Lyrics for Shiksa as interpreted by Shawnk00

Shiksa Lyrics
i remember it vividly, love. i’ve been walking erect since the moment we met
and I caught your eyes to my surprise (your white thighs)
hebraic neuroses ceased to be. an angel’s conversing with me
the new attractive to me is divine
and even if your friends don’t understand
no matter what i’ll always be your man
and even if you go, you know you’ll leave me feeling grand
i’ll need new contraceptives, green eyes
i found god when you left him, green eyes
let’s spend the night entwined out on the boardwalk in sickly summertime
like the yin and the yang of the afikomen
you’re the omen that all has changed that was deranged
and even if you stomp me ‘til i’m sore
no matter what i’d bleed to be your whore
and even if the cancer grows until we explode, i’m yours

i have a girlfriend now
no way, no how
how’d i get a girlfriend, now?
well from here on forth, I’m yours

and even if your whisper eats my ear
your voice shall be the only song i long to hear
and even if your fear the end, our sacrament of salmon and irish beer
will still be here

“boy, i need your love, so give it to me
boy, i need your touch, so lay it on me
boy, i need your love, i need your touch, i’m yours”

This song is about infatuation. He "caught [her] eyes to [his] surprise," and is now in disbelief that such a knockout could be attracted to him. And we all know what happens now! "I'll need new contraceptives... let's spend the night entwined.... no matter what I'd bleed to be your whore."

And who doesn't get excited about new exciting sex prospects?

Especially Max Bemis... heh.

Also, he places a few motifs for his Jewish identity in here.

"I caught your eyes to my surprise... your white thighs.
Hebraic neuroses ceased to be. An angel’s conversing with me!"

For those of you who aren't familiar with Mr. Bemis... he's a little neurotic. And he's Jewish. So, he's noting how in this remarkable situation, his normal character traits--neurotiscism and Jewishness (more of a generalization of his identity than a statement about Judaism)--somehow "cease to be."

Toward the end, he says "our sacrament of salmon and Irish beer will still be here."

The salmon represents his half (Jewish... They like fish, right?), and the Irish beer represents hers. She must be irish! I'll bet she's cute.

Is it just me or is he saying "even if you suck me until i'm sore"? I wouldn't put it past them because almost all their songs have a sexual reference in them. But the song is pretty self explainitory. I really like it. Can't wait until the new album.

if she's irish, she must be cute.

over all great song, max always has such an extraordinary way with twisting everyday song topics into such intricately charming personal tales.

Haha, I thought that it was "suck me until I'm sore", too, but every lyrics site I've been on says otherwise. I almost wish it was, because it's more fun to sing that way. It's a little more straightforward than the last album, but I still love it.

I know what a shiksa and afikomen are, and I understand he's Jewish, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the song really means/ if it has a deeper meaning?

shiksa = A non-Jewish girl.

That doesn't put the song in a "totally different perspective", I have no idea what you're on about Bambiii. The only line that even refers to the concept is "i found god when you left him"...wow... this song means so much more now. wtf?

I think the song's about Max falling for a girl who isn't Jewish and everyone she knows doesn't approve of him:

"And even if your friends don’t understand
No matter what i’ll always be your man
And even if you go, you know you’ll leave me feeling grand."

But he's trying to explain to her that even though she's not Jewish he still wants to be with her because she turned everything bad in his life good.

Except with a lot of sexual references. (:

This song is a perfect follow-up of The Church Channel. Obviously things worked out between he and Hayley Williams' "character" and now they're together. Cute.

I always sing this song now b/c of my girlfriend. I have liked her so much for a year and now that she likes me a lot and we go out, it's just so unreal. He ex-boyfriend can't believe it, and I hate him! Hence the line, "I felt God when you left him!"

i think this song is about an infatuation he has with a girl that isn't Jewish (hence, "shiksa"), and he feels liberated by that infatuation (hence the line "hebraic neuroses ceased to be") because he can't believe he caught her attention as well as the element of suspense that comes with the lack of approval he feels from her friends. and i guess i'll throw in my two cents and say that this band is about as under appreciated as any band out there. i can't claim to be a huge fan, as i've only heard a handful of songs. but i attribute that to the fact that many typecast them as a novelty band, but songs like this and also "alive with the glory of love" prove that even while maintaining a very jovial perspective toward music, they can produce very wise lyrics with impressive music backing them.

and as for the "suck me 'til i'm sore" line that is in question, i've seen liner notes in cd's (even those with PA's) slightly alter phrases to omit derogatory connotations. i don't know why it's done... but i've seen it before. so possibly that is the case?

Thanx volffan. I def. thought he was saying "suck" but all the lyrics I was finding online were saying "stomp" which didnt seem to make as much sense. I thought the cd booklet would prove me rite. alas i was wrong & It was driving me crazy lol
