Oh Mr. pit
Oh Mr. pit
Mr. Pitiful
Who let you down?
Who let you down?
Who let you down?

You still don't believe
You don't believe
You don't believe
That greed's for a show
Your soap box unfolds

But, please come down from that cloud
You see at all I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong
Just wanna know how you've been
Don't make me feel bad that we're still friends
Started it all over in my bed

I hope that you see through your picket
I hope that you see through your big yard and white picket fence
To make amends, to still be friends, to still be my friend

So where did you go?
Where did you go?
Where did you go?
While I was out
While I was out
While I was out

Well I don't believe
I don't believe
I don't believe
Everything was seen
And if you don't like the movie then quit at me

But, please come down from that cloud
You see at all I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong
Just wanna know how you've been
Don't make me feel bad that we're still friends
Started it all over in my bed

I hope that you see through your picket
I hope that you see through your big yard and white picket fence
To make amends, still be friends, still be friends, to still be my friend, still be my friend, still be my friend

General Comment:i think meanings of songs are usually different for everyone. its just how they relate to you, i guess.

but for me. when i see this song i can relate in the sense that he feels pitiful cause this person messed up in the past. really bad. and he still wants to be friends! just wants to see how they are. but know its retarded because they hurt him/her so much in the past.

General Comment:Alright, I've got an opinion that's completely different, but actually makes sense, so bear with me. It's not just about a yuppie, it's a subtle mockery of celebrities who resent their fame. First, look at the opening lines - Oh Mr. Pit could just as easily be Mr. Pitt, an actor who along with Angelina has somewhat of a love-hate relationship with paparazzi. And Matt's just saying, why are you feeling so bad? Your life seems nice. Finally, the line "If you don't like the movies, then quit acting," while easily taken as a metaphor, can be taken at face value. If you assume that he's talking about a friend who became a egotistical celebrity, and extending the message as a jab towards all fame-hating celebrities, the entire song makes a lot more sense.

    General Comment:Simply...

[(As a girls views it) switch girl and guy etc for your interpretation] means... stop acting pitiful.. she knows what you and your girl are about... he cheated for a good reason but cant justify it.

    Mr. Pitiful
    Who let you down?

    **Really it was only you....

    You still don't believe
    You don't believe
    And your grievances show
    When your soapbox unfolds

****you try to act like your upset

But please come down from that cloud you're sitting on
I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong
Just wanna know how you've been
It don't make me feel bad that we're still friends
Mulling it over in my bed

***the girl would still like to be friends but she knows he doesn't think he is wrong. and they sit there debating it... and they both know but it keeps them from being friends.

I hope that you see through your picket
I hope that you see through your big yard and white picket fence
To make amends, and still be friends, still be my friend

****She is saying obviously your fairytale isnt perfect so get over it.... they can be friends even after he is wrong... but just friends.

    So where did you go?
    Where did you go?
    Where did you go?
    While I was out
    While I was out
    While I was out

***who talked to you some sense.

    Well I don't believe
    I don't believe
    I don't believe
    Everything I see
And if you don't like the movie then quit acting

***people will make you believe what they want you to... or either she has you fooled so give it up.

But please come down from that cloud you're sitting on
I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong
Just wanna know how you've been
It don't make me feel bad that we're still friends
Mulling it over in my bed

**we can stop acting pissed and get along... he was the wrong one but he wont see it but there will never be an "us" again.

I hope that you see through your picket
I hope that you see through your big yard and white picket fence
To make amends, and still be friends, still be friends, still be my friend, still be my friend, still be my friend

***lets be friends after your mistake.

General Comment:wow this is a great song! and i bet it can have lots of meanings!
but to me, i can relate to it. because of a breakup i had.
and for some odd reason, this fit my situation.
i didn't care if we were going to be together or not..
but i just wanted to know how things were going..
and over time, i just wanted him to know that im not the bad person... im just here like i've always been. his fried.

he is such a versatile singer its amazing... I LOVE HIM

I think this song is self-explanitory
He just wants to be friends again, he doesn't want apologies or anything... he just wants to "know how you've been"

    General Comment:Hello MaggieMayIsit.....

Actually i have another spin on the song that Matt told us in Brisbane the other night (PS. Will & Dash (+ Charlie) were great to!)

Matt said he went looking at Pianos and he saw one that was really old and crappy and when he tried to play it, it sounded "pitiful". He felt sorry for it cause know one would buy it - so he bought it for $50 (i think). He then wrote this song on it.

Anyhoo, love this song too, its different to his other material.

So I went to see Matt play last night,
and he said it's about this black cat he tries to catch and befriend.. That's what the song's about..
    So cute!!!!!!

General Comment:For me, this song is about forgiveness between friends.

    How I relate to it:
Recently (well, more like four months), one of my friends and I just stopped talking. And though we were both in the wrong, both of us are too proud to reconcile. So today, I tried saying that it doesn't matter who was at fault first and that the friendship is all that matters. But most of all, I wanted to say that he should try to finally "climb over the bridge" because I would be waiting on the other side.
