Lyrics for Vexed as interpreted by sheslikeohsoemo

Vexed Lyrics
Pay your respects to a greater intellect
You're just a pawn, does this confession turn you on?
I know your kind; you'd do me from behind
And when everybody stares, their eyes will bare the sharpest glare

Everybody knows beneath your clothes
Staring at your toes is just a pose
Everybody good knows how hard you blow
Everybody knows

You did me wrong, I grinned and played along
Those days are gone, does this confession turn you on?

I'd see you stoned
Lawnchair your gilded throne
You cut your tiny ties and now you're dangling by a line

Everybody knows beneath your clothes
Staring at your toes is just a pose
Everybody good knows how hard you blow
Everybody knows

You think you're Jesus christ
You think you're jesus christ
You think you're jesus christ
You think you're jesus christ

You're not my jesus christ
You're not my jesus christ
You're not my jesus christ
You're not my jesus christ

I kind of feel like this song is about a really conceited whore.
"You're not my Jesus Christ" - one of the best lines ever.

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite song off In Defense of the Genre. It really reminds me of pre-is a real boy say anything.. which is really cool, since theres songs like this on IDotG, along with wayy newer-sounding ones like Baby Girl, I'm A Blur.... yeah im liking the new album a lottt actually.

I thought this was a song about the girl who "saved" him from his mental illness. She reminded him of that constantly and acted as if she was his savior, thus the Jesus reference.

Max is jewish, and during college, he said that he stopped believing in God when the drugs started getting heavier.

Is he still jewish, or perhaps a borderline christian, or still atheist and/or agnostic...?

great song.

Yep. The first time I read the lyrics to this song I thought of Max having a sexual experience with a Priest or Pastor, etc. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't follow the goings-on of the Jewish religion, so I don't know if Reconciliation is a part of it. But lines like "does this confession turn you on?" and "you think you're Jesus Christ", plus other seemingly sexual lyrics tell me that he's talking about some sort of Catholic Priest/young boy relationship. I really don't know what that has to do with the story line, so I'm not very confident that my thoughts are correct.

His references to Jesus Christ on this album continue to confuse me about his religious standings. I do believe that he's border-line Christian...but from what i understand of the the Jewish religion is that they dont recognize Jesus as the Son of God; but if that's so, why does he bring up Jesus in so many songs?

I read somewhere (it could have been a joke or a rumor, as it didn't look like the most trustworthy site) that this song is about George W Bush. Personally, I agree with the priest molestation idea, but max is jewish, and this seems more like a catholic based song.
One thing I'm pretty sure of is that it's not addressed to a girl:
"...You'd do me from behind..."
"...You're not my jesus christ..."

why would max write a song about priest molestation? he was jewish, so i don't think the happenings of the catholic church would touch him like that. plus if you look at the songs around it, it'd be pretty random of him to throw in a song like that. i definitely agree with sceneking. it's about the girl who thought she saved him. plain and simple.

I love this song, it's seriously one of my favorites on In Defense of the Genre. I think this song has a few meanings, it's really just about how you interpret it. I though a bit diferently then what everyone else did though.

I figured this song was about a slutty girl who treated Max like crap because he was jewish. Being a christian, I know how hard it can be to be honest about your religion because people mistreat you and steryotype you. I'd say it's worse for jews then christians though, because of all stupid racist/religious jokes people make up. Here's a line for line interpretation:

Pay your respects to a greater intellect
[kind of self explanatory, pay respect to god even if you don't believe in him]
You're just a pawn, does this confession turn you on?
[he's mocking her, he knows she thinks he's stupid since he's jewish, but he also knows that she's a slut]
I know your kind; you'd do me from behind
[well, I'm pretty sure he's not talking about anal rape lol. I think he's saying that he knows girls like her who wants to sleep with him before they even know eachother, I think that's what he means by from behind]
And when everybody stares, their eyes will bare the sharpest glare
[Not so sure about this line]

Everybody knows beneath your clothes
Staring at your toes is just a pose
[She's acting innocent, but really she's just a slut]
Everybody good knows how hard you blow
Everybody knows
[haha I love this line, self explanatory]

You did me wrong, I grinned and played along
[She treated him wrong but he just pretended like it didn't bother him]
Those days are gone, does this confession turn you on?
[He's saying he won't take it anymore and once again mocking her]

I'd see you stoned
Lawnchair your gilded throne
You cut your tiny ties and now you're dangling by a line
[Hmm, not so sure but it's obviously she's not doing as well as he is]

Everybody knows beneath your clothes
Staring at your toes is just a pose
Everybody good knows how hard you blow
Everybody knows

You think you're Jesus christ
You think you're jesus christ
You think you're jesus christ
You think you're jesus christ

You're not my jesus christ
You're not my jesus christ
You're not my jesus christ
You're not my jesus christ

[Love this part of the song, self explanatory]

But the the priest molestation and the other girl theory both work too. Either way, great song. I may be wrong but I think Max is probably Jewish or maybe Christian.

Two ideas

It's j about the really religious Christians trying to convert people of other religions
"I know your kind."

And I agree with other people about the slut who goes to church and acts innocent.
"Everybody knows beneath your clothes
Starring at your toes is just a pose"

I think this song is about a girl. like some people have said. i don't aggree with the priest thing because i think some of the lines that apply to the priest would be to obvious. like 'you'd do me from behind' and all the confession stuff. and the jesus christ part. max is too clever to have it obviously relate to a priest and mean it that way.

I think it's about a girl he dated who was basically a whore but tried to act innocent infront of everyone. but she's really not fooling anyone. She thinks she is really great also, and he's just telling her everything he thinks about her in this song.

and for the line 'their eyes will bare the sharpest glare' i think he might mean that when everybody is looking at her, everything is unclear? i'm not really sure.. but it's hard to see something if there is a glare on it. so that's my guess.

Why does everyone focus on Max's religion? This song is obviously about a concieted girl, probably promiscuous, who "thinks she's Jesus Christ". That's just a way of saying she thinks she's amazing, the savior of the world, all the things associated with Jesus. This song doesn't (to me) have anything to do with religion and everything to do with someone who stabbed him in the back or let him down.
