The road turned into a snake
It looked in my veins and said
"It's in your blood"
That's when I tried to run
But it was way too dark
Got scared and ran into your arms
Oh, sweet chemical predicament
Can't stop, can't change the evident

Predisposed to forget the best part
The story where the hero dies without regard
Made sure that the needle is clean
When I let myself fall asleep
And all I kept was a piece of your picture
It slipped from my fingers
When I slid into my dreams

It's not as deep as it seems
And unfair as it may be
I'm just here to remind you
Remind you not to forget to remember me (x2)

I know you know how it feels
To make a clean break
My bones are your bones
My home is your home
You must be so confused
I got scared and ran away from you
Oh, sweet divine predicament
I can't hide, I can't change the evident

Redisposed to trust a photograph
To portray the way you used to laugh
Do you recall the day you wed?
Such a radiant bride
You couldn't wait to see your first born
Take his very first steps
Then you smiled at him
'Cause you thought he looked like me

It's not as deep as it seems
And unfair as it may be
I'm just here to remind you
Remind you not to forget to remember me (x2)

Now that I've dodged your questions so much
I don't possess the strength to answer straight
And no, I'm not afraid
At least not to die
I'm afraid to live and not remember why
Sweet chemical indifference
I can't stop, can't change the evidence

Predisposed to perpetual sickness
I refuse to let you all be witness
Make the sure the needle is clean
When you let me go back to sleep
And situate the piece of her picture
Underneath my fingers
It protects me in my dreams

It's not as deep as it seems
And unfair as it may be
I'm just here to remind you
Remind you not to forget to remember me (x2)

General Comment:it is about Alzheimer's!! I mean lapse?!?! People with Alzheimer's can have periods where they remember things, then they lapse back into forgetting. "I'm just here to remind you not to forget to remember me" Someone trying to remind someone with Alzheimer's not to forget them!

Song Meaning:i think that this song is definitely written about his grandmother. it makes complete sense. the beautiful thing about Envy's lyrics is they're up for interpretation, like most poetry, the lyrics can be put into many different situations. the first time i listened to this song i immediately thought of my first love. how my child should be with my first love and how i want to remind them to remember me.

I got scared and ran away from you
    Oh, sweet divine predicament
    I can't hide, I can't change the evident
    - i got scared and ran from the relationship but i can't change that it was a mistake and i will always love you.

after reading the other comments i think almost everyones interpretation makes sense, although i still believe the song was written about his grandmother.

General Comment:Well, i have another opinion about this song's meaning. But i may be completely wrong. For me, the whole song is brian's grandmother's last actions. In the first verse, she says her last words to her husband, she remembers when they find out her disease and that even if she is going to forget everything, she will keep his picture.

The road turned into a snake
It looked in my veins and said
    "It's in your blood"
That's when I tried to run
But it was way too dark
Got scared and ran into your arms
    Oh, sweet chemical predicament
Can't stop, can't change the evident

Predisposed to forget the best part
The story where the hero dies without regard
Made sure that the needle is clean
When I let myself fall asleep
And all I kept was a piece of your picture
    It slipped from my fingers
When I slid into my dreams

Second verse, she may talk to Brian's mother, remembering how beautiful she was when she got married. And that she was releaved when Brian arrived in their lives.
I know you know how it feels
    To make a clean break
    My bones are your bones
    My home is your home
    You must be so confused
I got scared and ran away from you
    Oh, sweet divine predicament
    I can't hide, I can't change the evident

    Redisposed to trust a photograph
To portray the way you used to laugh
Do you recall the day you wed?
    Such a radiant bride
You couldn't wait to see your first born
    Take his very first steps
    Then you smiled at him
'Cause you thought he looked like me

And in the last verse, she is maybe saying that she doesn't want to live like this, that she is not afraid to die and that she want them to let her die because of morphine or just because of an attack during a surgery operation. Then she may say that they will be with her thanks to their photographs and that she will die happy.

Now that I've dodged your questions so much
I don't possess the strength to answer straight
    And no, I'm not afraid
    At least not to die
I'm afraid to live and not remember why
    Sweet chemical indifference
    I can't stop, can't change the evidence

    Predisposed to perpetual sickness
I refuse to let you all be witness
Make the sure the needle is clean
When you let me go back to sleep
And situate the piece of her picture
    Underneath my fingers
It protects me in my dreams.

PS: It's just my point of vue, it can just be a crappy analysis but i felt the lyrics that way.

    General Comment:alzheimer's disease

I dunno it just hit me. Maybe he was close to his grandma. And she got alzheimer's and that he was afraid he would lose her and that he hopes that when she passes away she wont be permanantly effected by it. The part "im just here to remind you" and "I'm not afraid to die, i'm afraid to live and not remember why" is him saying he doesnt want to got through the same pain (since its a genetic thing) and he's upset right now and it seems like hes just there to remind her who he is. The baby thing maybe it was his dad and when he talks to his grandma she says that he looks like the boy in the picture(the picture of his grandma's son?)

It may sound crazy or jus confusing, but everyones talking about a diease and other parts of the lyrics make it semm like it may be alzheimers.

Song Meaning:My theory, based on the lyrics anyway, is someone being diagnosed with a terminal illness. The song seems to follow him from diagnosis to the end of his life; "it looked in my veins and said its in your blood", "can't hide can't change the evident" seems to be the point of acceptance, the verse that begins "I know you know how it feels to make a clean break" seems to be him ending his relationship even though he still loves her(my bones are your bones my home is your home) the line "you must be so confused I got scared and ran away from you" eludes that perhaps he didn't tell her he was sick, and then moving on to deciding to die rather than suffer "make sure the needle is clean when you let me fall asleep" also he seems to want to hide his illness "predisposed to perpetual sickness, I refuse to let you all be witness" and all he wants before he dies is his to see her picture. It seems like a goodbye and an apology for all the unanswered questions he's left his loved ones with. The heroin theory is good too but I dont like it as much, it would make the writer seem self indulgent and whiny, but a dying person creates sympathy. Whatever the meaning the lyrics are beautiful, and I don't usually dig this genre of music but I really like this song.

Memory:It reminds me of Kurt Cobain:

The road turned into a snake
It looked in my veins and said
    "It's in your blood"

    Speaking about the heroine, perhaps.

That's when I tried to run
But it was way too dark
Got scared and ran into your arms
    Oh, sweet chemical predicament
Can't stop, can't change the evident

And that's when the relapse happened

Predisposed to forget the best part
The story where the hero dies without regard
Made sure that the needle is clean

    His suicide.

When I let myself fall asleep
And all I kept was a piece of your picture
    It slipped from my fingers
When I slid into my dreams

A picture of Courtney and their daughter

It's not as deep as it seems
And unfair as it may be
I'm just here to remind you
Remind you not to forget to remember me (x2)

    His suicide, again.

I know you know how it feels
    To make a clean break

Because he tried to quit heroine, and make a clean break, to keep Francis, but then relapsed.

    My bones are your bones
    My home is your home
    You must be so confused
I got scared and ran away from you
    Oh, sweet divine predicament
    I can't hide, I can't change the evident

Speaking about Courtney, after the death.

    Redisposed to trust a photograph
To portray the way you used to laugh

    Speaking of the photograph again.

Do you recall the day you wed?
    Such a radiant bride

    Talking about their marriage. Duh.

You couldn't wait to see your first born
    Take his very first steps
    Then you smiled at him
'Cause you thought he looked like me

    Francis

It's not as deep as it seems
And unfair as it may be
I'm just here to remind you
Remind you not to forget to remember me (x2)

    Again, his suicide and note.

Now that I've dodged your questions so much
I don't possess the strength to answer straight

His fans and family asking why he committed suicide.

    And no, I'm not afraid
    At least not to die
I'm afraid to live and not remember why

He stated something similar to that, being suicidal and all.

    Sweet chemical indifference
    I can't stop, can't change the evidence

    Speaking of his addiction again.

    Predisposed to perpetual sickness
I refuse to let you all be witness

After not doing heroine for a while, it's a fact that you would get sick. And, in his case, he would wake up, force himself to eat because he'd be starving, and then throw it up again. Wouldn't you not anyone to see that?

Make the sure the needle is clean
When you let me go back to sleep

The needle, being filled with heroine.

And situate the piece of her picture
    Underneath my fingers
It protects me in my dreams

    Picture of Francis and Courtney.

It's not as deep as it seems
And unfair as it may be
I'm just here to remind you
Remind you not to forget to remember me (x2)

    His suicide. Blah blah.

Of course, that may be the first thing that comes to mind for me, because I'm a diehard fan of him. I mean, it obvious that they didn't write it for him, but I like the way that I put it.
