Hello Seattle, I am a mountaineer
In the hills and highlands
I fall asleep in hospital parking lots
And awake in your mouth

Hello Seattle, I am a manta-ray
Deep beneath the blue waves
I'll crawl the sandy bottom of Puget Sound
And construct my summer home

Hello Seattle, I am the crescent moon
Shining down on your face
I will disguise myself as a sleeping pill
And descend inside of you

Hello Seattle, I am a cold seahorse
Feeling warm in your sand
I sing about the tide and the ocean surf
Rolling in the evening breeze

Hello Seattle, I am an albatross
On the docks and your boats
I sail above your inlets and interstates
Through the rain and open wind

Hello Seattle, I am an old lighthouse
Throwing beams of bright lights
Red in the morning, blue in the evening sun
Taking heed from everyone

Hello Seattle, I am a mountaineer
In the hills and highlands
I fall asleep in hospital parking lots

Take me above your light
Carry me through the night
Hold me secure in flight
Sing me to sleep tonight

Take me above your light
Carry me through the night
Hold me secure in flight
Sing me to sleep tonight

Song Meaning:I think, like some others, this song is about accepting death. First of all, e said he was a mountaineer, so that could mean there was an accident or something?
The first clue is "I fall asleep in hospital parking lots".

    The next line is
    "And Awake in your mouth".
I think at this point, the patient is entering a dreamlike coma state. They are mixing things up. The line
"I am a cold seahorse" Seems to relate to that of a dead person. They would feel cold.
When it says "I am an old lighthouse throwing beams of bright lights. Red in the morning Blue in the evening."
Normal Lighthouses do not have red and blue light. In his mind, he is imagining the lights on an ambulance as lights in a lighthouse. Now it replays some lines. After the next "I fall asleep in hospital parking lots" The beat/drums that were there throughout the song stop. I think the drum beat is kind of like the persons heartbeat. This signifies the death of the person. Then,

    Take me above your light
    Carry me through the night
    hold me secure in flight
sing me to sleep at night.

I think this is talking about Adam's relationship with god. He is accepting death because he knows that he will be safe with god, and to hold him secure so that he is always with god.

    Just my thoughts.

General Comment:Um I live in Washington a little way off from Seattle. First, there are no manta-rays in Puget Sound and second, the guy doesn't live in Seattle or even Washington.

Song Meaning:Literally, the first two lines tell you that he is in fact, singing, literally, about Seattle. "I am a mountaineer" - many mountains in Washington state, "In the hills in Highlands" - Highlands is a very upperclass gated community in north Seattle. Mountaineer/Highlands. A few lines later he speaks of Puget Sound and summer homes. Many People have summer homes on the Sound. Crescent moons and evening breezes are even spoken of, wanna guess where i'm going with that one?

Basically, it breaks down to Seattle and it's surrounding areas being a badass place to visit or live.

General Comment:This is about his insomnia! Well that's what i think at least, i think he is trying to talk from a third person perspective. like someone who is trying to help him, "I will disguise myself as a sleeping pill"

    Take me above your light
    Carry me through the night
    Hold me secure in flight
    Sing me to sleep tonight

now he is talking from his perspective, take me away from light so i can sleep and hold me to make me feel safe and sing to make me sleepy.

That's what i think, that is my interpretation, no need to criticize! :)

General Comment:Ok, I disagree whoever thinks that Owl City has dark meanings for his songs. Because it'salmost physically impossible for him to write sad songs! (except for vanilla twilight, a personal fave) Here's my interpretation: Seattle is like the rest of humanity. And when he beacame famous (cuz this was on Of June) everyone started treating him...special. He had fans, admirers (stalkers) but he just wanted to be veiwed as a normal person. So in the song, he makes himself a part of everyday life in Seattle. At the end, he asks for support while he's "flying". Why does he make a reference to flying in every song?
