Lyrics for Spores as interpreted by stallionduck

Spores Lyrics
I was watching Demolition Man
Talking dirty to a fan who likes my band
When I took a chance and called you up
You said you visit but you just don't give a fuck
So I had to put you in your place
Leave a look of shame upon your face
Stood accused for the last two years
I got off, I got off, I got off.

But I
Still miss you more, I miss you more than I
Ever did before you left your spores inside
Of my empty core, our baby's got your eyes
Now I miss you more, I miss you more tonight

Then you threw me up against the wall
The city shook to meet our mating call
All the anger and the pain poured forth
The act itself defied the blessed source
When you were finished you were done with me
You explained it wasn't meant to be
I should've known it when you howled his name
You got off, you got off, you got off.

But I
Still miss you more, I miss you more than I
Ever did before you left your spores inside
When your gaze adorned the whore you left behind
Now I miss you more, I miss you more tonight

I miss you more tonight. [x3]

You know I still know how, how much your love costs.
You know when I peel back your layered lip gloss.
You know I still know how to fuck your eyes crossed.
It's your loss.
It's your loss.

Yep! Unless it's a metaphor for something...... which I doubt.

Okay, so after hearing Say Anything's new songs, I was a little disappointed at the change in style - they suddenly got "trendy". Regardless, I really do like this song. Max has always been really good at writing really bitter and/or sad breakup songs.

"You know I still know how, how much your love costs.
You know when I peel back your layered lip gloss.
You know I still know how to fuck your eyes crossed.
It's your loss.
It's your loss."

And I LOVE that part. You can't have a Say Anything song without some reference to sex. Haha.

I don't think this new album is "trendier" than the last one.

it seems to me that he was serious about the relationship and she was just using him

he felt closer to her after they had sex

as for the part with baby i think that is him thinking about what it would be like to get married and dreaming of how the kids might be

it also sort of reminds me of the movie i am sam because in that case the man is left with the baby and not the woman

Lol I thought he knocked someone up. Then they got into a fight and he "puts her in her place" and beats her up. Then he goes to jail...

I love this song because I can relate, but that's besides the point.

MY INTERPRETATION:

I think the song is about Max

Ok besides me looking like a dumbass up there...

I think the song is about Max and about a lover and how they both screwed up. I think the overall meaning has to do with how, despite how physical the relationship is and how it should mean nothing, it does and perhaps there was something before.
(He notes on how she left her spores in him. I take it as him saying that she used to love him, used to try to leave an impact on him. But he wouldn't have it. Perhaps he screwed up.)
Sex is all they are good for, and good at. The baby he sees might just be a symbol for the fulfilling life they could have shared if they didn't fuck up.
They could have started out well, but maybe he took her foregranted, and they just did it to do it and it became an emotional habit. She's grown used to it, and has taken her emotions out of the business- but the passion is still there (mating cry, city shook) even though she wears a facade around him (lip gloss). The sex is great- but meaningless. They're whoring each other out.

I wrote this great thing before. I'm so mad it didn't get pu through, so now here is this watered down thing. LAME.

This song is about a guy who ex girlfriend is ok with pretty much being His booty call.
and He misses the way they were when they were together.
But all of the passion is drained and He metephoricly had their child.
It means alot to Him.
He saying the sex is great but it's her loss.
He's lying to Himself and to Her.

I feel like in 'you're the waker...' Max started seeing his ex-girlfriend. They were a little flirty and remembered why the loved eachother in the first place. They were really fighting with those urges and now they get back together in this song

MemorialForADove, i think you got most of it right...
obviously theres an ex and they're still fuck buddies
he calls her up one night and she comes over
then she says how she was "done with him and it wasnt ment to be"
and i think shes ending it because she found someone new..."should've known it when you howled his name"
and its clear he still has fealings for her, and when she left, she "left her spores inside" of him...he always has a part of her with him wherever he goes because he still loves her but she doesnt care about him anymore

Can someone give their take on the word spores, as in, what it means in the song. I'm a litte lost on that one. I agree it COULD be std's, but it doesn't really fit for me?

I feel like spores could mean anything. could be std's but maybe he was trying to use more of a metaphorical word for memories.

This song means a lot to me.
it's basically my situation.
"When I took a chance and called you up
You said you visit but you just don't give a fuck
So I had to put you in your place
Leave a look of shame upon your face"
me being the one always wanting to hangout and always being rejected, then confronting him about it.
"The city shook to meet our mating call
All the anger and the pain poured forth
The act itself defied the blessed source
When you were finished you were done with me
You explained it wasn't meant to be "
Sex is all they are good for, and good at.
but after all this you still miss them, and want to be with them until you realize your probably better off without shallow meaningless sex.

i don't think spores means an std for this song, I'm thinking more like memories or something that was there before but is gone now.
