Skeleton, you are my friend
But you are made of bone
And you have got no flesh and blood
Running through you to help protect the bone
Skeleton, we have been friends for years
And you have seen me through some trials
And tribulations and some tears
But everybody thinks I'm weird
And I should have known that it wouldn't be long
Until you, you've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention and a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I don't know what to do
Skeleton, we are so close
But you have got no body
So, why do you insist on wearing clothes?
Skeleton, when we were young, it was easy
Even though the other kids, they would tease me
I was only seven, I had you but now I'm twenty two
And now it's different when I take you out
And you, you've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention and a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I don't know what to do
And sometimes at night
I dream of the most terrible things
I take, take a hammer and I creep out of bed
And I raise it high and I smash your head
Fibular and tubular and ribs and cages, too
In fact, while I'm here, I'll smash the whole of you
But skeleton, you are my friend
And I could never bring your life to an end
Yes, skeleton, you are, you are my friend
And I'll be there for you until the end
And even though when I take you out
You've got me, you've got me
Standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention and a need for explanation
I could, I could never let you go
And that is all I know
And that is all I know
And that is all I, that is all I know
And that is all I know, know
But you are made of bone
And you have got no flesh and blood
Running through you to help protect the bone

I think this song is about a girl who has a friend who she will always be there for no matter what troubles and awkward moments being with that friend causes her.
Skeleton, you are my friend
But you are made of bone
And you have got no flesh and blood running through you
To help you protect the bone
"Anorexia is her friend but it's just a disease, so it has no flesh and no blood"
Yes, Skeleton, we have been friends for years
And you have seen me through some trials and tribulations and some tears
But everybody thinks I'm weird
"The disease has been there with her for years and every time she was sad and/or had problems she would turn to the anorexia to make her feel better. People thinks she is weird because of how skinny she is"
And I should have known
That it wouldn't be long until you
You've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention
And a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I dunno what to do
"She's out with friends or someone (Not sure who) and the anorexia has come out whether it's her friends trying to give her an intervention or she's being made fun of in public. But she's not letting go of the disease, she is just wondering what she is going to do about this situation."
Skeleton, we are so close
But you have got no body
So why do you insist on wearing clothes?
Skeleton, when we were young it was easier
Even though the other kids, they would tease me
I was only seven I had you, but now I'm 22
"The disease is in her mind. Once again it's not a human. When she was younger it was easier because she was little then and the disease had not given that big of an effect on her but she was only 7 then and now she's older and doing it that long causes physical problems which makes it harder to hide"
And now it's different
When I take you out and you
You've got me standing in an awkward postition
With unwanted attention
And a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I dunno what to do
"Same thing as before, a possible intervention"
And sometimes, at night
I dream of the most terrible things
I take a hammer and I creep out of bed
And I raise it high, and I smash your head
Fibular and tibular and ribs and cages, too
In fact, while I'm here, I'll smash the whole of you
"She is committing suicide in her dreams. She will see herself getting out of bed and being in her own room, then she starts to smash herself up with the hammer until she is dead."
Smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash
"The crackling she does with her voice on this part makes me think it's her insinuating that she is crying after the dream or with the though of the dream"
But...Skeleton, you are my friend
And I could never bring your life to an end
Yes, Skeleton, you are my friend
And I will be theere for you until the end
"That disease has been there forever and she knows she couldn't give it up after having it that long so she'll be anorexic until the "end" (death)"
And even though when I take you out you've got me
You've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention
And a need for explanation
I could never let you go
And that is all I know
"And even though people are wondering what's going on and/or how/why she is so skinny she doesn't care because she can't let the disease go, and she KNOWS that she'll never be able to"
"And sometimes, at night
I dream of the most terrible things
I take a hammer and I creep out of bed
And I raise it high, and I smash your head
Fibular and tibular and ribs and cages, too
In fact, while I'm here, I'll smash the whole of you"
part, I have always thought of it as considering recovery. To an anorexic(or me, at least), recovery is terrifying, so they don't want to give Ana up, and instead of trying to get rid of the disorder they hold on tighter.
Sometimes, for the awkward position part, I think it might mean bulimia/bulimic behaviours.
Well, that's my opinion, anyway
But you are made of bone
And you have got no flesh and blood running through you
To help you protect the bone
I think this song is about a girl who has one of those friends who has been around since childhood. This friend is the 'skeleton' because he knows about all the skeletons in her closet and he is on in himself. Nothing has ever really happened between them because she doesnt like him like that.
Yes, Skeleton, we have been friends for years
And you have seen me through some trials and tribulations and some tears
But everybody thinks I'm weird
Same thing.. about him knowing her forever etc
And I should have known
That it wouldn't be long until you
You've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention
And a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I dunno what to do
So, like many good friends they go to a party or something together and he giver her some 'unwanted attention' and she has to explain how he really is a cool guy but she doesnt like him more than that.
Skeleton, we are so close
But you have got no body
So why do you insist on wearing clothes?
Skeleton, when we were young it was easier
Even though the other kids, they would tease me
I was only seven I had you, but now I'm 22
No body means no physical attraction to her. He isn't a real option for her and so doesnt really 'exist' to her and so its absurd that he 'wears clothes' like the other guys. She has had him as a friend since .
she was 7 and their friendship was innocent and simple
And now it's different
When I take you out and you
You've got me standing in an awkward postition
With unwanted attention
And a need for explanation
And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I dunno what to do
And sometimes, at night
I dream of the most terrible things
I take a hammer and I creep out of bed
And I raise it high, and I smash your head
Fibular and tibular and ribs and cages, too
In fact, while I'm here, I'll smash the whole of you
Im not sure whether the smathing is hurting him by being someone else or soemthing even though she knows how he feels or whether by smashing his bones she will allow him to escape the box she has put him inot. maybe her subconcious dreams of them being more than friends, the 'terrible thing'
Smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash
But...Skeleton, you are my friend
And I could never bring your life to an end
Yes, Skeleton, you are my friend
And I will be theere for you until the end
But he is her friend so nothing will happen
And even though when I take you out you've got me
You've got me standing in an awkward position
With unwanted attention
And a need for explanation
I could never let you go
And that is all I know
She cant risk destroying their friendship in persuit of something ore which may or may not work out.
If it does refer to anorexia in the past or present, it would be a "skeleton in the closet", wouldn't it? People with eating disorders don't exactly publicise it, so it could be both.
Well that's what I get from it. :)
"Yes, Skeleton, we have been friends for years
And you have seen me through some trials and tribulations and some tears
But everybody thinks I'm weird"
The last line is obv,
"Even though the other kids, they would tease me
I was only seven I had you, but now I'm 22"
Everytime you look at the lyrics, just replace 'Skeleton' with Imaginary friend, and the ong makes sense :)
"When I take you out and you
You've got me standing in an awkward postition"
"And it's not that I'm letting go of you
But I dunno what to do"
I think i like the song more now because instead of just a story about a weird girl with a toy skeleton, it makes it more meaningful. I love deep songs.
I didn't think though that it could be because of a disability or condition, just because of her lack in self confidence
