Lyrics for Cheer Up Boys (Your Makeup is Running) as interpreted by ernzoa

Cheer Up Boys (Your Makeup is Running) Lyrics
It was meant to be
but all along it never meant a thing
never stopped to ask you why
you didn't pass me by
did you see me in your life
flash before your eyes
was it just that i wasn't hard enough,
hard enough for you

Stop using my
confusion
wait, wait

theres a world out there
Don't you deny me
give me one last wish
theres a world out there

elementary
i solved them all
all your mysteries
settle down and in good time
we can solve all mine
tell me lies or tell me when
tear me up again
I will let you know
when I've had enough,
had enough of you

I know you've got your reasons
hey lets call it even
turn out all the lights and go to bed
Still I get this feeling
no one will believe me
when i let these ghosts outside my head

Excellent song! Should be a fan favourite, sounds like something from the colour and the shape. Rock on!

It's actually about the 1980's emocore scene, since Grohl was a part of that in his band Scream.

ugh..please don't say that about Scream..i like to think of them as DC Punk..even if they aren't, please don't kill my little dream..besides ppl call Fugazi emocore, and i find that a little hard to believe.

anyway i think this is poking fun at himself in the emocore scene, but also emo nowadays, because all these boys are screaming, wearing make-up, and boo-hooing about their dead pet gerbils all mostly to impress girls. i think this is telling them to grow the hell up. BUT i also think that this about a relationship gone bad, and he just has to grow up and get over it. just my first impression though.

I posted a comment saying that The Pretender was the best song on the album on that song's thread. I was WRONG. Dead wrong.

This song is so fucking good...it pains me that the rest of the album (I found it rather disappointing) isn't at least close to the quality of the song.

I love the title. Best song title ever.

THERE'S A WORLD OUT THERE!!!!!!!

aww thats not cool. i think that the band just evolves and gets better with every album. i think from the first album to this one, you can definitely see there growth as artists, and as a band.

Honestly, I didn't see much evolution. This record sounds a whole lot like In Your Honor. I love some songs on the album, but it's like they melded both discs of IYH.

ACTUALLY, I take that back. I've just listened to the album over again...

I don't know what happened, but I all of a sudden love every song on the album...

Guess I was being a tad too petty and judgmental...and I'm sorry for that.

This is what Dave Grohl said in Kerrang! about this song:

"People keep saying this is aimed at the emo brigade. Come on now, don't be so sensitive! I'd hate to offend anyone because it's all meant to be in good fun. The title actually has nothing to do with the song; it was a working title that stuck because we thought it was funny. Whenever a genre of music gets labelled and then becomes a parody of itself I think it's a shame, though. That's something the title alludes to."

Looking at the lyrics, I can't see what this song has to do with "emo" (whatever that is) at all.

Grohl has said that when they were making the album all the other songs were either a bit serious, angry or melancholy so they wanted something a bit more upbeat, that's how the title came about, proetty much laughing at themselves & they didn't want to change it.

honestly, the first thing i thought of is someone's life turned around. someone who had a bad life. someone with a disease or cancer or tragdey or heart break.. and then realizing when it's bad, it's really not that bad. I love how the music just adds to the lyrics. There's a world out there! don't you deny me!"
it's really powerful and meaningful to those who need that boost.

This song is so bland and repetitive, just like all of the foo fighters' music.

This song contains maybe on of Dave Grohl's best lines ever: "Did you see me when your life flashed before your eyes?"

That line is so deep but obvious. Did I mean enough to you that, when your life is over, you will remember me?

now mattehboy101, i'll agree with you that this one song is rather bland, but overall, pound for pound, the foo's are the best rock band of the last 15 years

You're bland and repetitive
so screw you =]

The Foo are one of the very few bands around today that just can't be called repetitive; they have an awesome amount of variation in their music. Dave Grohl can scream and sing (quite a rare talent), and the different emotions provoked by the entire back catalogue of the Foo Fighters are on an entirely new level.

Plus they're fucking amazing live - saw them at Wembley in June >.
