Wanted: single F
Under 33
Must enjoy the sun
Must enjoy the sea
Sought by single M
Mrs. Destiny
Send photo to address
Is it you and me?

Reply to single M:
My name is Caroline
Cell phone number here
Call if you have the time
28 and bored
Grieving over loss
Sorry to be heavy
But heavy is the cost
Heavy is the cost

Reply to Caroline:
Thanks so much for response
These things can be scary
Not always what you want
How about a drink?
The St. Jude club at noon?
I'll phone you first I guess
I hope I see you soon

I never got your name
I assume you're 33
Your voice, it sounded kind
I hope that you like me
When you see my face
I hope that you don't laugh
I'm not a film star beauty
I'll send a photograph
I hope that you don't laugh

Note to single M:
Why did you not show up?
I waited for an hour
I finally gave up
I thought once that I saw you
I thought that you saw me
I guess we'll never meet now
It wasn't meant to be
It wasn't mean to be
I was sure you saw me
But it wasn't meant to be

Wanted: single F
Under 33
Must enjoy the sun
Must enjoy the sea
Sought by single M
Nothing too heavy
Send photo to address
Is it you or me?
Is it you or me?
Is it you or me?
Is it you or me?

General Comment:I believe there's a problem with the song. It was probably written about a 65 year old male trying to get an "under 33" year old. Perhaps if he'd stop thinking with his willy and ego instead of his brain and heart, he just might find happiness. And I bet he drives a red Corvette with the top down ;) Gotta love the comb over! Just joshing; it's a good song.

General Comment:Firstly, I think the instrumental pieces after Caroline's messages to Single M are intentional, he's in no hurry to reply. Whereas Caroline's instant replies reveal vulnerability, a bit of desperation and some insecurities.

Single M has mixed emotions. After Caronline's first reply to him, you feel he's trying to reassure her in his message, but at the same time, voicing some of his own concerns "These things can be scary / Not always what you want". This can be taken two ways: 1. he's a player and is trying to bring her around. 2. he has his own issues. But most likely, a bit of both. He ends his reply to her with "I'll call you first I guess" ensuring (in his mind) that he remains in control of things and dictates how fast/far things progress.

Caroline replies again, revealing even more vulnerabilities and a lot of insecurities. The fast paced nature of her reply pretty much reveals all her cards to him whereas he's a lot more guarded with his emotions and personal information throughout (intentionally so, obviously). Single M realizes she expects him to help her overcome these issues and he isn't able to reassure her this time for whatever reason. Maybe he feels guilty, that he took on more than he can chew. This is obviously a woman who pours her heart out without the least bit of motivation, so he isn't sure how to handle her.

He doesn't reply to her the second time, but he does go to their meeting spot. He recognizes her from the picture she sent him, they make eye contact, she doesn't know it's him (can't be sure) but she feels it all the same. He can see so much emotion/hurt in her eyes, and he knows that he's made a mistake, that he can't use her for his own (possibly selfish) motives (sex, casual relationship).

Caroline's last message to him, after she was stood up, comes across more angry than hurt at first, but then crumbles apart near the end where she feels they made a connection and could have been, but didn't happen.

Both of the characters come with their issues, the man comes across as a commitment-phobic (or possibly a guy burnt by another woman) whereas the woman reveals she's vulnerable and trying to overcome hurt that was probably caused by someone like Single M in the first place. In the end though, Single M is left battling his own demons with, "Is it you or me?" -- who's to blame for his inability to see things through? Was it him or her?

It's amazing how such a simple song can convey such powerful and strong emotions from both sides. Heart breaking but earth shatteringly stunning.

General Comment:I am surprised how many people actually denying the fat girl thing, being all romantics about it.
Since when people go on a "blind" date, and got cold feet because you found that the girl is too EMOTIONAL by one look in her eyes, and think i don't want to be in a relationship with this girl because she gonna be too emotionally heavy and it gonna go down badly.
The first thing you need to consider is the LOOK of the girl 99 times out of 100, you people need to get real.

Song Meaning:I saw a video and he showed her up because it was his ex. At the beginning she does say that she's grieving over loss. And she's saying "Sorry to be heavy" because she feels she's being I guess over emotional is a way to put it.

General Comment:I think the is it you or me part is him wondering if he's looking for someone or just to find himself again. The part of himself that loved the sun and sea.

General Comment:omg people is not about physical weight!!! there are other meanings for heavy and it is obvious meaning heavy as in emotional, she did send him a photo of her and if he didnt think she was pretty then why did he meet up with her?? and remember at the start she said she is 'griefing of a loss sorry to be heavy but heavy is the cost, heavy is the cost'meaning there is a price to pay coz she's feeling really down for example there's this girl who feels really upset beause of a tragic event and people around her choose not to be freinds with her beause of her emotions and because she is always upset and not moving on and letting go and they don't want her to drag them down along with her, and remember the man in the song changed his ad to 'nothing to heavy' because he didn't want someone emotional and remember his ad did say 'must enjoy the sun must enjoy the sea' but the girl cant if she is feeling heavy all the time and plus the other meaning could be about the man maybe he's the one feeling heavy because in the end it says 'is it you or me' over and over again

General Comment:I actually had a chance to speak with Stars, in person recently, and asked them to please clarify on this song and I was informed that the ad writer does not even show up for the proposed meeting and this song in NO WAY has a subliminal undertone about physical weight. They told me that this misunderstanding is common place amongst Americans, especially, and the term "weight" in the song, is in reference to emotional baggage, and the male's intention to not incur any by engaging in a relationship.
Although I did not ask this question while recording, the rest of the interview can be found here: examiner.com/music-in-orlando/… . Please check it out and enjoy!

General Comment:First off, I'm assuming he didn't send her a picture? Maybe he was really insecure and unattractive. She was at least brave enough to send a picture.

These things happen though. I had a similar experience, I did actually meet the person though. We had a good time at a concert but when I texted her the next day she said "I had a fine time but i'm not interested in hanging out" I asked if I did something bad and all she said was "your pictures weren't accurate." Talk about OUCH. so I really feel this song on a "personal" level.

General Comment:This song should be renamed "no fat chicks..."
I've been listening to it repeatedly to try to find an alternate reason for him to stand her up and then add "nothing too heavy" to his ad, and I can find no other logical answer for him standing her up.
