Lyrics for Rock-N-Rule as interpreted by good_evening

Rock-N-Rule Lyrics
This is a waking up
This is your final go
And I would never want to see you
Get torn apart

And I can't believe it
I can't believe your apart of this world
You were a sick sad man from the start

And your not even worth my time
I can't be stopped
I'll just keep going all the way
You will try
But you will fail
Just say
It's over and it's done with

I drove around Chicago
Heading to Champaigne
I passed right through a country
With a gorge as high as any
God has ever made

I saw a man beside the road
He said "Excuse me sir I think I've lost my way"
Then I told him as I pulled back
On the road and headed south
I've got no time to waste
I said I guess you don't have faith
It doesn't matter anyway

It's the way
It's the way you want it
Everything
Everything in it's place
It's the way
It's the way you want it
Everything
Everything in this place

I guess you don't have faith

This is a waking up
This is your final go
So don't you expect me to be there
When you fall

Correct lyrics:

This is a waking up.
This is your final call and I would never
want to see you get torn apart.
I can't believe it.
I can't believe you're a part of this world.
You were a sick, sad man from the start.

Now you're not even worth my time.

I can't be stopped, I'll just keep going all the way.
You will try, but you will fail,
just say it's over and done with.

I drove around Chicago, headed to Champaign.
I passed right through the country where the
corn is as high as any God has ever made.
I saw a man beside the road he said,
"Excuse me sir, I think I've lost my way."
And I told him as I pulled back on the road
and headed south, "I've got no time to waste."
I said, "I guess you don't have faith."
(Does it matter anyway?)

It's the way you wanted. Everything in its place.

I guess you don't have faith.

This is a waking up.
This is your final call.
So don't you expect me to be there when you fall.

What do y'all think this song is about? At first read I have considered it to be sort of a tough love story. It is hard to invest yourself in someone and then have them chase after other things. You can't grab them and pull them back, you just have to move on and hope that someday they turn back. That's my thought.

i doubt this is what it means, but what it could mean is that there was this guy they knew in high school or college or something, and he wasn't exactly the nicest guy around, and the narrartor befriended him, but he kind of was a jerk and backstabbed the narrorator. the narrorator probably told him about GOD or something, and then later on in life when this guy is an afterthought, the narrorator is in the country of illinois and he sees this guy broken down who is a bum, and its the same guy from earlier. now all of sudden the guy wants to be the narrorators friend when he has nothing left, when he doesnt have GOD. then the narrorator says 'i guess you don't have faith' and drives on.
i doubt its what it means but its a wicked song.

i believe it's completely a conversation with himself.

it may make more sense if you read it that way.

I agree with the last comment. seems like a conversation with himself. questioning his beliefs at times. which lots of christian's have done. possibly some sort of accident making him realize he needs to wake up and see that there is a God.

well emery lyrics is what i do...

first off this entire album is about regret and forgiveness
that helps alot when you think of this song
it could be a conversation with himself but i read it differently

"This is a waking up....I cant believe your a part of this world, a sisck sad man from the start"

hes just done something horrible that he regrets and he doesnt feel like he deserves to be apart of this world

when he speaks as "you" its a friend trying to help him
"your not even worth my time." for example

then he goes on to say he cant be stopped and his friend will try but fail and he will go all the way...makes sense so far right?

now to the hard part....

when he talks about his drive throuugh illinois he switches perspective

like him he meets a man who needs help
and in his hypocrisy he drives off and says "i guess u just dont have faith"

then he realizes his mistake and tells himself
"It's the way
It's the way you want it
Everything
Everything in it's place"

and tells himself "I guess you don't have faith."

and then he switches to the conversation with his friend for the last few lines.... could be wrong but what do u think?

Well, last night I got to meet Devin, the person who wrote these lyrics and I asked him what the "drove around Chicago headed to Champagne..." part was about and he told me that he lives in or around Champagne and he was driving and a man on the side of the road asked for his help but he basically told the man he had no time to help him out, so basically he said it is about selfishness.
I hope this sheds some light <3

Thanks Devin for clearing it up!
