Lyrics for Poppin' Champagne as interpreted by thoseguiltyeyes

Poppin' Champagne Lyrics
You've got me poppin' champagne
I'm at it again
Caught up in the moment
But not in the right way
I'm falling in between
Tearing up at the seams
With tracks aiming to please
And aesthetics don't hurt one bit

So follow me down
Take this all the way
Any way you want to

Why don't you say so?
I think I'm caught in between
The nights and days fly by
When I'm lost on the streets
And my eyes
They despise you for who I am
Why don't you say so?
Why don't you say so?

You've got me thinking that
Lately I've been wishing
The television set would show me more
Than just a picture of
The things I've grown to detest
I strip down my dignity
They can take all of me
But they won't ever take
What I still believe

So follow me down
Take this all the way
Any way you want to

Why don't you say so?
I think I'm caught in between
The nights and days fly by
When I'm lost on the streets
And my eyes
They despise you for who I am
Why don't you say so?
Why don't you say so?

Give up and let go
I'm just a boy with a dream
And you can take one look
As I fall in between
With my eyes just as wide
As my mouth can be
Why don't you say so?
Why don't you say so?

I know, I know, I know
That there's a place for me
Somewhere out there
I know, I know, I know
That there's a place for me
Somewhere out there

Why don't you say so?
I think I'm caught in between
The nights and days fly by
When I'm lost on the streets
My eyes
They despise you for who I am
Why don't you say so?
Why don't you say so?

Give up and let go
I'm just a boy with a dream
And you can take one look
As I fall in between
With my eyes just as wide
As my mouth can be
Why don't you say so?
Why don't you say so?

Why won't you say so?
Why don't you say so? (x4)

I think its his fears of making it big and not knowing what to do. Like the pressure of everything and stuff. I think it a great way to end the album.

i agree with what chokeondrama said, that it's about it the pressure to be a certain way and how he's "falling in between" in Hollywood. Like he's scared to get left behind.

when i listen to the first verse... i instantly thought it was about sex/masterbation...... the second verse doesnt really hold water on that idea though.... but the title and the first verse i def think someone's getting off

i'm pretty sure that it is about being afraid of becoming huge.

and becoming like the people he detests ["the television set would show me more than just a picture of the things I've grown to detest"].

and it would be really obvious for him [for THEM] to feel that way. because honestly, they are going to be huge. and for some kids from maryland who drink a little too much, it must seem just a little weird, eh?

he metions in a video [his youtube account is alexATL, i think] that he doesn't want people to think they are selling out. and that they love all their fans, and they want discriminate no matter what song/album you like. and that could be what the song is about? not knowing what to say because they don't want to disapoint anyone, but they don't want to sell-out either.

=] the whole band is pretty nice. you should go see 'em live, and meet them. =]

"Everything carleeloversilly said"
Word.

I also thought it was a song about random vents and stuff, and 'poppin champagne' brings it out, like you know, when you're drunk you'll say/do anything. I wonder if he was drunk when he wrote this. You never know :) Then again, I'll never know if this song is actually really really deep... unless I ask. Cause they're nice people, like carleeloversilly said :)

i definitely agree with carleeloversilly. :D

though at the concert on monday, alex said it was about dancing, though he also said that he's banged jack's mom.
i'm sure he was just being a dork. :')

I don't remember which interview it was that I heard this from, but Alex said that it was about playing pop music and not caring what people thought

hahaha. alex doing skellanimals made me laugh so hard.

it's like he's selling out but he isn't. like doing that would be selling out but it doesn't apply to him because he still acts the same..

anyway that has nothing to do with that song but so do most of these comments that are so off the mark i actually laughed out loud.

I think in the first stanza he is celebrating something, IE the 'champagne' reference however he isn't celebrating something that he wanted to do, but something done for others IE the 'we're aiming to please' part.
The narrator is angry at someone because of their unforeseen influences IE the 'And my eyes
They despise you for who I am' part. The narrator feels he is caught in between what he wants and what people expect of him. He is lost in what to do, and is mad that he feels obligated to do things for others instead of himself. Time keeps going by and the narrator still hasn't found that something for himself, and maybe he wants someone to just tell him to live for himself and forget everyone else.

Quickly became my favorite song-of-the-week. It's just so damn catchy! I'm not sure that I find much substance in these lyrics though. Eat me alive for saying it, but everything's so vague that no one's really going to put time into figuring it out. But I guess it doesn't matter. Demanding "Why don't you say so?" is something everyone can identify with.

And no shit, Radful?!? That is INFURIATING. And just like the MTV hypocrites. [Still no qualms with sexist rap soft-porn videos though, I assume.]
