Were you honest when you said
"I could never leave your bed"
Wake me up and let me know you're alive
And will you fall in love again
Is the scent slowly spreading
I've been answering machines all night
And are the doctors dancing in
While the ambulances sing
Another boy without a sharper knife
The moment, that's where I
Kill the conversation

Wrap this up
With a knife that loves to feel
How do you know how deep to go before it's real
Take me home
Can I even complicate your breathing
I guess I'm just your average boy
This is me

With a knife in the back
And a grip on the grass
It's cold and I don't want to be here
I guess I'm never comfortable or situational
Are we losing or beginning
To try a new life without you
The moment, that's where I
Kill the conversation
Wrap this up

With a lie that I'm enjoying every minute with myself
And she could make hell feel just like home
So I'm never leaving her alone
But if your lightning lips aren't mine
Then I don't know the awkward stranger to my right
But she's crying
I only need one hand to drive
When you're with me
You are my getaway
Oh no

And don't you ever feel alone
And don't you wish you were home
Cut the lust tonight
Alright, alright tell me why my
Little Mona Lisa told a lie

Do you want me
Do you want to let me know that you're OK
A diamond gold ring
Customized to cut your circulation
But I couldn't let you go
No, I never let you go my dear
So keep talking cause I love to hear your voice
Your voice again

My Interpretation:"Were you honest when you said
"I could never leave your bed"
And will you fall in love again"
"I've been answering machines all night."

To me, this is about a boy wanting to know if his girlfriend is cheating on him. It's pretty clear. He's asking her if she's being honest when she says that she couldn't betray him and sleep with another / love somebody else. Yet, she won't answer his calls and he thinks she's cheating on him.

"And are the doctors dancing in
    While the ambulances sing
Another boy without a sharper knife"
"With a knife that loves to feel
How do you know how deep to go before it's real"

This is a threat to suicide. The boy self inflicts, but his knife isn't sharp enough to kill, which calls the ambulances.

"But if your lightning lips aren't mine
Then I don't know the awkward stranger to my right
    But she's crying"

A contradiction. He doesn't even know her anymore if she's cheating on him (because if you cheat on somebody, it involes a Hell of a lot of lies.) Yet, he still feels troubled when she cries.

Then he goes to call her a getaway. It keeps him from the Hell, and makes it feel like home. It shows he loves her and she makes him happy.

    "A diamond gold ring
    Customized to cut your circulation"

And this shows how he marries her, and she can't cheat on him like that. Yet, he still loves her. "No, I never let you go my dear. So keep talking cause I love to hear your voice"

The song itself is pure genius with metaphors and such. I'm sorry for such a long post, but it means so much to me and I've listened to it countless times. When it comes to lyrics, it's my favorite Pierce the Veil song. (the only tie being Southern Constellations)

General Comment:I think it's about a relationship going wrong, and the girl leaves him.
He doesn't even know who she is anymore, after all whats happened. He tries to kill himself by cutting; 'How do you know how deep to go before it's real?" The beginning is pretty self explanatory. The whole song is about the bittersweet feelings he has for this girl, how he will still lover her no matter what happens and what she does.

My Interpretation:ok I definetly think that this song is a bout marriage or just love and breaking up. in the beginning he's like "were you honest when you said i could nvr leave your bed?" like did you really mean we would always be together? and then the knife represents love.. i think.. its weird but that's what i thnk.. like he stabed love into her but didnt go deep enough.. and she wants to leave.. hes like do i even complicate ur breathing?.. do i even matter to u at all? he trys to convince himself to go on but about halfway through he says.. "Wrap this up with a lie that Im enjoying every minute with myself
And she could make hell feel just like home
So Im never leaving her alone" like he knows he cant go on without her.. so hes going to do anything.. he goes on to say things like "y did little mona lisa tell a lie?" and " do u want me?" like hes baisically saying y r u leaving.. then hes like even thought u dont like it ( the ring cuts ur circulation) ur staying (Im nvr guna let you go)
thats just wat i think anyways... i could be way off but it fits in my mind :)

    Song Meaning:in my opinion;
Were you honest when you said "I could never leave your bed." is saying that the girl lied about loving him and she left him a confused mess. Or he never meant anything to him in the first place and she was just playing him ("Can I even complicate your breathing? I guess I'm just your average boy")

"You're my getaway" could be saying that when he was with her he didn't worry about all his worries and just let them be together, also not noticing her drawing away from him..

"Little Mona Lisa told a lie" - With Mona Lisa he could be metaphoring her and the way she lied to him and herself.

He gets so distraught over her that he goes numb inside, blocknig everyone out; he starts to cut ("How deep do you go before its real?") and is rushed to hospital under attempted suicide ("Another boy without a sharper knife")

and thats all I get at first glance with a little help from the pretty video. :3

General Comment:Sooooo, I know the lyrics in the album are listed as saying "But if your lightning lips aren't mine"

..... But as many times as I listen to it to me it always sounds like "But if your light blue lips aren't mine"

Anyone else find it sounds like that?

General Comment:I think the boy in the song is actually kind of pathetic. He is utterly obsessed with something that he can't have BECAUSE he is obsessed with it. He says that if he can't have her lips than she is an awkward stranger. To me this says that he won't get to know her unless he can have her. Which gives real men a bad name.

The ambulance said "he was just another boy without a sharper knife." Meaning he tried to kill himself over "the awkward stranger." I suggest that whoever the character of the song is should just gets a doll to sleep with since he is just treating her like a Doll Face anyway.
