Goodbye Young Tutor, You've Now Outgrown... Lyrics
Black days
You've changed
Oh, have you left me here to rot
I kid you not
I miss you girl
You're all that makes me true

You're breath
You're scent
Follows drifting on the vapor
I can't escape her
She was my love
Now she's pushing me away

The night that we met
At the back of the show
My favourite band
But you wouldn't know
From looking at me
All wrapped up in you
But where can you be now?
And what can I do, for you?

Just say Maxim
I love you
I need you
And no one will do but you

Maxim
I love you
I miss you
And no one will do but you
No one will do but you (x4)

Black days (x4)

to those of you saying he's being sarcastic...well, let's just say this is as open and honest as a song can possibly be, because max is really opening himself up here, and showing just how vulnerable he is. "What can I do for you? Just say, Maxim, I love you, I need you, and no one will do but you." everyone needs to hear that sometimes, and the way max has put into words is beautiful.

Max does have a soul.

"Its really a love story record. Its about how love really can lift you up and destroy you and all those things. I think its an important think people should always sing about. Love is really whats gonna save the world if anything will and redeem everyone, and therefore its always something worth singing about."

I love this song. I think a lot of people can really relate to it, because it really embodies the desperation one feels when your heart is broken. All you want is for that one person to come back, and tell you that you are all they want. Bad breakups always feel like a bad joke, and you are waiting for the "just kidding".

This CD came out right after I got out of a longterm relationship, and it was really comforting to me to know I wasn't the only one feeling they way I was.

I especially love the way Max sounds as if he's on the verge of tears the entire song.

It's definitely Maxim. That's his name... Maxim Adam Bemis.

It's definitely "Maxim" or "Max, um" not, "Max, oh" If you listen very carefully, you can hear the distinct "m" at the end of the word.

I definitely agree with skye bird about the meaning, though.

it isnt supposed to be "maxim", its supposed to be max, oh

thats why these lyrics dont make sense, and the song is pretty self explanatary, he wants his girl back

I think it's about the end of a relationship, when they're drifting and he's afraid of losing her. Yes, Max is usually very sarcastic and condencending when it comes to love in general, but to me, this is him saying "Please". He wants to save them, and he wants to hear her say he matters to her. The songs that have been about a girl in this album seem to cover a relationship, and it's been wild, and he wants to hold on to it, I suppose.

i love this song. he presents himself so vulnerably. it's to-the-point and honest and simple. "maxim, i love you, i need you, and no one will do but you..." FUCKING perfect. sometimes that's all there is to say.

First of all, his name IS Maxim. He just calls himself and others call him Max. It's simpler or wtvs. Second, I believe this song is 100% from the heart. A lot of his songs are serious love songs, but they're mostly the older stuff.

he writes plenty of cheesy songs, hardpack. look back at all the old stuff, it's pretty much all cheesy stuff. homeboy wrote a song called "sappy", for christ's sake.

this is a great song, though. like everyone's been saying, pretty straight forward. i really dig the lines about when they met at his favorite band's show, but he wasn't paying attention to the show, just to her. that's just great, i really like that for some reason.

Max flat out lays all his feelings for his ex out on the table. He loves her, he'll never be happy without her, etc. He feels unusually vulnerable doing this and toward the end of the song he is almost begging her to take him back this song serves as an apology and proposal for them to start going out again.

What onewishfull said. Maxim is his nickname; I've heard people call him that before. And I don't think Max would have a problem being called Maxim if he'll call the object of his desires "Baby Girl".

Then again, that could just be the J Records showing through.............. *cough*

First of all, Max writes a lot of songs about relationships. His voice breaks on this one and "I Want to Know Your Plans" off of the previous album and I assume it's because these two songs are the more serious, romantic ones. Even Max Bemis has fallen in love at least once.

Furthermore, I think these lyrics are slightly off. These are the correct ones:

Black days
You've changed
Oh, have you left me here to rot
I kid you not
I miss you girl
You're all that makes me true

Your breath,
Your scent,
Follows drifting on the vapor
I can't escape her
She was my love
Now she's pushing me away

The night that we met
At the back of the show
My favourite band
But you wouldn't know
From looking at me
All wrapped up in you
But where can you be now?
And what can I do, for you?

Just say Max...um...
I love you
I need you
And no one will do but you

Max...um...
I love you
I miss you
And no one will do but you
No one will do but you (x4)

in response to the comment above me...
he DOES usually write so sarcastically, but that doesnt mean what he writes isnt real to him and that hes just making fun of himself even for feeling the things hes made fun of before.
as for his voice here, max said in an interview "I think I’ve learned how to control my voice in a way that I’m not constantly growling like on the last record. This may scare some people but I’m less afraid of being “emotional” on this record."
i def dont think this song is a joke, i mean this girl is the focus of like at least 1/3 of these twenty something songs. he said also that he's telling an 'actual love story.' and her calling him maxim just shows how intimate it was. this is the girl he gives himself to in 'baby girl, im a blur.' its just crazy the way he wants her.
thats my opinion, but maybe im that fan girl being tricked by a cheesy song? haha who knows

with that being said, i like the heart behind this song but its just not say anything to me. its more like an interlude.

I think this is a total joke song. He doesn't sing any songs in this forced, breathy manner. Max always writes so sarcastically about love, so it would be uncharacteristic for him to flip all of a sudden and write such a cheesy song. I would also doubt that he'd want any girl to call him "Maxim."

I wonder if Maxim's just a reference to a cheesy magazine that I'm sure he loves and hates himself for loving, and to the type of girl fan who he could hook up and trick with such a cheesy, sarcastic song.

after admitting things were finally over between him and the girl in "we killed it", max still wants her back. the simplest song on the album, pretty much. beautiful!

say anything needs more songs like this

yeah. heartbreak. she's left him (or is drifting away, "now she's pushing me away") and he's lost without her, and all he wants is for her to come back and tell him she loves him. :(

I say it is pretty self explanatory. I could be wrong though. Great song off a great album.
