Lyrics for That Is Why as interpreted by stallionduck

That Is Why Lyrics
Today I sat and smoked myself to cancer
Thinking about the dancer at the bar
Well how was I to know
That a crush could just implode
‘Til it became a grudge eclipsing every star

And yes I know my addictions run the gamut
The drugs, the smokes, the booze, the 24
But you can't make the turkey colder
Or skew me less bipolar
Let me list the things about you I abhor

Horrible, you're
So easy, Talk sleazy
You led me off the plank and left me queasy
And that is why
You can't rock my world

You swore that you were taken when I met you
But yes, you did undress me from afar
A Gentile concubine
You skip amongst the mines
Just a product of the endless, empty grind

You lack the curves that prove a proper lady
A slender slave with sluttish, sleepy eyes
Though once I was emoting
And Bono-lyric quoting
I have found another be my guest and die

With starry eyes, she's
Warm-glancing, entrancing
And now I'm through with all your sick, sad ranting
And that is why
You can't rock my world

I've lost you
And now I glide through the silky sky
It's so blue
And you're just old news
That is why
So screwed
Cadaver gone blue, this has died
And grown gangrene
And now I see right through your lies

With...
Ripe wonder, I plunder
Her village now that I know I'll become her
And that is why
you can't rock my, that is why
that is why
You'll never ever ever ever ever ever in a god damn millennium
be my girl

love this song!

i think that it's about liking someone and wanting to get them in bed, but then actually developing true feelings for them.

Wow, these are some of the greatest lyrics I've ever read. I am anticipating the new album very fiercely.

I guess no one has heard the alternate version of this song where the lyrics are a COMPLETE 180 of this one?

Today I sat and smoked myself to cancer
Thinking about the dancer at the bar
Well how was I to know that this crush would grow and grow
Till it became a love eclipsing every star
And yes I know my addictions run the gamut
The smokes the booze the drugs the 24
But you have made the turkey colder as if I’m not bipolar
Let me list those things about you which I adore

Beautiful you’re freckled slightly
You’re laugh’s mighty
Expressive flexible not wound up tightly
and that is why you should rock my world

I knew that you were taken when I met you
For years I’d sit and undress you from afar
But now your’e free to be
An open sore like me
I would like to know just where you hide those scars

Cause you curve right where you should when you’re a lady
But you’re slender sleek and somewhat sleepy head
Atypically emoting
I’m bono-lyric quoting
Like I sell my soul to kneel between your thighs

Starry eyes your warm glancing
entrancing and you’re amused by my sick sad ranting
And that is why you should rock my world

I want you, you’re where I want to lay my head
Won’t you, you’re where I want to lay my head

With ripe wonder, I plunder (?)
Just to see if I become her
And that is why you should rock my...that is why you should rock my
That is why you should be my girl

I love the 2 versions of the song. they make eachother a lot better/funnier/more complete.

btw anyone know what he sings at the end of the album version one? after the "...in a goddamn millenium be my girl!"-part, when the music turns kind of circus:ish =P

=p

Max wrote 'Baby Girl, I'm a Blur' in Central Park. I am thinking he wrote this song after he saw a broadway musical. I love this, it is totally different than anything they've ever done. One of the songs I've listened to a lot since I got the album.

it's "a gentle concubine" not "but since you'll concubine". that doesn't even make sense. there's probably more mistakes that' i'm not seeing right off.

i love the whole feel of this song. reminds me of the like, flapper days.. especially the chorus part, before the 'that is why you can't rock my world' love love love.

i agree with most of these other posts, when i first heard this song, it elicited "broadway/showtune" and "christmas" feelings.

This is the most genius song off the new album. I think this song's tongue and cheek lyrics alone would make it a hit. Similar to Wow I can get sexual too. Who can't relate to this shit?

The album version with updated lyrics is good, but I liked the live acoustic version with the cute lyrics more. Max doesn't have many sweet songs, so I was pretty disappointed to hear the change on the album (though I was impressed how he changed only a few words and managed to completely switch the meaning of the song).

i's weird how he switched the song so much

i think this song is abouted max going to a strip club after he goes to the bar in 'no soul'

i hear anthony green during this part:

I've lost you
And now I glide through the silky sky
It's so blue
And you're just old news
That is why
So screwed
Cadaver gone blue, this has died
And grown gangrene
And now I see right through your lies

its just in the backround, like you can barely hear it but im a big anthony green fan so when i heard he was on this cd i searched for the track he was on hahah

I think Max meant this song to be a parody of a Broadway musical love song, but that he also felt a deeper connection to the subject matter.
