If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
We're at a revolution
And we're baying for your blood
We're laying down the law
And your name's mud
You'd like to be a member of the human race
You want to be a good boy
But you couldn't stand the taste
Blame Simon
'cause he said
You've got two lives down
And one life left
Blame Simon
Because he said
You could think better with a hole in your head
You could think better with a hole in your head
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
Catch a revolution
Now your waging war again
Marching on the spot when you should have made amends
Cause you say you fight for us
Cross your heart and hope to die
You're the bully in the playground and we'll hang you out to dry
Blame Simon
Because he said
You've got two lives down
And one life left
Blame Simon
'cause he said
You could think better with a hole in your head
You could think better with a hole in your head
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
Line them up against a wall and shoot them all
Oh oh oh
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
Play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
Play cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
There's nothing you or I can do
Line them up against a wall I'll get a gun and shoot them all

Anyone else think of Lord of the Flies when they hear "blame Simon"?
'Marching on the spot when you should have made amends'- You should be trying to leave your life of crime.
'You'd like to be a member of the human race
You want to be a good boy
But you couldn't stand the taste'- You tried getting out of your life of crime, but the crime tempted you back in.
'If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers'- This is a reference to the good and evil mentioned in Goodbye Mr A. You are either a cop or a robber.
'Cause you say you fight for us
Cross your heart and hope to die'- You usually are loyal to fellow ciminals and wouldn't rat them out.
'Blame Simon
Because he said
You've got two lives down
And one life left'- This is sarcasm, as you only have one life and you have wasted it on crime.
That's my take on it, anyway.
OBV!
We want a revolution
And we're baying for your blood
We're laying down the law
And your name's mud
You'd like to be a member of the human race
You want to be a good boy
But you couldn't stand the taste
These two relate to both the revolution and civil war. "We want a revolution and we're baying for your blood" is the desire to be separate from britain. "We're laying down the law", relates america's first set of laws, the articles of confederation which did not last and eventually fell through. With "And your name's mud", Dr. Samuel Mud sympathized John Wilkes Booth who assassinated president Lincoln.
Blame Simon
Because he said
You've got two lives down
And one life left
Blame Simon
Because he said
You could think better with a hole in your head
You could think better with a hole in your head
The simon part i have no clue of which but possibly another person. "You've got two lives down and one life left", refers to the the two failed attempts at the creation and stability of america as several founding fathers felt the need to ask for assistance from britain again. "You could think better with a hole in your head" again refering to the assination of Lincoln.
Catch a revolution
Now your waging war again
Marching on the spot when you should have made amends
Cause you say you fight for us
Cross your heart and hope to die
You're the bully in the playground and we'll hang you out to dry
This whole verse going from everyone getting their desired revolution to the south waging war and the marching of troops to war instead of agreeing to the terms set in the new constitution. "Fight for us, cross your heart and hope to die" refering to the new pledge of allegiance and finally to "we'll hang you out to try" for hanging confederates convicted in battlefield.
I first got this aspect when watching the music video to this song with the wounded british soldiers seeing in the zoom in the american capital and statue of liberty.
anyways, I think someone should actually discuss the meaning of this song. does anyone have any ideas? I don't know if they're trying to make a metaphor with this, but I can't figure it out just yet. help? :)
You need to educate yourself before you make such wild accusations. I can admit that the first thing I thought about when I heard the opening is Lovecats; however, if anyone bothered listening on the two songs they'd notice it's much more the feel, than an actual rip-off. (the only thing remotely rip-off is the short bit equal to E|--0-3-5, which I'd be surprised if no one had used before The Cure)
Some people also need to understand that finding something that's not borrowed from some other influence is extremely hard.
Still, I can't hate it, it's just too much fun.
it's so sad! are there NO original musicians left? it's bad enough when the hip-hop 'artists' do it.
If the cure's new album wouldn't keep getting postponed, and if they didn't get permission, i'd honestly enourage them to sue. Maybe after the new record drops.
people need to know the real genious behind this song.
"The Lovecats by the Cure"
I'm sure I'm not the only one
But it's quite a fun song, I like it
Oh and the album in general is fab!
