I get up in the evening
And I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there, baby
I could use just a little help
You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Message keeps getting clearer
Radio's on
And I'm moving around my place
Check my look in the mirror
Want to change my hair
My clothes, my face
I ain't getting nowhere
Sleeping in a dump like this
Something happening somewhere
Something happening somewhere
Something happening somewhere
Something happening somewhere
You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire
Sitting around crying over a broken heart
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire
Worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
And I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there, baby
I could use just a little help
You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Message keeps getting clearer
Radio's on
And I'm moving around my place
Check my look in the mirror
Want to change my hair
My clothes, my face
I ain't getting nowhere
Sleeping in a dump like this
Something happening somewhere
Something happening somewhere
Something happening somewhere
Something happening somewhere
You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire
Sitting around crying over a broken heart
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire
Worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun is for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

I've had two experiences like this of late - T&S, and also, The Gaslight Anthem, and it turns out both are self-professed massive Bruce Springsteen fans. TGA is more obviously influenced by Bruce, but finding out T&S were is just so exciting. :)
and I didn't realize the Bruce Springsteen sang it first,
but all I know is that when I just heard this song,
it really inspired me to just keep going on an living,
I may totally be off about the lyrics
but I think that it really just sounds like
someone who is really down and hating thier life
and then realizing that they need to change there life
or else it is just going to go down the drain
and then the other part is another person saying that
your life is valuable and you cannot start making your
life valuable if you are just sitting and wasting your life
away like it is nothing.
I dunno. i just found this song very powerful.
Also your independance gets the better of you , until people arnt quite sure wether you want help , or to just be left alone.
The lyrics "dancing in the dark" may be a euphamism , but it still means a lot to me because sometimes i stay up all night just listening to music ( a lot of tegan and sara) and dancing in the dark depths of my bedroom : its fun because noone can see you.
They grew listening to them, their stepdad is a huge Springsteen fan. They credit him for being an influence.
plus the lyrics they changed fit perfectly with the song.
i love this cover of dancing in the dark, because the clarity in sara's voice really makes you listen to the lyrics, and sort of rediscover the song.
