Lyrics for We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives as interpreted by theTyrant

We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives Lyrics
When you play pass the parcel with human body parts
Somebody might get head, but someone will get hurt
And I'll sing what you like, if you shout it straight back at me

There's red stains all over the place
But they're not blood, they're cherryade
We throw parties, you throw knives
It's all the same if the fizzy drinks are nice

And it's great that you care so much about things
But you left talcum powder all over the bathroom
And yeah, it is great, you can blow her smoke rings
But you wont taste her lips if you do get to kiss her
And it's your party, but I'll die if I want to, I'll die if I want to

There's red stains all over the place
But they're not blood, they're cherryade
We throw parties, you throw knives
It's all the same if the fizzy drinks are nice

The music was okay, but the fresh air was better
And I couldn't tell if the singer's keyboard was a crutch or a synthesizer
But it sounded like he'd broken a limb
Each and every time he pushed a key down or in

There's red stains all over the place
But they're not blood, they're cherryade
We throw parties, you throw knives
It's all the same if the fizzy drinks are nice

(There's red stains all over the place
But they're not blood, they're cherryade
We throw parties, you throw knives
It's all the same if the fizzy drinks are nice
Oh no, it's my mistake, you cut your tongue while taking a sip
It's over, tell his mother, the party is over)

Teen campesinos
Trick or trim
On your driveway
In the middle of August
One of us dressed as a zombie
One of us dressed as a pirate
One of us dressed as a ninja
Four of us dressed as schoolgirls
And I'm starin' you straight in the eyes
I'm shaking my head
And I'm starin' you straight in your eyes

I think the missing line is
"Team Campesinos, Trick or Treating"
Great song.

Aw I do love them.
Every song.
I think this one is just about how people all differenciate. How one thing could be seen different by different groups of friends. It is my friends and mine's party song. I love the bit about cherryade, and how its not blood.
Lovely x

So what or who inspired the lyrics to 'We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives'?

Gareth: It's basically a tirade against cooler-than-thou scenesters really. We're not interested in being part of any scene and we don't buy into that notion of everybody being out to impress everyone else. I suppose it's also about the so-called crazy student types. Although we're all students ourselves we don't empathise with the student stereotypes at all.

Tom: It does reference one musician in particular who shall remain nameless.

It's critique on scenes and scenesters...

My guess is they reference "We Say Party! You Say Die!". hence the tittle.

So you think this verse:

"The music was okay, but the fresh air was better
And I couldn’t tell if the singer’s keyboard was a crutch or a synthesizer
But it sounded like he’d broken a limb
Each and every time he pushed a key down or in"

refers to YSPWSD? Interessssant. Does anyone know the conflict there? Also, what is a crazy student type? Like party-hard, let's-get-drunk stereotype or what?

"And yeah, it is great, you can blow her smoke rings
But you wont taste her lips if you do get to kiss her"

That seems like a reproach of sorts toward such a stereotype...why must you get drunk to do something you want to? Especially if you won't even feel it afterward...a question I've asked myself many times.

"And it’s your party, but I’ll die if I want to..."

"It's my party and I'll die if I want to" is a line from The Hold Steady's Hot Fries. Not sure if that's a reference or not.

but is that not a reference to "It's My Party And I'll Cry If I Want To" by Lesley Gore?

I'd just like to point out that there are seven people in the band. Four men and three women. This has certain amusing implications in the lyrics, if you are inclined to look.

"We throw parties, you throw knives"
"It's your party but I'll die if I want to"

They're definitely referencing You Say Party! We Say Die!
There's no conflict between them, they're actually really good friends. I saw them play live together last week, actually, the two bands were obviously close.

um, correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure this song was out on general release waaaay before they started touring with YSP!WSD! and there is almost certainly no conflict with them... they actually make the cutest little group.

i think the title refers more to the melodrama of teenagers/students and their parties. face it, there's always the bitchy kids in the kitchen and some girl crying in the toilet.

or that's how it is here, anyway.
