Hello

There goes the gal in the pretty skirt
With the golden smile that made you feel new
Like when the marching band strolls the street
You know another year?s come too soon

So you took her hand and she gave a look
That sent you to the moon
And there you spoke the words of a gentleman
Can I have this dance with you?
Can I share this dance with you?

Won't you come on home?
I built us a flying machine
And we'll go where you want
And we'll sail the seven seas
I hope all is well in Daisy's dreams

There goes the gal
Yeah, the pretty bird, on the golden mile
That made you feel real
She took with on to the stars
She don't make no big deal

And there she sits with them big old fields
Of daisies and rusty mills
And when the sun, it shines on her hair of gold
She's beautiful, she's beautiful

Won't you come on home?
I built us a flying machine
And we'll go where you want
We'll sail the seven seas
I hope all is well in Daisy's dreams
In Daisy's dreams

i think Angus is singing it to a girl who he loved very much, but they possibly broke up, and this is his atempt to get back together with her, or him wishing this girl well

The song becomes something like a description of her life and how he perceived her and her qualities. The song stands out as a tribute and it’s obvious that he’s talking about a specific person. The chorus “Won't you come on home, I built us a flying machine. And well go where you want, we'll sail the seven seas. I hope all is well, in Daisy's dreams” is longing for her to come back, but at the same time wishing her well. It is not until the last verse, where he says “She took to the stars” we realise that she’s actually passed. The lyrics in this song are clever as he addresses a tragic circumstance but in a beautiful way, creating not a sad feeling because she’s gone, but a celebration of the person she was. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.

On an interview with Triple J (while A Book Like This was feature album), Angus said that this song was about a friend of his and Julia's when they were children who died of cancer.

Judging from the lyrics, their friend was beautiful and very close to them. When she died they couldn't believe she was gone...

Do you think they're referencing Daisy Buchanan from the Great Gatsby?

It seems to be summed up in the first stanza, that this song is written from the perspective of a little boy, in whose eyes things are innocent and 'new'. The way we all wish we still saw the world, and as such, the way Angus wishes the girl to be remembered.

I misinterpreted this song until I saw the lyrics - I thought it was about a guy who was deeply in love with a girl, but she seemed to be a bit oblivious. It changes perspective from narrator to the boy in love, like when he "spoke the words of a gentelman" - he spoke to a girl he was deeply infatuated with. And he talks about how beautiful she is...

I heard the lyrics like this, until I actually knew them: "So you took her hand and she gave a look, that sent you to the moon" was actually "So you took her hand and she gave you LOVE, that sent you to the moon". When someone 'takes you to the moon', doesn't it mean they were really good in bed? So they had really awesome sex that made him like her even more.

"I built us a flying machine. And we'll go where you want, we'll sail the seven seas". I actually thought he said "It WON'T go where you want, but it'll sail the seven seas". By that I thought he meant that he would do anything for the girl he was singing to, but what he did just wasn't good enough. Even after that, he would still try by "sailing the seven seas".

Anyways, when I hadn't seen the lyrics I interpreted them that way. Now that I know the story behind it and I know the proper lyrics the song makes much more sense.

This song gives me chills when you here a little girl saying hello at the start,

knowing that it was about his friend who died of cancer when they were little leads you to imagine what she was like,

The innocence of the lyrics, 'Yeah the pretty bird, on the golden mile that made you feel real,' and 'In the pretty skirt with the Golden smile that made you feel new,' really bring out the innocence of the girl that she was the words 'new' and 'real' display the effect children have on the community, they are completely care free and new , and the words 'gold' repeated show the beauty and the gold that she shared with everyone, she clearly was someone very special

this song is beautiful in every word, and it gives me shivers, Angus and Julia are extremely talented.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
