there is this thing that's like fucking except you don't fuck
back in the day it just went without saying at all

all the worlds history, gradually dying of shock
there is this thing that's like talking except you don't talk

you
sing
you
sing

sing for the bartender, sing for the janitor , sing
sing for the cameras, sing for the animals, sing
sing for the children, shooting the children, sing
sing for the teachers who told you couldn't sing

just
sing

there is this thing keeping everyones lungs and lips locked
it is called fear and its seeing a great renaissance
after the show you can not sing wherever you want
but for now lets just pretend we're all gonna get found

so sing

sing 'cause it's obvious, sing for the astronauts, sing
sing for the president, sing for the terrorist, sing
sing for the soccer team, sing for the janjaweed sing
sing for the kid with the phone who refuses to sing

just sing

life is no cabaret
we'd don't care what you say
we're inviting you anyway

General Comment:Yes, it most definitely is a Cover. In terms of TRP's r/ship with Amanda - firstly they supported the Dresden Dolls across Australia. Trash and Amanda formed a great bond, and Amanda invited them to tour the States with them.

Recently (about three weeks ago) TRP supported Amanda Palmer at her solo show in Brisbane, and for any American's who are keen to get to know TRP better - they'll be in the USA in late April. Not sure if they'll be touring - but they'll be playing at least one show in California, and we're hoping they'll get a slot at Coachella :o)

    some people might get confused.

General Comment:Right, exactly. The Red Paintings opened for The Dresden Dolls when they toured the States - it was TRP's first time in America.

As for this song, the version that's on the Feed the Wolf EP has the lyrics that Motherwar_xx has.

You can stream the cover of this song here:

The strings on this cover are insanely beautiful.

General Comment:i know the red paintings are one of amanda's favourite bands though, which is probably why she let them cover it.

i haven't actually heard this cover yet though.

    General Comment:yeah

this is a song written by the incredible and beautiful amanda palmer of the dresden dolls.

she said she's always been unsure about the kids at shows singing along to her songs, so this song is a reaction to that.

General Comment:Actually, Just, while you are correct in asserting that The Dresden Dolls wrote this song, The Red Paintings covered this song on their latest CD, "Feed The Wolf".

And the cover is amaaaazing. You should get the album if you can.
