The Buddha became enlightened under the Bodhi tree.

The song is, I think, about accepting the futility of life and the inevitability of death, and loving in spite of it. 'Please don't scratch me out' is a plea not to God (or any other omnipresent or supernatural force) but, merely, to his lover.

The second half can be viewed as extremely sexual. Intended or not.
The last stanza could very well refer to new life (sperm/semen) that we celebrate inside your mouth - to me, is kinda obviously, giving head and swallowing. It seems to fit his style.
Either way, I absolutely love this song. Love it!
