Hello world
Hope you're listening
Forgive me if I'm young
For speaking out of turn
There's someone I've been missing
I think that they could be
The better half of me
They're in they're in the wrong place trying to make it right
But I'm tired of justifying
So I say you'll
[Chorus]
Come home
Come home
'Cause I've been waiting for you
For so long
For so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
The fight for you is all I've ever known
So come home
Oooh
I get lost in the beauty
Of everything I see
The world ain't as half as bad
As they paint it to be
If all the sons
If all the daughters
Stopped to take it in
Well hopefully the hate subsides and the love can begin
It might start now yeah
Well maybe I'm just dreaming out loud
Until then
[Chorus]
Everything I can't be
Is everything you should be
And that's why I need you here
Everything I can't be
Is everything you should be
And that's why I need you here
So hear this now
[Chorus]
Hope you're listening
Forgive me if I'm young
For speaking out of turn
There's someone I've been missing
I think that they could be
The better half of me
They're in they're in the wrong place trying to make it right
But I'm tired of justifying
So I say you'll
[Chorus]
Come home
Come home
'Cause I've been waiting for you
For so long
For so long
And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all I see is you and me
The fight for you is all I've ever known
So come home
Oooh
I get lost in the beauty
Of everything I see
The world ain't as half as bad

Everything I can't be

Everything I can't be

Saying that, I absolutely adore the whole song.
But those few lines, they're about how us young people are too concerned with our own self-pity and hatred to see the good in the world. Now, I'm 13, so I think I'm allowed to say that. The most part of teenagers are such pessemists, it's actually sad to see. I hate it when adults say that about our generation, stero-type us into this huge neon-yellow file in the cabinet which reads, 'Selfish, Self-Pitying, Love-Struck Fools', but, to my dismay, it's true for the most part of my generation.
This is not a sad song at all it is a plea tho.
Reading thru the comments I could see where the war thing comes in to play. Hello world I'm sorry for being a butt and messing up such a pretty world. Please send our soldiers home yeah.
I love this song.
I also love this song. I have played it back-to-back many times.
Hello world, hope you're listening
Forgive me if I'm young
Or speaking out of turn
It just reminds me of someone lying in bed at night, trying to think clearly and understanding that they may be naive, but continuing on anyway. But when he says, "I think that they may be the better half of me," you know it's the love he's talking about is real.
I get lost in all the beauty
Of everything I see
The world ain't half as bad
As they paint it to be
I love that line... it's so dreamy and true. With all the war and hate that's going on in the world, we sometimes don't realize the beauty around us, but love makes us notice the good things.
I couldn't agree more with a lot of the comments people have made, but I do have a different interpretation of the chorus. I I understand how this was probably supposed to be about a person returning from war, but to me, "Come home" means something entirely different. I always thought "Come home" was like a request for her surrender, if that makes any sense. "Home" is him- she is his better half and he is hers- and by "Coming home" she is finally listening to what her heart is telling her. She belongs with him, not anyone else, and she knows this.
There's so much in this world that doesn't matter. What matters are human beings with pumping hearts and souls and our ability to love.
"Right now there's a war between the vanities, but all I see is you and me. And the fight for you is all I've ever known."
The world is cluttered with people fighting over things that don't matter. All I see are people stripped of these materials. I see what we have that other creatures and objects don't. This song apologizes for the innocence that allows the person to see this.
This song can mean different things to different people and I think that's tremendous.
For god's sake, can we just love each other? Let's fight for each other instead of land or materials or money. That stuff is nothing.
All I see is you and me.
then I thought maybe there's another meaning about wanting to be a better person,
cause one has fallen apart or got lost.
"There's someone I've been missing
I think that they could be
The better half of me"
So I just feel it that way.
And now I know the ultimate meaning dedicating to those at war, what a song! No wonder there's such a complicated sadness in the song. The song has three-layer meaning to me now.
Definitely will love it till the end.
I can't help loving songs about war and peace with beautiful melodies.
