A heart of gold
But it lost it's pride
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
I see your face
In another light

[Chorus]
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
In too deep
And out of time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

A simple man
And his blushing bride
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Intravenous
Intertwined
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Hearts gone cold
Your hands were tied
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)

[Chorus]

Do you ever think of me
You're so considerate
Did you ever think of me
Oh so considerate

In too deep
And lost in time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Hearts gone cold
And hands are tied
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

Do you ever think of me
You're so considerate
Did you ever think of me
Oh so considerate

In too deep
And lost in time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Hearts gone cold
And hands are tied
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

General Comment:I get that it's annoying when people think that every song is about Kurt, but this one clearly is. And no, he isn't speaking to Courntey about letting it die. I think he's finally allowing himself to be angry with Kurt, asking him, did you ever think of me? and why'd you have to let it die?

He isn't wasting his time on Courtney because he's above that. the only reference to her in this song is blushing bride. The rest of it is straight to Kurt, and more power to him for realising it's okay to be angry. Loved ones often are when suicide is involved. x

General Comment:"In too deep and lost in time. why'd you have to go and let it die?" the "in too deep" part may be referring to the body drowning in water in the music video. "lost in time" most likely refers to one of the band member's dogs, of whom the song was written in memory of.

Song Meaning:This song is clearly about Heroin addiction taking control over someone close's life. "Heart of Gold, but lost its pride" refers to the depravity and desperation a addict goes through to get his next high. "Hearts gone cold, hands are tied" "Intravenous intertwined" These lines refer to the hold that hard drugs take over you, to the point they take your free-will from you when you become mentally and physically dependent on them. The singer of this song is singing about how he sees this person "the subject of the song" in a different light "I see your face in a different light" is expressing how he knew this person before addiction and dependency took them over. So who can tell me was close to the singers life who went through this experience?

General Comment:Not about Cobain - hmmmm.... "A heart of gold
But it lost it's pride - Cobain was oft mentioned as a selfless man uncomfortable pushed into the glare of celebrity and brought that negativity into himself. "Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes - Veins! Heroin and Cobains well known piercing eyes – bloodshot as a simile for the drug addiction. Try reversing them “bloodshot veins and beautiful eyes” – not very subtle 
    “A simple man
And his blushing bride” Cobain and Courtney and the most telling line straight after this couplet “Intravenous
Intertwined” they were entwined through their drug addiction hence the use of the word “Intravenous” just prior etc etc.

Its not just about Mr Cobain and his wife but it is about them to some extent and the anger “why do have to go and let it die” the loss of talent, innocence etc through suicide that persons feel when someone close to them kills themselves.

General Comment:I have not read the comments, but some of you might have
seen the interview with Dave (and Taylor) in which Dave talks
about Let It Die. He says that the song is about two people
falling apart and the feeling you get when someone throws
    life away.

General Comment:I don't think this song has anything to do with Kurt or Courtney. I mean its been years since his death. If Dave Grohl had never been the drummer of Nirvana and had written this song we wouldn't have the faintest idea of who it was about. I think that when we try to figure out the meanings of these songs that we need to stop trying so hard to connect the author to the lyrics. Instead we should try to figure out what the speaker in the song is saying. That way we are able to go deeper into what the song means. Just a thought. I just think its about being in love with someone who destroyed something beautiful by making really dumb choices. The lover chose to be high over being alive and happy with the singer.

General Comment:"Blushing bride" could also be about courtney basically stealing from Dave and krist. Also, beautiful veins, heroine, Kurt. Like I said. This song is way too specific.

My Opinion:My mom was a die hard nirvana fan and named me after Kurt (who did spell his name with a d at one point. Look it up) so I have followed the foo fighters and researched nirvana Kurt and courtney quite a bit. Obviously it is still a huge debate about how Kurt died. This song points out that whether or not Kurt killed himself it is in someway his fault for "letting it die" or ruining the great freindship they had. I do not believe that every song Dave writes is about Kurt. In fact I believe this is the only ff song that is."Blushing bride" could have something to do with Dave thinking courtney had something to do with kurts death. This song is too specific to be about anything in general. Of course Dave Wont admit to it being about Kurt. That would lead to more questions that he shouldn't have to answer, false accusations, and possible negative criticism. Please comment if u disagree.

Song Meaning:this song is NOT about Kurt and Courtney. Dave even said in an interview himself it is not. it's obviously about two people in a relationship and one sounds like they may have a drug problem, and they let the relationship die.
