i looked at the lyrics to this song when i picked up Venus Doom, and i was in absolute awe of the first two lines. my jaw literally dropped

I have to say their new album is nothing like their old stuff. DarkLight was a big disappointment. I've always loved HIM, but in later years I've thought, "Why the hell do you use those high vocals everywhere, when you really, really don't need to?!"

This is the best album since Razorblade Romance. Really, saw them live this summer. Lots of sound problems. But God, how beautiful

There are definetly moments where you can start to hear the raw GLSV666 sound start to bite through, but its just too polished for that kind of sound. Main complaint is that Song or Suicide isn't long enough. That song would have been epic.

I'd say this song is about betrayal.

Like, the girl who he sings it to is about to betray her bf:
kiss and tell - she's doing it just to 'kill the demons within her'
kill and tell - she's going to hurt her bf by doing that, she will fail both his and her own heart, but her passion is deranged, she cannot control it, so she will regret it later, but it will be too late, her soul will already be sold.

i totally agree dark light was allright but it wasnt the best but VENUS DOOM is probably one of their best albums to date i love it & this is my favorite song on the album

and I think that the girl he sings about has lusts, and no matter how much she loves her bf and she feels guitly about it afterwards she has to do what her "demons"/sinfull lusts tell her.

"No love lost under her will" I think it means that she doesn't wanna loose her boyfriend even though she's cheating on him. He doesn't wanna be with her anymore though...


well, that's my opinion, and ppl, what does the word "church" mean in this song? I mean, does he wanna understand her and pretends that he thinks it's okay so that she will hold her tears in?

what does this mean?

One lover has an obvious hate within them self, and threatens it with the idea of love (gun) that isn't really wanted by this person, but just to overcome the pain for awhile, they need someone.

The predator named Love hunts for those willing...or in this case weak to take over and cause an overbearing of pain in the end (praises the dead). Ever since the beginning they were destined for love and deep down inside, destined for death as well.

At one early point in this individual's life, they were taught about Love from a blindside point of view in which they were promised "Happiness ever after."

A church, a temple, a place of shelter was secured inside as this individual tries to continue to believe what they were once told about love and hold back her obvious hate, but sees that love is much more conflictable than that.

Since love is so hard and hidden in life, it seems constrained and questions come up. Going on a leap of faith, since this life cannot answer my dreams of true love, only in death can i fully feel love.


The Chorus, on the other hand, may or may not have a double meaning. I say this in reference to the first part of the chorus because although I believe it means this individual is sacrificing them self to love, It may or may not be them.

The Second part is exceptionally emotional because it almost mean to me that this individual doesn't know how to express their love through nothing but the ultimate sacrificing of themself and their lover doesn't understand it and will soon be alone in life.

To me it reminds me a little of "Romeo & Juliet" and it wouldnt be the first time either that Ville portrays them in a song, he said so with close to the flame an gone with the sin, that it was in a way the story of them in two songs, but well, here it goes

She loves someone she is not supposed to so he becomes in a way like an inner demon, or at least everybody else will see it that way

With a gun loaded with guilt you opened their eyes

I think she may have shot herself and when everyone else, say her parents, friends, etc... found out why they felt, lets say, a "shot of guilt" that opened their eyes and made them see they were wrong

In the heart of our hearts by death we were wed

now this is what reminds me of the play the most, they are hounted by love while living, its like a cruel joke and they are trapped in it, and the only way they see to be together as a real couple without hiding or whatever is in death, hence, "by death we were wed"

they are about to commit suicide, in order to be together so in a way its like a deal, selling their souls to te devil to be together... thinking of the religious punishment if you kill yourself you go to hell, but they are doing it and if they are going for it they are going to do it well hehe

They are going to fail their family, and loved ones in general by ending a life they expected to go in a complete different way

And on those words a church was built to keep the pain in

considering is the guy narrating the story then the girl would be referring to the death as a "she" and as they are going to end their lifes there wouldnt be any future to define if their love was meant to last, so it wouldnt be lost, but forever. And those words are like the greatest truth for everyone who did something like that for love, its holy to them, worth creating a "church" or sanctuary for it to leave the pain of living inside and leave

And as I say, they believe that dying is the only way to be together and the only way to be in love forever without any more misteries that love may have, so they will continue bleeding in a dream like state

I'm pretty sure this song is really personal for Valo... the songs from this album were for a "close friend who committed suicide soon after the band wrapped the recording sessions for Dark Light" (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1556419/20070405/him___.jhtml)

So, if you think of it with this in mind, there's a message of maybe hope or rethinking in times of depression: "If death is the answer to love’s mysteries/Then bleed on my darling to the sound of a dream"
In the beginning the "demons" his friend has to kill are the things that are putting him/her in the mood of depression. The gun is the tool of suicide and as he/she gets closer and closer to actually doing it, it becomes obvious to the people around him ("With a gun loaded with guilt you opened their eyes"); they "their" he refers to is are the friends which include Valo himself. The next part i think is metaphorical: "Love preys the living and praises the dead." The "Love" that he speaks of is the people who care for Valo's friend. These people "prey[]" for the friend to live: They're hunting for the friend's salvation (from death and depression). There is also a play on words here... this word also sounds like pray so that fits too. Next, the part about being wed ("In the heart of our hearts by death we were wed") shows that by this friends sadness and suicide all the people around come together (to morn, remember, etc). The chorus shows everyone is "bleeding," both literally and metaphorically. Valo and the others are "bleeding" in the way that they are sad and wishing the best for the friend. The Friend is "bleeding" as a result of suicide or maybe the depression. The end of the chorus (the deepest part of the song IMHO) can have a double meaning: "in hell" can refer to the chaos caused by finding that their friend has died or it can refer to the idea that suicide = afterlife in hell. The next part, what the friend said, is not as absolute as i would like since I don't know the gender of the friend, but the part "And on those words a church was built to keep the pain in" refers to the people who say "oh, youll get over it" or "Just take your medicine and you'll feel better." This way of speaking is not the correct solution and only makes the person feel worse. The end tells that there is a solution but you must not live the life of a nightmare: "If death is the answer to love’s mysteries/Then bleed on my darling to the sound of a dream" Death is not really the answer to her problem: its just a dream.

and it can basically mean whatever you think it does

I agree with some of you that the song is is about the girl about to cheating on him or already be doing and I agree as well that the meaning maybe kind of a Romeo and Juliet story. Right now, this is one of my favourite songs because I am getting divorced from my husband and even when we love each other a lot we cannot stay together any longer due to some differences. This song reminds me a lot to the end of my relationship:
"You got demons to kill withing you screaming" : My husband had a very bad childhood and because of that, he has a lot of problems now and those are all his demons that keep screaming inside of him.
And then all the chorus "Bleed well..." for me is what I'm telling him, to bleed well everything that is still left inside of us since we cannot use it anymore towards each other. Fantastic lyrics!

yea venus doom is for sure the best album since razor blade, which was thier best album
