If I say too bad
I'll take a lesson in my head
I've got to have till I am dead

Now I've got these chores
And I'm never going to hurt no one
And when at last my work is done

If I (x9)

If I say too bad
I'll take a lesson in my head
I've got to have till I am dead

Now I've got these chores
And I'm never going to hurt no one
And when at last my work is done

If I (x36)

I only want the time
To do one thing that I like
I want to get so stoned
And take a walk out in the light drizzle
At the end of the day
When there's no one watching

At the end of the day
When there's no one watching

My Interpretation:I personally don't think this song is about getting stoned really. I think it's about him doing his work and being able to do what he wants after. What he wants to do is get stoned but it's not really talking specifically about getting stoned I don't think.

General Comment:Yeah, one of the good things about animal collective is that they say exactly what they mean. No investigation necessary.

    It's not going to happen.

    straight out of the album.

General Comment:Some people look too deeply into lyrics I think.

How could this possibly be about anything more than just going to work, coming home, and getting stoned?

General Comment:yea. I feel like live he does the "booklet lyrics" in the slower half of the new version of chores...but I can almost swear that he sings the lyrics posted on here during the fast parts.

General Comment:haha a lot of people are defiantly over analyzing this song. it's about getting all your work done and then getting high as a celebration after. at least it is to me.

General Comment:Its pretty clear that this song follows many of the themes expressed in the album. Its about growing up and having to accept responsibility, even if you don't want to. I know one or more of the members had recently had a child, so this makes a lot of sense. This song is just about having to do chores and take responsibility, and though he would rather go outside and get stoned. Instead of just being able to do the latter, he has to do his chores first, implying he has come to accept his responsibility. Further, the responsibility he now requires as a father and wanting to get stoned are not necessarily mutually antagonistic.

General Comment:I think the repeating "If I" is symbolic of the monotony of a daily routine.

General Comment:i definitely think this is about the stresses of everyday life and how all you want is to escape and relax. slow down time and just take a moment for yourself with no one to bother you. specially how the tone changes when he says "At the end of the day When there's no one watching", the mood throughout the beginning is fast pace meaning everyday life and the ends peacefully with you taking the time to relax.
