Lyrics for Jigsaw Falling into Place as interpreted by saturnine

Jigsaw Falling into Place Lyrics
Just as you take my hand
Just as you write my number down
Just as the drinks arrive
Just as they play your favourite song
As your bad mood disappears
No longer wound up like a spring
Before you've had too much
Come back in focus again

The walls abandon shape
They've got a Cheshire Cat grin
All blurring into one
This place is on a mission
Before the night owl
Before the animal noises
Closed circuit cameras
Before you're comatose

Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
The beat goes round and round
The beat goes round and round
You never really got me there
I just pretended that I had
Words are blunt instruments
Words are a sawed-off shotgun

Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out

Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
Just as you take the mic
Just as you dance, dance, dance

Jigsaw falling into place
There is nothing to explain
You eye each other as you pass
She looks back, you look back
Not just once
Not just twice
Wish away the nightmare
Wish away the nightmare
You've got it on you, can feel it on your back
It on you, can feel it on your back
Jigsaw falling into place

This was known as Open Pick before the release of In Rainbows.

this is a strange lyrical style for radiohead, more of a narrative than their usual stuff..

I was driving myself crazy not being able to identify the original name for this song... I thought I was imagining having heard it before.

It's not my favorite but it's definitely up there. Thom's vioce is extra amazing on the new record.

amazing song, i love the way thom sings this. The lyrics are very biting, sarcastic and also show a bit of longing. "What's the point of instruments
Words are a sawed off shotgun" pretty much sums the song up :).Possible relation to Myxamatosis with the whole "cheshire cat grin" line? Seems to be a not so fond reminder of a bad date, but I'm sure there is a deeper meaning I'm not grasping at the moment.

radiohead: sucking the life out of their own songs since 2006 ;)

At first he's talking about a great date: "Just as you take my hand, just as you write your number down," etc., maybe he met this woman tonight, and it's still exciting to him. But as they start drinking and dancing, he realizes that she's had too much and I'm guessing the Chesire cat grin was her trying to get him into bed. At this point, either he refuses, and she goes running off into the danceclub screaming "animal noises," or, as my first thought was, the animal noises signified sex, and then comatose would make sense and in the morning she leaves him, probably not having remembered any of it, and the "noise" might be her racing thoughts or maybe a hangover. If they didn't have sex, "I never really got there, I just pretended that I had" might be him telling people that they did, and then the words were as damamging as a sawed off shotgun. If they did, maybe he said something like I love you and he never actually did, and those words hurt him or her. But if they never did come together, then I suppose theyd still be dancing and she'd be making a fool out of herself in the second to last stanza. If not, that's a more metaphorical passage. The last one speaks for itself, though, as the jigsaws fal into place, and they walk past each other, maybe wishing it went better but knowing that, as a couple, they just didn't fit.

Whew.

Riplivejam, you're the biggest idiot on the site right now...

Notice how you seem to be the ONLY ONE ripping on In Rainbows?

Who the fuck needs electric guitar? This song is extremely upbeat and even catchy compared to the rest of the album. Just because "Reckoner" didn't turn out to be the original version does not mean the rest of the album sucks. Get the fuck over it.

I believe the song is about love. It's about the moments before everything gets sloppy, and when things are just perfect in anticipation of events to come with a new potential lover. A night someone has never experienced yet can sometimes be the night they never forget. Where it says "before" this and "before" that. To me, it plays on how we appreciate the game so much, and how the catch is a lot more fun than actually maintaining what you've received. For example, the discrepancy between hooking up and getting married.
Also, i would like to amend some of the lyrics. it's not "you've got a cheshire cat grin" it's "WE'VE got a cheshire cat grin" hence the "all blurring into one" line afterwards. I used a piece of software called "roni slow-me-down" for winamp to listen to the song at a slower pace and it is DEFINITELY "we've" and not "you've". To me, this dramatically changes the emphasis of the situation present. Somebody please listen to the new studio version and try to figure out if it's We've or You've because it's been driving me nuts. Also, the line "Before you start unravelling" is not in the studio version either, it is replaced with "Before you're lost between the notes" and the next line is "just as you take the mic". The rest of the song is ok. but i feel like i've listened to it enough times now as it is my favorite song, but everyone seems to get that one lyric backwards about the cheshire cat grin. please get back to me on this. :-)

"As the magic disappears" = "As your bad mood disappears"

"You've got a cheshire cat grin" = "They've got a cheshire cat grin", referring to the walls 'abandoning shape'.

and I think "before you're lost between the notes", not noise.

there isn't an acoustic in there somewhere? that sound totally makes the song. edgy and kind of sinister. kind of. trippy lyrics, though. one of the best songs on the album.

'She looks back, you look back. Not just once. Not just twice" ... "You've got a light you can feel it on your back".
When you can feel someone looking at you.
I think it could be about two people who are really bad for each other yet they keep going back and doing the same thing over and over again and so he can predict what's going to happen on the date. "Wish away the nightmare" could then mean you wish you could let that person go, but you can't. Or maybe it's just the way I'm interpreting it coz of stuff in my life.

Ahhh I love it. Its about finding that girl in the club and getting excited thinking this might lead somewhere, exchanging pleasentries, dancing and then at some point realizing its nothing more than a tried relationship. Did the girl and the guy narrator end up having sex? Im confused at that.

This song is so beautiful! My take on it is being in a relationship that's in trouble. The beginning has to do with one person who's drinking (too much) and their true feelings are coming out...or maybe they're made up. He thinks things are finally "falling into place" but there's still an uncertainty/sadness feeling to the song.

So far I agree with ---twigs--interpretation. I think the placement of the song in the album is significant, as is the name they gave it, rather than keeping the old "Open Pick" or calling it what they were going to call it first, "Pay Day". I think the last lines suggest a significant moment taking place, one where everything all of a sudden makes sense for the narrator.
