", and I'm pretty sure the "s" sound is created by the harmonizing vocals.

General Comment:I think it's a lullaby sort of song, about a girl he cares about who sees the real him. He probably misses her. I want to name my daughter Bryn because of this song, I love it so much. :)

General Comment:Could they be referring to Bryn as the ward in Greater Manchester, England?

Lyric Correction:The lyrics booklet definitely reads "Ion displacement won't work in the basement" and "Kansas-born beetle."

This song has such... weird... lyrics, but it's my favorite song of all time, mainly because every time I listen to it I get this kind of subliminal feel from the totally stupid lyrics that this Bryn is like the most perfect girl in the whole world. Why? I don't know, it's definitely not the lyrics that convey that meaning at all... it's like reading between the lines... but I want to meet her :D

General Comment:The first two lines are wrong...
"Ion displacement won't work in the basement
Especially when I'm not with you"
