You don't have to be so scared
You don't have to go tonight
I've just got to hold on tight
For one hell of a ride

'Cause lost it all just now
To the nights that left you out
So we'll let this go somehow
But you're gonna be proud, so proud

And I just needed you to pick me up
Like you did when we were younger
When the lightning and the thunder
Had me clinging to your heart
For someone to lift me up
When I'm down and I'm forgotten
You'll forever be my father
And I'll be saving tears in jars for this one, for this one

And how can I fit all these words
Into such a simple verse
It's the last time that I'll speak
So listen to me, please

And I just needed you to pick me up
Like you did when we were younger
When the lightning and the thunder
Had me clinging to your heart

For someone to lift me up
'Cause when I'm down and I'm forgotten
You'll forever be my father
And I'll be saving tears in jars for this one

For this one

And I just needed you to pick me up
Like you did when we were younger
When the lightning and the thunder
Had me clinging to your heart
For someone to lift me up
When I'm down and I'm forgotten
You'll forever be my father
And I'll be saving tears in jars for this one

General Comment:My father died on August 28, 2011 after being in the hospital for two and a half years. I’m only 17 now (16 at the time), and he was 62. I quoted this song when I did the eulogy at his funeral.
I feel like the lyrics are so simple, yet so powerful and emotional.
I cry every time I listen to it, but it comforts me to have a song that I can listen to that will relate to how I feel about my dad.
I also learned it on piano and recorded myself singing it. (:

    And the correct lyrics are:

You don’t have to be so scared.
You don’t have to go tonight.
I just need to hold on tight for one hell of a ride.
And we lost it all just now
To the nights that left you out.
So we’ll let this go somehow,
    But you’re gonna be proud.
    (So proud)

And I just needed you to pick me up
Like you did when we were younger,
When the lightning and the thunder had me clinging to your heart
For someone to lift me up
When I’m down and I’m forgotten
    You’ll forever be my father,
And I’ll be saving tears in jars for this one.

How can I fit all these words
    Into such a simple verse?
It’s the last time that we’ll speak
    So listen to me.
    (Please)

I just needed you to pick me up
Like you did when we were younger
When the lightning and the thunder had me clinging to your heart
    Someone to lift me up
When I’m down and I’m forgotten
    You’ll forever be my father.
I’ll be saving tears in jars for this one.

I just needed you to lift me up.
    (Oh)
Oh, I just needed (lift me up).
    (Oh)
And I just needed you to lift me up.
Like you did when we were younger
When the lightning and the thunder had me clinging to your heart
For someone to lift me up when I’m down and I’m forgotten
    You’ll forever be my father,
And I’ll be saving tears in jars for this one.

Did you know that you’re my heart?
And it hurts to be apart.
And this cut, it hurts so deep.
    So sing me to sleep.

General Comment:My dad just got diagnosed with having basically no immune system (like a person on chemo.) I'm only 20 and he's already 61, I've got a feeling this songs gonna stick by my side for a while. This is what I think a real artist does: create a piece that anyone can relate to and interpret on their own terms. Jason Lancaster is an incredible musician, and an inspirational person.

General Comment:yeah the backup girl singer, if you listen close enough, sounds a lot hayley williams.. i love this song, live version and the recording. the live version is great cuz its acoustic but the studio/album recording with the piano is a whole different dimension in a way, completely diff dynamics

General Comment:Does anyone know for sure if it's "But you're gonna be proud" or "I'm sure God will be proud" ?
Imo it sounds like "But you're gonna be proud".

But yeah lyrics are kinda self-explanatory.

    Beautiful song <3
Love when the snares kick in<3

General Comment:I'm pretty sure that the girl singing is his sister and the other guy singing is his brother. He also has a band called Stages and Stereos.

I saw Go Radio live a few months back, and this song is even better live. I got all teary eyed lol.
But seriously Jason Lancaster is like my hero for his amazing lyrical and musical abilities.
