Doing the mess around
Push me down into the ground
Taste the hands that drink my body

Fight me in the dark
Wrestle your bones over mine
Into our moonless march come the wizard

Come, the wizard comes
The wizard comes
The wizard comes
The wizard comes

Wants to feel you shake and shooting
He will be our leader
Wants to feel you shake and shooting
He will be our leader

Trembling midnight lands
I travel with the wizard
Drink his blood and he's our leader

Breath songs in my head
Slow arrow flies, are burning
And the trouble we possess
While the sunshine goes on sleeping
The sunshine

Wants to feel you shake and shooting
He will be our leader
Wants to feel you shake and shooting
He will be our leader

Wants to feel you shake and shooting
He will be our leader
Wants to feel you shake and shooting
He will be our leader

My Interpretation:All of Bat For Lashes songs are quite poetic, though it makes meaning difficult to interpret. I won't guess at what meaning she herself was putting in, but the first few verses and the chorus itself seem very sexual. I can't tell if it's consensual or rape, literal or figurative, but this seems to be a pretty clear rundown of foreplay/intercourse. Not sure how that plays into the "leader"/"wizard" bit though. Figurative? Cult leader? Who knows.

General Comment:It's definitely sexual. I'm pretty sure the third line is "taste the hands that drain my body" not "drink". And I don't know if she did this on purpose but the way she emphasizes the word "come" makes me think it could almost be suggesting "cum", at the moment of orgasm.

General Comment:But yeah, now that I've taken an actual look at the lyrics, I'm gonna have to say I agree with spacecadetto's interpretation. Those first five lines are pretty um, hard to see any other way.

General Comment:The first time I heard this song it totally made me think of Andrei Ulmeyda from Killer7. Mainly because of the line "drink his blood and he's our leader", but outside of that, the whole sound of the song just sums up that sequence from the game perfectly, in my opinion.

    General Comment:Maybe it's like...the Wizard is Jesus...

The drinking blood part...and the whole "he's our leader" and the idea of Jesus' healing powers are like that a Wizard would have.

I realize she's said otherwise, but...it kind of makes sense, no?

General Comment:replying to spacecadetto, I think that this song is so beautifully put.
The way she portrays desire as a physical being just makes the song so much more amazing.

and after reading spacecadetto's comment, the song just totally comes into place.

idk what else to say, the song is awesome.
i muchly appreciate her amazing writing ability.

General Comment:To go along with sparrowonthewing, I watched an interview where Natasha sort of explained that it's about the sort of sexual tension and desire between two people and how the wizard is the force that comes and spurs (would-be) lovers into action. I really love the way she ran with that idea, the imagery is so beautiful... I like the sort of ritualistic idea of drinking his blood, becoming a follower of desire. Natasha's head must be such an interesting place, no? :]

General Comment:I think this song is about orgasming. It is her way of describing the way that an orgasm and sexual pleasure enters the nighttime activities of the lovers like a spirit being summoned. It's talking about the way that the lovers offer themselve into the control of this personification of sexual pleasure and their own desires are blended into his final aim of feeling them "shake and shooting"

I love the way that she interprets real experiences in sexuality and in relationships in a way that makes them mystical and beautiful.
