I think I'm inclined to get this meaning because I was going through a similar situation at one point and this was the song i listened to everyday when i was broken hearted.
Even though you give all your heart and your best to someone you truly love or care for, the person still breaks your heart. This pain is incredible and that person is not the first one to put you through that pain. You have experienced that very pain several times to the point where you are actually scared to love and make yourself fragile again.
So far you have been so absorbed in finding love that you forget love isn't the only reason to live life.
But personally, it means something completley different.
To me it shows someone else letting go, not into a relationship. But from one. Into independence.
