Lyrics for #27 as interpreted by Ballashoes

#27 Lyrics
I've been high, and i've been down
My head in the clouds and my hands in the ground
In the arms of a woman, I found my way home
In the arms of a woman, I had been lost

When I'm so lost that this losing feel like dying
I hope you'll be by me then
When I'm so lost that this losing feel like dying
I hope you'll be by me then

As a young man, I was afraid
Of my life, what would I make?
I would make love, what will I hate?
What bittersweet road will I take to my grave?

And if I'm old 'til this oldness have me dying
I hope you'll be by me then
Oh, when I'm old 'til this oldness has me dying
I hope you'll be by me then
I hope you'll be by me then

Sick of you, and I'm sick of me
I'm sick of wars, and I'm sick of peace
I'm sick of sound 'til I'm sick of silence
Oh, sick of the darkness 'til I'm sick of the light

When I'm so sick that this sickness has me dying
I hope you'll be by me then
I hope you'll be by me then
Oh, when I'm so sick that this sickness have me dying
I hope you'll be by me then

Once, as a boy, I saw what happened
I saw them beat him down to the cold, cold ground
Watched those big boys beat that man down
I was too weak to make a stand

When I'm so weak that this weakness feels like dying
I hope you'll be by me then
When I'm so weak that this weakness feels like dying
I hope you'll be by me then

When I'm old 'til this oldness feels like dying
I hope you'll be by me then

So I will live as I see fit
There will be those who will not like it
But in the arms of a woman, I found my way home
So to the arms of a woman, I will go

And if I'm old 'til this oldness has me dying
I hope you'll be by me then

Well, I had the priviledge of hearing this song live last night!
I think that it's a song about love, and what you're going to do with your life. He's singing about how he found himself in the arms of a woman (his wife, I presume), and that's when he finally felt at home. Also, he sings about not being able to take a stand, and probably wishing that he could.

I just heard this on Youtube, I must have listened to it 900 times. I love the overall sound of the song. I think of it as a young child seeing all this horrible things in life and not being able to do anything about it. The arms of a good woman is the boys mama where everything is ok.

I saw this song live too! Incredible.
Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but I thought that this song was just about having someone to stand by you and support you through anything. It's about not being entirely sure where your life is leading you, it's about making your own decisions ("I will live as I see fit"), and sometimes this may involve being wrong, or contradicting yourself ("Sick of you, and I'm sick of me/I'm sick of wars, and I'm sick of peace...."). However, it's also about going through life with someone who will be by you through it all and defend you. At least this is what I got out of it...let me know what you think.

I personally feel that the woman he speaks of is the presence of Love and the projetion of Love trough you. Only through Love can one accept one another for how their ego explains them to themselves, and therefore love eternally and unconditionally.

Dave often mocks the Christian God and embraces a general sense of good he expresses as "Her". This is a Motherly sense of Love. Warmth. Well being. Love each other equally. This is the only way to feel satisfaction and contentment in each moment of every day. Identify an ego for exactly what it is. Imaginary and irrelevant, as is each religion where the politics there in exclude or seperate ANYONE from your endless LOVE...

Much Love to all those who give Love... ;-)

I love this song.

What will I be? Who will be mine? What will be the end of me? Dave so often deals with these crucial life questions but always seems to come out with some resolve, in this case to return to the arms of a woman.

just heard this song in live in st louis a couple weeks ago and it is becoming one of my favorites.

mmoore you're right dave is agnostic. i dont think he neccesarily mocks god but mocks the people who believe blindly in a god. in eh-hee he really does this.

I feel the song is about depression.
As you get older and think of ways you could have done things different, it's hard to finally realize you can't go back and change anything. The decision you make can make you feel weak.
If you then have depression it's compounded to where you don't want anything in your life. Everything hurts.
But that's just my opinion.
