@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
I don't know if you notice anything different
It's getting dark and it's getting cold and the nights are getting long
And I don't know if you even notice at all
That I'm long gone babe I'm long gone
And the things that keep us apart
Keep me alive
And the things that keep me alive
Keep me alone
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
I don't know if you notice anything missing
Like the leaves on the trees or my clothes all over the floor
And I don't know if you even notice at all
'Cause I was real quiet when I closed the door
And the things that keep us apart
Keep me alive
And the things that keep me alive
Keep me alone
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
And I don't know if you notice anything, different
I don't know if you even notice at all
And I don't know if you notice anything missing
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
It's getting dark and it's getting cold and the nights are getting long
And I don't know if you even notice at all
That I'm long gone babe I'm long gone
And the things that keep us apart
Keep me alive
And the things that keep me alive
Keep me alone
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
I don't know if you notice anything missing
Like the leaves on the trees or my clothes all over the floor
And I don't know if you even notice at all
'Cause I was real quiet when I closed the door
And the things that keep us apart
Keep me alive
And the things that keep me alive
Keep me alone
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
And I don't know if you notice anything, different
I don't know if you even notice at all
And I don't know if you notice anything missing
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing
This is the thing

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

this song is incredible.
i think its like, about a relationship growing stale.
"I don't know if you notice anything different It's getting dark and it's getting cold and the nights are getting long And I don't know if you even notice at all That I'm long gone" its like saying. i don't know if you notice, but i dont love you anymore. its also like saying, cant you notice i'm away? [on the record he says its justifying why you're never there, always out recording].
"And the things that keep us apart Keep me alive And the things that keep me alive Keep me alone This is the thing"
thats like saying... i can't live with you... and also like, my music keeps me alive, and if its keeping me apart from you and alone so be it, i need it to live.
also... correction... like the leave on the trees or my clothes on the floor.
its an amazing song.
I interpreted this as a guy with a drug habit and has to go to rehab, especially this line:
And the things that keep us apart Keep me alive
And the things that keep me alive Keep me alone
I actually had the pleasure of seeing Fink live and when he talked about this song my friends said they def thought he was confessign that it alluded to a drug problem... just something to think about
When I saw fink he said that this song was about being with someone, but having a career or something i.e music that means you will be away from that person a lot and having to deal with it. A beautiful song, but vague enough to mean many things to many people.
And the things that keep us apart Keep me alive And the things that keep me alive Keep me alone This is the thing.......
Beautiful!!
"It's getting dark and it's getting cold and the nights are getting long"
These lyrics are so deep, everyone can relate to this in some way. I think its about a boy and a girl, they had something special before but as time passes things change, people change, the things that kept them together before aren't enough anymore. All i can say from personal experience, if the things that keep you apart keep you alive, maybe you are better off alone.
It's about a guy who has a girlfriend and a date tonight after playing love songs most of the day and sex songs last night. Same ol' same ol'. No biggie when he's not yours and you're not his. Good song and I hope he has a nice evening.
i think the (...) goes
"like the leaves on the trees or my clothes all over the floor"
gorgeous tune
i stumbled across this artist on iTunes and instantly fell in love with this song. Amazing
"I don't know if you notice anything missing Like the leaves on the trees or my clothes on the floor"
i love those lines, they're so pretty.
Lyrics are briliant. The person has been sleeping with the same girl for awhile, but there is a glitch that keeps them from being more. He is tired of it so he quits coming around thinking it will spark her to come after him. And she never comes, a "season" has changed - but still nothing. Perhaps it is his pride that keeps him from calling her and in turn what has kept him alone?
"And the things that keep us apart<br /> Keep me alive<br /> And the things that keep me alive<br /> Keep me alone<br /> This is the thing"<br /> <br /> Brilliant chorus, but what are 'the things'?<br /> <br /> I don't think the song is explicit about what 'the things' is. Could be music as x-shai-x said, it could be touring, it could be sleeping with groupies, who knows? <br /> <br /> i think 'the things' are intentionally left open-ended. Open to interpretation can make lyrics more relevant.
i like your take on his lyrics gorms....i've totally been in this situation and i feel like that's definitely a good gauge of what he's talking about
