Up in smoke, pop goes the culture
The tension blew it up
We're choking from a bleeding ulcer
We eventually threw it up
So what went wrong? Where's the voice of reason?
It's long gone; we lost it long ago
Apathy plus ice fill the void of motivation
I can hardly breathe at all

[Chorus]
Confusion's all I see
Frustration surrounds me
Solution: bid farewell
Sedation - what the hell?

I broke the mirror to the past
To find what I was looking for
The bleeding heart of broken glass
Is all I found and nothing
More regrets short of no correction
Paid my debts to anxiety
The iron lung collapsed from the pressure and the swelling
I can hardly breathe at all

[Chorus x 2]

Dead-end roads
And warning signs
Destination nowhere
In sight
So!

Divided we stand
Together we fall
There isn't a God
That can save us all
So don't pray on your knees
Just beg on your hands
There is no belief
In this promised land

Divided we stand
Together we fall
There's no God
That can save us all
So don't pray on your knees
Just beg on your hands
There is no belief
In this promised land
There's no belief

[Chorus x 2]

General Comment:Apathy plus ice fill the void of motivation isn't right

It's "Apathy plus-sized filled the void of motivation"

and in the chorus he says "Sediction, what the hell?" not "Sedation"

General Comment:deryck isn't saying that there isnt a god, what hes saying is that people shudnt be prayign and assuming that some ultimate being is gonna fix everything and take care of us when something goes wrong, hes saying that we have to start making a stand and doing something about our problmes instead of trying to pray them away becuase we arent doing nething

He explores the disintergration of society. Its a stark contrast to "together we stand, divided we fall." The use of this contrast creaes a hysterical and dystopian society, emphaizing the future of society. This song is a heavy critism of modern society. I reckon he uses allusions to god as a veichle to develop a pyrrhic struggles and victories of modern society. We are a world consumed in war and hate which is slowly corrupting us. Although he argues that there may be 'no belief', i assume hes encouraging people to take a step back and look at the true/whole picture. In order to change anything, we cant keep on emotionally removing ourselves from our problems and struggles. We can't really pray either we gotta do sumthing to fix it up :)

He means that as a society, we fail. We can't stand to be together and we'll fall apart while trying since we're so intolerant of each other, especially with religion (thus the "There's no God that can save us all"). Even though everyone is praying, they don't really believe in what they're doing and just act like hypocrites, and we should all just be begging for forgiveness instead of praying for happiness or something along those lines.

General Comment:What does he mean exactly with the lines:
    Divided we stand
    Together we fall
    There's no God
    That can save us all
So don't pray on your knees
    Just, beg on your hands
    There is no belief
    In this promised land
    There's no belief?

Does he actually mean he believes this, or is it to show how confused we are in these modern times? There's so many references about God on this album, there is almost at least one in every song. What is going on lately? Panic! At the Disco was the first one I noticed who had a decent reference to God and themes. Fall Out Boy's last album does as well. And now this one. And I don't really know how to take any of them. Also, on Sum 41's last album, Chuck, it seemed to me that Derrek, unknowingly to himself, was screaming out of Christ on every single song. It seems to me that everything that my generation is so "confusion and frustration" is because they don't have a good understanding, nor a good relationship with who Christ is.
