Lyrics for Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf as interpreted by ShotgunXXWedding

Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf Lyrics
Shakin' like the Devil when she let me go
Got a new place, and how it's so much better.
Falling over myself, the televisions on,
I turn it off and smile.
Oh, Jennifer, you know I always try.
Before you say goodbye

Leave the bourbon on the shelf.
And I'll drink it by myself.
And I love you endlessly,
darlin' don't you see I'm not satisfied
until I hold you tight.
Give me one more chance tonight
and I swear I'll make it right.
But you ain't got time for this
and that wreckin' bell is ringin'
and I'm not satisfied
until I hold you

Jennifer, tell me where I stand
and who's that other boy holdin' your hand?
Oh, Jennifer, you know I've always tried.
Before you say goodbye

Leave the bourbon on the shelf.
And I'll drink it by myself.
And I never liked your hair or those people that you lie with
but I'm not satisfied
until I hold you tight
and I love you endlessly,
darling don't you see I can't be satisfied
until I hold you tight.

Leave the bourbon on the shelf.
And I'll drink it by myself.
And I love you endlessly,
darling don't you see
I'm not satisfied.

Yeah, I submitted these lyrics, but I managed not to read them at all.
I haven't heard nothing but a 30 sec clip, and that's as far as I'm going until Sawdust comes out.
I'm sure this song will completely blow my mind. :D

Although based on what I've heard, the second line is wrong. It should say something like "Got a new place, and how it's so much better," reflecting on how Jennifer's moved out.

It's an interesting song. It's great seeing how the Trilogy is introduced. It seems either one might be an alcoholic, or he needs the comfort of alcohol to ease his pain.

He discovers Jennifer (Or Jenny, as we knew her) with "that other boy holdin' your hand?". He wants another chance with her but she won't let him. This probably puts him in a terrible mood for revenge, to continue with Midnight Show.

The trilogy's complete! woo! been looking forward to this for a long time. i love the way he sings it in that youtube video, you can just hear the vengence in his voice.. :D

actually what surprises me is that the line 'she said she loved me' wasn't in there.. it's in the other two and i thought it would be a recurring theme in the murder trilogy, but whatever.

i heard about the movie too, but they cancelled it since. not sure why. :/

I saw them in Sydney last night, and interestingly when he sung "until I hold you tight." he held out his arm and made a gesture like he was choking an invisible person.

So the song is clearly about a murder, and holding her tight is definitely not meant in a romantic sorta way...

Interestingly, he made the same hand gesture in the line "she couldn't scream while I held I close" in Jenny Was a Friend of Mine.

They performed the whole murder trilogy in order. It was a pretty awesome show.

Okay.... I thought her death had something to do with water... did I miss something between LTBOTS and Midnight Show? Because it just sounds like she was choked.

By the way... these songs sound pretty f-ing sweet when they're all played back to back.

^ He chokes her and throws her in the river/ocean/lake

The line from Midnight Show is "Crashing tide can hide a guilty girl"

And live when the do Jenny he sometimes sings "She kicked and screamed while I held her throat"

Also I think people forget that most of Jenny is a lie...because he's talking to the cops, telling them that he's innocent, when he most. def. is not.

This song is amazing. You get to see a little bit of insanity before the murder... "The television's on, I turn it off and smile"
That line creeps me out!
The meaning is pretty simple though, Jenny was cheating on him...his love was more of an obsession...so he killed her.

Yeah. Okay. This song lived up to every dream I had.

I'm pretty sure we all know what this is about by now. Haha. But the lyrics and the vocals capture that screwed up obsessive love he had for Jenny.

alright so this is how i interpret what's going on...
at the beginning of the song he is just really beat up about jennifer breaking up with him so he's just drinking it away, but he thinks he still might have a chance with her "jennifer tell me where i stand", but then he realizes there's another guy and that she was cheating on him "and who's that other boy holdin' your hand", and he finally realizes that he can't get her back "i can't be satisfied", (notice the use of "i can't be" rather than "i'm not"), and this is the point where in his drunken rage he's going to kill her

Can anybody make out what he is saying at the very beginning? I mean the VERY begininning before most of the music. All I can understand is "I left it just where I put it"

I was thinking about what he says at the beginning then I read someone's post about 'she said she loved me' not being in this one.
So I thought maybe he might have said something about that in the beginning but I've listened to it loads & can't make it out at all...

I have to say this is one pretty awesome song!
I think it's approaching my favourite one of Sawdust!

I love this song by itself. I think it's amazing.

But I was actually disappointed when I put it with the rest of the trilogy. There is too much of a difference in the styles of the songs, and it sounds out of place. Either that, or I've listened to Hot Fuss one too many times.

But The Killers really seem to be maturing in their music. I liked their 80's glam thing though.

this is the song that completes the trilogy, but actually it's the first part of it

LTBOTS (the reasons of the murder)
MS (the murder itself)
JWAFOM (after the murder the police are after him)

at least that's what the killers said in an interview!

i think this song deals a lot with insanity, i mean jenny broke up with him, he's really obsessed, he wants her back, he wont let her go that easy

so as he thinks he still may have a chance, he follows her arround, and he see jenny holding hands with another guy,
so the guy goes crazy and kills jenny

when i listen to the song it makes me feel kind of relieved you know? like the guy's actually glad that he finally got rid of jenny (?) i dont know just my opinion you guys =P

i think he's a very possesive boyfriend, when he sees her with other guy he flips, and that the true motive to kill her i guess.... "im not satisfied until i hold u tight" whoa!
the narrator has got some serious issues, its interesting the way they made a trilogy with songs, like a movie, i can see poor jennifer... runnin, screamin, dying...
it rocks!!!!!! its sort of creepy and still very subtle... love it, brandon you're a genius!!

the guy in really disturbed, u can appreciate that in the 3 songs, which are amazing

One thing that I notice is that during the song, his vocals start changing as the words go by.For example:
At the beggining, his tone seems happy hes alone with his "new place".
In the middle he starts sounding like hes getting desperate and wants her back.
And in the last stanza, hes sounds dead and alone, because you can he the echoes from every word.
Then comes Midnight Show, were everythings exciting from him killing her, takin over by love
And in JWAFOM, hes sounds aggresive while talking, regretting what he did to Jenny,
freakin awesome trilogy

I love it, I have the trilogy in a play list on iTunes ^_^
What, I think:
Shes moved out and into a place with some one else, a another male friend. I don't think she is cheating on him, I think it's all in his mind but he's resigned to the fact that they'll probably won't stay together. "Oh, Jennifer, you know I always try./Before you say goodbye"
To take his mind off things he decides to drink bourbon maybe because they used to drink it together but now all he can do is drink it by himself, I think he gets blind drunk. (I think this fuels the murder, I believe that it's the only way the bourbon fits into the whole triology)
Then he decides he could possibly win her back and meets up with her on the promenade near a beach . "Give me one more chance tonight /and I swear I'll make it right." I am not sure by 'making it right' it means he plans to kill her or trying to fix their relationship.
When she tells him she doesn't wants to break up with him, he gets in a drunken rage at her and tells her things that he doesn't like about her, "And I never liked your hair or those people that you lie with" I am not sure whether "lie" is as in lying to people or sleeping about, but I suppose it could be both.
I think he kills he between the two songs, "Bourbon" is the fight and I believe "Midnight Show" his him dumping her body in the ocean, the use of the 'blanket' being to cover up her body on the backseat of his car, all the keeping secrets thing in it I think his him talking to her body and of course she is going to keep his secret cause she is dead.

I am not sure I have put everything there but I could be here hours saying everything I think, this kinda thing gets my mind running wild!!
