Lyrics for Safety Bricks as interpreted by sterile.stars

Safety Bricks Lyrics
You can never really start from the start
The ending begins inside of your heart
Well the people, they love to remember your name
It's a hospital bed but it's all just the same

Why did you leave when you were returned
Your past is your future, your future will learn
The crows that fly, we'll try not to find
You do things once, you know you'll do it twice

Still I want kids with safety bricks
And a car that's quick
So we can split

Why did protection burn down your home?
The smoke was so rich that they gave you a throne
We're turning cruel hands into some rice
Three times a charm, three times you pay the price

Still I want kids with safety bricks
And a car that's quick
So we can split
I want kids with safety bricks
And a car that's quick
So we can split

The middle should live inside of your brain
I'll stop for a moment and try to refrain
I'm hoping you love just like when you were a kid
Let's hop a fence and do what we always did

I don't know how Drew does it, but all his songs seem to have an intimate feel. One of my favourites from the album.

Wow, I was just listening to this and thought "this is so Feist-y," so I came here to post that, only to find I'm not the only one who noticed.
I'm kind of relieved that I'm not the only one who thinks so, hahah.

Sooo good.

Very similar sound. Also keep in mind that Drew and Feist have been making music together for almost a decade...that might explain it. SO happy for this album. BSS has really changed to landscape of pop and rock in recent years, and it is great to see people like Kevin Drew and Feist finally getting some attention as individuals. Also, J. Mascis AND Spiral Stairs are on this album, which makes it officially kickass.

You do thing ONCE, you know you'll do it TWICE; THREE times
the char, THREE times you pay the price

You can never really START from the START,
the ENDING begins inside of your heart
The MIDDLE should live inside of your brain.

Interesting: He's got start, middle, and end. One, Twice, Three times. All spoken.

Plus when i listened to this song a little perturbed scenario played in my head about two "live fast die young" couples who have kids, and that they play the responsible adult parents for a while, but refuse to be tied down, so instead they tie up the child to a brick and throw it in the ocean, and jump in their getaway car. I'm wrong, but maybe i'll make a tribute of some sort and use my interpretation.

GREAT ALBUM! Hope he makes another one with BSS.

So I'm not the only one who heard a hint of Feist in this song! Yeah, the bass line reminds me a lot of Past in Present. I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all... they are both terrific songs... I think this one is better, even.

Safety Bricks is a house, presumably to drive the fast car to.
