Lyrics for Let It Die as interpreted by risefromtheashes

Let It Die Lyrics
A heart of gold
But it lost it's pride
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
I see your face
In another light

Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
In too deep
And out of time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

A simple man
And his blushing bride
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Intravenous
Intertwined
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Hearts gone cold
Your hands were tied
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)

Why'd you have to go
And let it die
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
In too deep
And out of time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

Do you ever think of me
You're so considerate
Did you ever think of me
Oh so considerate

In too deep
And lost in time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Hearts gone cold
And hands are tied
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

Do you ever think of me
You're so considerate
Did you think of me
Oh so considerate

In too deep
And lost in time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Hearts gone cold
And hands are tied
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let this die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

i think this song is more about kurt then cortney and i don't normally think their songs are about kurt, but the Beautiful veins And bloodshot eyes part sounds like a drug habit, and the A simple man And his blushing bride Intravenous Intertwined Hearts gone cold Your hands were tied sounds like 2 people had a drug habit, and then they realized they couldn't do it without, and couldn't love eachother and then one couldn't handel it and it ended. badly. and then he's like what about me, i was left behind... and at first i thought it was about a relationship gone bad, but then it seemed too detached, like he's singing about "these people" the whole song, and all of a sudden he's talking about himself...

best song on the album. the last :45 seconds on the track is my favorite clip of music ever. i hope this is the next single, because long road to ruin is lacking that adrenaline that makes a song a foo's song

i think that this song could be directed at both kurt and courtney separately. the beginning of the song has sort of a wistful sound to it; this is the part that i would think is addressing kurt. when the tempo increases and dave grohl's tone changes, i think the lyrics, although the same as before, could be addressing courtney.

alternatively, the song could be entirely about kurt and when dave grohl (allegedly) dedicated it to courtney it could have been a nod to her role in cobain's struggle with addiction. in this case, i would attribute the increase in tempo and change of tone to grohl's anger that courtney love gained control of nirvana's material following cobain's death because of what she has done with it. hence "why'd you have to go and let this die? ... did you ever think of me?"

My absolute favorite song on the album right before it goes hard and it goes back to the just acoustic and then he lashes out on the electric is simply amazing, I didn't realize the Kurt/Courtney connection, but now it is apparent once you've been told

people seriously need to get over the cobain/love references. honestly.

dave grohl was never close to his old nirvana bandmates, why do people not realize this? why does everyone think they were buddy buddy? they were not.

go here, www.fooarchive.com, you'll learn alot and finally stop making dumb inquiries.

honestly, to assume this man is going to dedicate his whole life to writing songs about that? how disrespectful and stupid people are.

dave grohl can't fart without someone mentioning something about it.

This song reminds me of Kurt but directed to Courtney. When he says 'let this die' it makes me think about how in Dave's point of view, Courtney destroyed Nirvana. And all the 'beautiful veins and blood shot eyes' and 'heart of gold' that reminds me of Kurt.

Yup.. Entirely not about Kurt or Courtney. Dave Grohl insists! Listen to the lyrics... It's EXACTLY about what it sounds like it is...and that's how it should be. But feel free to liberally interpret. Nice use of acoustics to transition between the near silence of sadness and the rage and power of anger. Great song! I love it!

'blushing bride' is a lyric in a Hole song.
Though I don't know if that has anything to do with one another.

I have only heard this song a few times but to me it seems like it is talking about a relationship. The Part "I've see your face in another light" makes me think that the person they are taking about did/said something to make the other person see them in a different way and can never look at them in the same as before, which in the end destroyed what they once had.

Why is it that every song has to be about nirvanna's crappy singer and his relationship to his wife?

Maybe, just maybe, songwriters have written about something different. For example, it could be the fact that a the charisma of a relationship has died, and instead of the guy blaming himself, he blames the girl. He feels her happy personality has gone cold, and she doesn't care anymore, or is lost in time.

I feel that it is rather insulting to the songwriter to think that all he cares about is Nirvanna, which evidently really wasn't that great.

i think it sounds like a girl he could have had a relationship with but when i 1st herd it i thought it might have been about his dead friend/guitarist Kurt Cobain but it sound more like it was about kurt morn then a girl but its a kick ass song i like how it just starts all slow and then it just kicks it up to hard rock

T Cap i like the first half better. :]
I think this song is about anyone who was some how dependent on two other people's relationship, or felt deeply effected by it, and the confusion you can have when it ends. like, a child with divorced parents. but if dave said it goes out to courtney, that too makes sense!

To me, this song is about a long relationship that ended because one person fell out of love with the other person in the relationship "In too deep and out of time". One person with a heart of gold is still in love which causes a loss of pride, the other person's heart went cold and possibly wanted to be in love with the other but couldn't make them self "your hands were tied". What I feel from the song is that the person who fell out of love strings the other person along "inconsiderate" which angers the other person.

Mmm, I don't think it necessarily needs to be about anyone in particular. It could be just about any lost couple.

A heart of gold
But it lost it's pride
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
I see your face
In another light
(Like others have said, maybe a drug user, or someone who's not who they were orginally believed to be)

Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
In too deep
And out of time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
(Pretty self explanatory. He's berating her.)

A simple man
And his blushing bride
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Intravenous
Intertwined
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Hearts gone cold
Your hands were tied
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
(Now this part is interesting. Maybe the two even got married before he realized that she was different than he thought she was, and that even though he would continue to love her-She didn't love him afterwards. Their 'hands entwined', which is generally symbolic of marriage. The 'Too deep' lyrics of the song also suggest this.)

Why'd you have to go
And let it die
(Why'd you have to go)
(And let it die)
Why'd you have to go
And let it die
In too deep
And out of time
Why'd you have to go
And let it die

Do you ever think of me
You're so considerate
Did you ever think of me
Oh so considerate
(The realization.
Again.)

-Hope this helps.

I think it is about drugs, and how it makes somebody he cares about changes for the worse
"beautiful vains and boodshot eyes"
THis could be refering to Kurt's addiction, i don't know

i played this song over and over again the night my stepdad first beat my mother.
when i finally saw her i just left her with this song.
like she was letting our relationship die by staying with him.

"hearts gone cold hands are tied"
"heart of gold but lost its pride"
to me that ended up symbolizing how she became tied to a relationship with an evil man, and lost all her pride and dignity so she wasnt strong enough to leave.

"did you ever think of me your so considerate"
was about how she never thought of how their relationship might effect me.

i know thats not what the song was written about.
but thats what it means to me.

When I first heard this song I thought it was about Kurt and Courtney to but I just watched an interview on youtube and Dave said it wasn't. He said its just about to people who were in love and just fell apart
