Shakin' like the Devil when she lets me go
Got a new place and how it's so much better.
Falling over myself, the televisions on,
I turn it off and smile.
Oh, Jennifer, you know I always tried.
Before you say goodbye

Leave the bourbon on the shelf.
And I'll drink it by myself.
And I love you endlessly,
Darling don't you see I'm not satisfied
Until I hold you tight.
Give me one more chance tonight
And I swear I'll make it right.
But you ain't got time for this
And that wreckin' bell is ringin'
And I'm not satisfied
Until I hold you

Jennifer, tell me where I stand
And who's that other boy holdin' your hand?
Oh, Jennifer, you know I've always tried.
Before you say goodbye

Leave the bourbon on the shelf.
And I'll drink it by myself.
And I never liked your hair or those people that you lie with
And I'm not satisfied
Until I hold you tight
And I love you endlessly,
Darling don't you see I can't be satisfied
Until I hold you tight.

Leave the bourbon on the shelf.
And I'll drink it by myself.
And I love you endlessly,
Darling don't you see
I'm not satisfied.

General Comment:Great way to tie the three together! It's a slow song, good opener to the faster-paced ones. Oh, and to something squirrelchild asked about JWAFOM, the line "and then you whisper in my ear, I know what you're doing here," I always took that as one of the cops leaning in to whisper something in the narrator's ear, a threat or something, and the narrator thinking to himself that he knows that the cop is trying to use fear or whatever to get him to talk. As in, he's saying that he knows what the cop is trying to do, not that the cop whispered "I know what you're doing" in his ear.

General Comment:The trilogy sounds so awesome, it's like this really twisted love story gone horribly wrong. I know so many people have given they're meanings and mines exactly the same but with some slight differences.

So basically this guy and Jenny were in a relationship. I can kind of see things from the guys point of view, he loved Jenny way to much -- and was a little bit insane. And I think to Jenny, this was just a side thing, it wouldn't ever amount to anything. Maybe she was already in a relationship. So anyway, then they break up. And he can't believe it's over, not yet, not ever. I kind of agree with what someone said about them being friends for a while, maybe he loved her for a while and was totally ecstatic when she finally gave him the chance. And then they broke up and all he wants to do is patch it up, be together again. So they agree to meet, because maybe Jenny loves him to but not in the same way. And with that we lead into Midnight Show...

... So they agree to go out, and he starts to think about this other guy, the one he saw in LTBOTS. That the Jenny in the car with him, wasn't only his Jenny and him -- being crazy obsessed -- couldn't handle that. He thought they were perfect together and Jenny ruined it by seeing other guys. Maybe where ever they are, he get's a little to agressive, all she wants to do is leave but maybe in some kind of jealous rage, or whatever he tries to keep her. I think he intentionally killed her, like if I can't have you, no one can. And after he strangled her, watched her die, he decides to dispose of her into the sea or whatever...

....I think in JWAFOM Jenny's body had already washed up on the shore. He's trying to convince the police that they were friends, they had had a relationship but broke up but were still friends. To me he seems pretty calm, like the major hysterics just kicked in and he's that creepy kind of crazy, he's unbelievably calm and is playing the innocent act like he really was innocent. Because he has that normal reaction, that "Oh come on, I didn't do anything". The police have no solid evidence on him. I know my rights, I've been here all day and it's time. So they can't keep him any longer. In the end I think he get's away with it, I truly do.

I saw JWAFOM live yesterday.... the crowd when insane, beyond awesome... awesome trilogy, awesome songs

My Interpretation:I adore this song. It's the perfect beginning to The Murder Trilogy. Now, I'd like to share my interpretation on the trilogy and see if anyone agrees with me.
    1) Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf
    - It's full of imagery. I can completely see the story in my head and when a band can do that, they have hit the fantastic mark in my book. This is pretty much about the nasty break up that he and Jenny has. He's completely smashed. "Fallin' over myself" and he's obviously gone a little crazy "The television’s on, I turn it off and smile." and he's trying to get her to stay and she just wont. Now he asks her to leave the bourbon on the shelf so he can drink away his agony. When people get mad they become blatantly honest and they just say how they feel so they can tear the other person down (and it doesn't help that he's tanked either.) So he starts spewing insults "And I never liked your hair or those people that you lie with" etc. By the end of the song he is just drained. He's filled with anger, yet he still loves her "endlessly"...
    2) Midnight Show
So I'm not totally sure how he got her in the car with him after they broke up like that...maybe they "reconciled"? But here is what I get from this song.
    - He has somehow convinced her that they are going somewhere alone to talk or mess around. It's underneath the stars and the ocean is there (which makes it seem all romantic).I believe the first "drive faster boy" is Jennifer speaking. Then while he's driving he's thinking of all the people who have tried to help him through everything (maybe the break up or the apparent drinking problem or some other life issue) He's obviously distracted because he finds her attractive 'You've got a real short skirt I want to look up'. Then all the "Drive faster boy" lyrics sound more like his thoughts-'I just want to get this over with, drive faster!' Then you hit 'We were just in time. Let me take a little more off your mind' this is possibly when he decides that it's time to kill her but he kisses her first (that would be very murder-esque ha) then he starts to have second thoughts on going through with it 'We were just a good thing. We were such a good thing'. He tries to ask her to stay again 'But promise me you'll stay, Fix these things I've hurt' she refuses. Then he pushes those second thoughts back 'make it go away!' He finally kills her (by choking I suppose) 'I took my baby's breath beneath the chandelier of stars in atmosphere' and then throws her into the raging ocean. 'And watch her disappear into the midnight show'. Then in the last verse you can tell that he is going back over what he has just done and is feeling wretched, this explains the "Oh no" at the end. Then you hear him sing in agony "She said she loved me!" He's gone crazy, the music at the end sounds straight out of a horror movie, where the killer is standing there obove where he threw the body into the ocean.
    3) Jenny was a friend of mine
-Fabulous. You hear the chopper at the beginning and the police sirens...I can almost picture the search light on the helicopter finding the body in the ocean. The police are interrogating him, asking him where they last saw her, what happened. He claims that they took a walk and she seemed weird, they had been fighting (and it was raining...perfect horror movie visual imagery! he) She told him that she loved him but she needed to go somewhere (he's trying to convince the police that she left, therefore he has no idea where she went or how she died). Then he try’s to play on their sympathy and says 'she couldn't scream while I held her close (because people yell when they fight) I swore I'd never let her go'(trying to convince them he adored her) Then he tells them that he would never kill her because he loved her, they were friends, why would he ever do something to harm her? Then he wants to leave the office: He claims he knows his rights and that he's been there all day. He thinks it's time for him to leave blah blah. And then they ask him (again) if he killed her. 'I just can't take this! I swore I told you the truth!'

Woooow. Sorry for how long that was...I understand if you didn't read the whole thing. And if you did, thank you for taking the time!

    General Comment:Wow i mean wow
    These songs are genius
I used the songs for inspiration as a performance i did at school and everyone loved it
heres what i think of the trilogy
He and jenny have been friends forever and now they are older jenny is meeting new people especially guys
The narrator however loves jenny and doesnt know how to tell and he becomes obsessive over her and she doesnt like it and yells at him, "we had a fight on the promenade out in the rain"
she tells him she loves him but as a friend and as she leaves he grabs her in anger and kills her.
Midnight show is possibly about either how he is with other women or him just after the murder when he still has that rush of adrenaline and hes convincing himself it was a good thing. "can you keep a secret" hes possibly talking to jenny asking her not to tell obviously she cant shes dead and sorta impling hes crazy.
This song i see him in a prison cell reflecting back on everything and hes delusional and living in the past. he still thinks she'll come back and he's sort of apologizing to her and explainin why he did what he did.
but maybe he was just happy to kill her.

General Comment:okay. on the murder series, this is my take about how the entire story takes place.

jenny and the guy take a break in their relationship because of whatever reason you would like to fancy, and she uses this new freedom to go out with other guys and see how she really feels about the guy. the guy is madly, obsessivly in love ith her and doesn't handle the break well. he drinks. he stalks. he sees them holding hands, and gets the thought in his head that she doesn't want him anymore. this is unbearable for him, and so he plans to kill he (end of LTBOTS)

and so as we enter MS, they are done with their break, and he is happy to be back with her, and maybe she even realized she loves him. they drink bouben and get drunk. they driv to a place under the sky, and proceed to have sex. he is so happy, but in his drunken state, and that nagging at the back of his head that she doesn't really love him, and as they are having sex, the thought persists and he just wants it and the horrible feeling to go away. he ends up strangleing her to death , wanting the voice and the horrible ache to go away, not being ale to imagine her with another man. so, shes dead, and he is in shock at what he did, and puts her body back into the bar and drived faster and faster, hearing her voice taunting him to drive faster boy. he dumps her body into the ocean, thinking that the crashing tide can hide a guilty girl. his jealousýand feelin of betrayal pin her as the bad person in his mind, but he is still agonized at what he's done (no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no)
he screams out she said she loves me, and tells himself if she can keep this a secrte, so can I and from there we transfer into JWAFOM.
he is brought in for questioning by the police about her missing. he's been there a while, because he is who she was last with when she dissapeared. he claimed his innocense, claiming she loved him, so how could he do such a thing. he describes their sex act as the last thing he saw them doing together, and explains the murder in a romantic light (she couldn't scream while I held her close) or perhaps he just accidentally lets this slip. he wants them to believe him, so he can believe himself. eventually driving himself into hysterics (oh come on, oh come on! OH COME ON! WAAA-OHHH!!!)

thank you, this is how I imagined it all to go down.

Oh, Jennifer, you know I always try.
    Before you say goodbye

    - I think Jenny is a tv personality and he is her obsessed stalker. One of his little stalker like creepy things is that he has to turn off the tv before she says goodbye at the end of the show. Maybe it's the midnight show...

She has a boyfriend in real life and stalker thinks she's cheating on him with this guy. So tonight is the night he is going to kidnap, then rape and kill her. She can then "disappear into the midnight show" and not ruin his delusions of her character with her off screen behavior.

General Comment:What I like about this song is that he sings it slurred and almost ranting like he's drunk. Clever.
