You've got the moneymaker
You've got the moneymaker
You've got the moneymaker
This is your chance to make it
Out, out, out, oh yeah
You'll get out, out, out, oh yeah

You've got the moneymaker
They showed the money to you
You showed them what you can do
Showed them your money
Make you get out, out, out, oh yeah
You'll get out, out, out, oh yeah

You are the moneymaker
She is yours for the taking
You know you want to make her
Show her your moneymaker
She said out, out, out, hell yeah
She said out, out, out, yeah
You get out, out, out, oh yeah
You get out, out, out, oh yeah

And it's in my hands
I will if you want me to

She says out, out, out, hell yeah
She says out, out, out, yeah
You get out, out, out, oh yeah
You get out, out, out, oh yeah

General Comment:Is anyone else sick of reading reviews from people who swear they're Gene Siskel reincarnated??? It totally saturates the comments tab full of irrelevant arrogance; when are the peeps behind songmeanings.net gonna wake up and realize they need a thread dedicated completely to REVIEWS to avoid this problem?...

Frustrations aside, my interpretation of this song connects it with the track previous, "close call". The way I see it, she sings of a man/woman who lived his/her life in a precarious crab shoot that is prostitution and general hooliganism, but found his/her golden opportunity into the porn industry. Given my view is accurate, I feel it's sad when porn is your only safe haven from a shit, uncertain life; out of the fire and into the simmering pan, I suppose. I've nothing against porn (egalitarian porn that is), imho, it's just another form of an uncertain life wherein contracting STD's is your reason for purchasing an insurance policy :(

General Comment:i cannot agree more with those who say this album disappointed them. there is a drastic difference b/w evolution and regression. these lyrics mean absolutely nothing to me. yes, the sound is decent, and you can dance to the songs. but, really, when you're up at night and feeling kind of nostalgic, is this what you're going to reach for? and isn't it the artist's goal to evoke sincere emotion?

General Comment:Is the "Diamonds" line a reference to Marilyn Monroe or costume jewellery of adult entertainers? I agree about it being a great song for getting ready too; it's so sexy and groovy! I'm watching the video for the first time on youtube atm and think it's VERY sexy :) lol

General Comment:this song is pretty catchy but it's really disappointing compared to rilo kiley's previously amazing albums. It's completely different and kind of a sell out. But I still love them.

General Comment:This song is pure sex. I listen to it when I'm getting dressed for a party or anything that requires a longer preparation time.

General Comment:"I agree with the above post. The best part about rilo kiley was always their amazing lyrics, not jenny's voice."

    um, what?

some of the people commenting here are gret representations of the reasons why i'm embarrassed for being a member of the young indie rock scene.

General Comment:worst thing you could ever say about any band ever=sell out, just because you're a in a total i hate the world and anything "mainstream" state of mind and think that bands who change their sound up or become "popular" are somehow breaking some unwritten band law doesn't mean that a band "is selling out." music is an expression to the artists that make it, they DO NOT cater to anyone's needs but their own. get over your i'm an scene/indie/emo kid ego, please.

General Comment:I hate it. I dislike 90% of the album. I noticed looking through their past that they DO IN FACT change with each record.

"Takes Offs and Landings" was a little indie-pop, kind of generic but still very fun and listenable and had great words (especially "Pictures of Success," one of their best songs every.)

"Execution of All Things" was more country/folky-ish. Their country roots came out, in songs like Good That Won't Come Out (another one of their best songs ever) and "Arms Outstretched." In my opinion, this is them at their best, on this album.

"More Adventurous" is where they get risky. They became a rock outfit, but still had a couple of their roots on some (like the glorious "Absence of God," the great title track, and the complex but spectacular "A Man/Me/Then Jim." Even their rockier songs, "Portions for Foxes" and "Love and War (11/11/46)" were really good and catchy and still had fantastic lyrics. I miss pre-Adventurous RK, but loved them all the while.

Now, with Under The Blacklight, they've gone to far. Too sleezy, thoughtless, and dumb. They're like a regular pop/rock band now. "Moneymaker" has less than 14 different lines, and the chorus is merely fiery panting. "Dejalo" rambles off stupid Spanish attempts and "Smoke Detector" is just limp. Jenny's lyrics are completely shot here, and I understand completely their concept, and what they wanted to write about, and they wrote about it. Good for them. But in doing so they lost their best assets: Lyrics. The music overall is fine, and "Silver Lining" ranks among one of their best songs, especially since it's the most old-RK here, and "Dreamworld" is hands down the best Blake Sennet song they've/he's done. But, the rest of the album is littered with none-too-effective lyrics and boring repetition. I hope this is a phase. Unlike most RK fans (not necessarily on here, I mean anywhere) I can defend my extreme distaste for the album. I only give it about a 4 out of 10. Maybe a 3.5.

This song sucks, so sorry to give you a giant review. But it just kept coming out.

    Bye,

General Comment:granted the video is in a smut shop but that doesnt mean the song is just about "simplistic porn." i read the album was about the darker side of LA as Jenny was quoted in an interview, "...songs about sex, drugs, infidelity, murder, and betrayal. They might seem pretty on the outside, but put them under the blacklight and you might see the things you dont necessarily want to see."

I think this song is in response to the record industry and their money grubbing antics and the porn industry is a metaphor kind of/ the songs theme. well, i'm probably wrong but those are just my thoughts on it.

General Comment:DCFCAlex, there's a difference between "changing" your sound and turning into pop rock.

If people thought More Adventurous was "poppy", then this is fucking Billie Jean.
