Lyrics for died a jew as interpreted by inthissilentvoid

died a jew Lyrics
you say the shade of my face
for my father's sharecrops
my people were slaves, before yours invented hip hop
apologize, but i'm in on the joke
another brother to scoff at the dancing patterns of white folk

i think i'm fine the way i am
(and yes I chase my milk, with ham)
i think i'm fine the way i am

jesus died a jew
pupils painted blue
yeah, haters know it's true
jesus died a jew

save you the breath in my nose
for my daddy's ear locks
shunned before you pieced it & sold it
and called it punk rock
apologize for the murder of god
like judas the traitor
we are both favored and deeply flawed

i think i'm fine the way i am
(although we broke our promised land)
i think i'm fine the way i am

jesus died a jew
pupils painted blue
yeah, haters know it's true
jesus died a jew

so i'll,let it burn away
let it burn away
let it burn away
let it burn away (alright)

I'm not going to call you a dumb ass cause I'm not like that, what I will say is that both Jews and Africans were enslaved, but there wasn't a mass Holocaust on any African Americans, also Africa doesn't have a huge target on its back from a dangerous and powerful country that thinks it doesn't have a right to exist (like poor Israel). Plenty of people have excuses to complain: American Indians were forced out of their homes and killed by the thousands since before and after slavery was in the country, Muslims or Middle Easterners are all assumed to be terrorists and murderers, hell even white Irish people were all but shunned for half a century because they were thought to be unclean and not worthy to have jobs. Basically the point I'm making is shits in the past stop harping on it, if you can't get past it then you're the one with the problem. I'm Catholic and love this song because I think it's funny and clever and very true and it reminds me of my Jewish friends who are proud they're Jewish, and I'm proud I'm Catholic, who cares?

This is one song that is majorly catchy, but it could easily have been a 4 minute-long rocker. There needs to at least be a second verse before the chorus comes in.

And I really like the "I think I'm fine the way I am" -- it's like the lyrics to Admit It (proud of my life... etc)

Say Anything is definitely not a racist band. Just listen to Yellow Cat/Red Cat for further proof.
I can totally relate to this song because I'm Jewish (though I don't practice the religion) and I've had to put up with so many stupid jokes about it. I think what he's trying to say is NOT that he's better than others, but that he's proud of who he is and you can try to make fun of him but it really doesn't matter because he's proud to be Jewish.
Rather than being prejudiced he's pointing out how dumb it is to be that way.

erinas5 you're a dumbass. he wasn't trying to downplay racism against black people. he's just saying that his people are discrimnated against as well.

and dude, i think these days, more black people are prejudice against white people then vice versa.

and music has existed for thousands of years. it's human nature. you can't give all the credit for the progression of music to black people. that's just fucking ridiculous.

Its obvious what this songs about.
Max is basically calling out the group of african americans who feel the need to complain that they should be paid for how their ancestors were in-slaved. He also calls them out for making fun of whites for how they can dance.
He also says white christian america cant think they're all perfect when in fact one of their founding fathers (judas) was the first step in the murder of Jesus.

Then in the chorus he agrees that he's not perfect either, and he also calls out christians for portraying jesus as "white america"

In the second verse he calls out white america for first making fun of how Jews look and then they turn around and make the "jewish look" popular and calling it punk rock.

i personally think that max was whining for no reason. african americans and jewish people have been through the same thing, and african americans are still going through harsh racism. i really like this band and i think its sad that they even have a grudge against african americans. if it wasnt or them there wouldnt even be rock, hip-hop, jazz, or R & B. i think he needs to shut up, reevaluate his life and come up w/ a better song.

"can anyone explain "chase our milk with ham" and "save you the breath in my nose for my daddy's ear locks"?"

jewish people dont eat ham, and when they eat meat they dont have dairy for a few hours after...(also if u drink milk you shouldnt have meat in the next bite)

the earlocks are probably a refernce to 'payos' which are sort of like sideburns (but mostly behind the ear)

i think the song is saying that even though people focus on black discrimination, jews are also discrimianted,and just like the blacks were slaves, jews were also (in egypt)..and to christians jesus was the ultimate savior,but many forget when he died he was jewish not christian since he didnt actually start that (paul and all those men did)

I love this song, the symbols and the metaphors are just amazing. my favorite line has got to be "save you the breath in my nose
for my daddy's ear locks"
personally I take it as a reminder to the world of what our past is. I'm a christian, but in no respects do I dismiss Judisim. I know that my religion is based off of judisim and all those pictures where Christ is depicted as white with blue eyes makes me laugh. He was a jew, he looked like a jew. Simple as that. Personally what I get from Max's statment is that yes we're all different, but we all came from somewhere. We need to remember our roots even if we do 'chase our milk with ham'

-my people were slaves, before yours invented hip hop
-another brother to scoff at the dancing patterns of white folk

although this song is obvious to him being proud of being jewish, i think it has deep racial ties. im not saying Max is prejiduced, but he really focused on black people by saying "brother" and "before yours invented hip hop"

A few of you touched on good points, but to be honest, as a Jew in the southern region of our country, this song has pretty personal meaning to me, because you know, I may not be the most devout Jewish person (I chase my milk with Ham, a reference to not keeping Kosher), and although the Jews have not been perfect in their existence(we broke our promised land), the religion that dominates this country, and has been responsible for the majority of the anti-semitic actions over time, was founded and based upon Judaism and that will never change. Cheers Max Bemis!

Personally, I think (Going more along the lines of the album's concept) that this song is meant to signify the pointless arguments you get into with people you really care about, but no how to talk to all that well. Like the fights you get into with your lover when you both think you're right, but aren't about to concede to the other person's point.
