Erase/Replace Lyrics
Attention
Pay attention
No mention
A sickest array
A mission
An admission
Ignition
Detonate

Oh no don't talk about it
No please don't talk about it
Oh no don't talk about it
Not one more word about it
Oh no don't think about it
No please don't think about it
Oh please don't think about it
It goes away

We made these promises
You made these promises
Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace
We'll make more promises
We'll wait for promises
Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace

A vision
Division
Revision
Recognate
An action
A reaction
Distraction
Question the fate

Oh no don't talk about it
No please don't talk about it
Oh no don't talk about it
It goes away

We made these promises
You made these promises
Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace
We'll make more promises
We'll wait for promises
Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace

Oh, oh we're better off now
It's the only thing left said
Meant for you
Oh, oh we're better off now
It's the only thing left said
Meant for you

We'll make these promises
We'll make these promises
Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace
We'll make more promises
We'll wait for promises
Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Erase
Replace
Erase
Replace

One of the best on the new album! Nice to see the boys still have something new. I don't care what this song means, just listen and love it.

I think the song is about a relationship. Most of Dave's songs can be related to a relationship. Anyway, I think it's about people avoiding things that are tearing them apart, thinking that if they "Oh, no, don't talk about it; it goes away."

Then they find that they have to erase and replace their promises to each other so that the relationship can work out.

Did he go through a divorce recently? i don't really keep up on bands except for like new CDs but some of his songs seem like a failed relationship. but more in dept, like a failed marriage.

Not recently. He has had a divorce before. He recently had a kid with his second wife. From what I can tell, based on interviews, he seems pretty happy in that relationship--and about being a dad.

However, a failing relationship is a pretty universal and relatable concept, and it can happen to anyone. Maybe that's what he was trying to do here.

obviously about the war

"We'll make thise promises, erase, replace" is referring to the promise that america made to erase the old government of iraq and replace it with a democracy.

why does everyone think everything off this album is about the war??? most of their songs are about love and relationships, as well as this one. its about how easily and quickly we replace significant others.

i bet this becomes a fourth single. it's a good song with ace guitar/drums, but wont get much radio play, or a video. kinda like Have It All. still a very good song

not every song's about relationships you know...

sounds to me like it's about politics. promises are made, they're broken, they're swept under the table (erased) and replaced with new policies. 'please don't talk about it' = please don't bring up that promise i broke.

This song is about how the Foo Fighters "replaced" Nirvana after Kurt Cobain died and how they were "erased."
"We'll make these promises" - Kurt promised Dave that everything was good and nothing was wrong.

"Oh, oh we're better off now
It's the only thing left said
Meant for you
Oh, oh we're better off now
It's the only thing left said
Meant for you" - Dave's telling himself that it's better that Kurt's gone and that he has to say goodbye for the last time.

Anyway, great song. The whole album is great.
