Lyrics for Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) as interpreted by IllusoryFreedom

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics
Another turning point
A fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist
directs you where to go
So make the best of this test
and don't ask why
It's not a question
But a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time
of your life

So take the photographs
and stillframes in your mind
Hang it on a shelf
in good health and good time

Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial
for what it's worth
it was worth alll the while

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time
of your life

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time
of your life

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time
of your life

Like said before, this can be taken by people in so many ways.
I think that it's more of a good-bye/farewell kind of song.
Depending on how you percieve certain things, this can be an I'll miss you, but we have to move on kind of thing, or it can be considered a sort of sarcastic shove in the face.
Just wanted to throw that in, because I know that most people probably wouldn't.
And the wrong title is driving me crazy...

One of the greatest GD songs... the real name was GOOD RIDDANCE ... it can be about break up but I think it's best to play for the last day of school... because of this:"Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road;
Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go." and "It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life."

this song makes me feel unbelieveably happy. odd, yes, but the title is good riddance; getting rid of the bad stuff. leaving all the bad stuff behind while starting all over again. yes, you are leaving behind memories that were good, but you get to start all over again.
i dont know if i expressed this right, it doesnt sound too 'beautiful' but its how i feel. this song isnt depressing at all.

So make the best of this test

OMG~sh! this song has so many good memories with me. I was in the school play and good rddance was our theme song. It's made us all cry thinking of all the memories. The play was called magnolia and it was a comedy loosley based on Gone with the Wind! It was so much fun but i'm gonna miss the friends i made. My friends Camron and Jacci will be seniors this fall and when the years up Becca(ellen) and I are gonna bawl our eyes out! Well gotta go bye!

Hey guys, I think this song's called Good Riddance. In case that hasn't been beaten into your heads already by several people thinking they're clever by mentioning that the name is wrong when it's already been mentioned above them. I guess it's simply expecting too much to think that the people on here would be smart enough to read any comments before they leave their own. Oh, and I almost forgot. I usually don't listen to Green Day, but I really like this song. Fairly simple both melodically (great violin, though) and lyrically, but quite effective nevertheless. It puts me into a rather melancholy and nostalgic mood as I think of days long gone.

It's similar in structure to Straylight Run's Existentialism on Prom Night.

The "control your own destiny" aspect.

I think that the's song's meaning is clear - but I also think that it doesn't really matter. It's just a relaxing song, and the violin in it is absolutely beautiful.

The song was originally called good riddance; Billie sings time of your life so the title became good riddance (time of your life).

It's obvious that the song's about someone that you can't stand and you want them out of your life.

At my cousin's highschool graduation, the valedictorian played this song during his speech.
He must be stupid, because he thinks it's about missing someone and hoping they had a fun time.
If I ever have kids, they're not going to that school because it will make them dumber.

here's the lyrics for the original version that's on the brainstew/jaded single.

Another turning point
A fork stuck in the road

So make the best of this test
and don't ask why
It's not a question
But a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable

I hope you had the time
of your life

So take the photographs
and stillframes in your mind
Hang it on a shelf
in good health and good time

Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial

it was worth alll the while

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time
of your life

So make the best of this test
and don't ask why
It's not a question
But a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time
of your life

this version is better, because you can here billie and his guitar better.

This is one of my favourite songs ever. It has a few meanings to me. First and foremost it's about splitting up with someone but I think it can also be about celebrating someone's life, leaving a group of friends (like the transition from high school to university or college) or thinking about someone you miss. But whatever you think it means there's no denying that it's an awesome song!

It's about reflection. Those times you reminisce about your past mistakes and joys and see that it is time to move on. It's about moving onto a new chapter in your life. It has a tinge of melancholy with an underlying sweetness and optimism.
It reminds me of a Nietzsche quote. I'm not sure if this is the exact quote, "That was life? Alright! Once more!"
