Dedication's the price you pay
Initiated are coddled and caged
Before you walk, as soon as you crawl
Hope is pointless when you're stuck in the trawl

Fuck the freshman lectures and blandishments
They just betray impoverished accomplishments
The puppet masters fear originality
They tighten up the tethers and they shackle your feet
Submission complete

Young recruits never have a chance
Enticed to the drill, admonished to dance
Early to rise and early to shine
Life is long but the end is nigh

Break the guilty trammels from yesteryear
Remember how rejuvenation conquers all fears
Lowly opportunists take commanding roles
And hawk ultimatums so their weakness won't show

The sad reflection of dead ambition
You live for nothing
Submission complete

Yeah, break the guilty trammels from yesteryear
Remember how the taste of failure makes it all clear
The lowly opportunists take commanding roles
And hawk ultimatums so their weakness won't show

The sad reflection of dead ambition
You live for nothing
Expectation, indoctrination
Life's damnation
Submission complete

Dying on your feet
Submission complete
A total defeat

General Comment:George Orwell said " It is possible to dehumanize all society, and for life to go on.."

My own interpretation of this relates to; put in your best effort in the given structural limitations your confined in.. and when submission is complete.. you either make the grade or your not good enough.. Like applying for college or like the asshole guy who took me aside today and told me I didn't make the baseball team and come back next year...

But actually, It seems to may apply to college structural mandates to form the nations youth... and we all know thats a circus.. of professorial senility.. ( I know from experience)..

But from the lyrics.. it seems to be most likely about military recruits. The predominant core of them, uneducated, joined to put some kind of substantial purpose in their lives because they cant see past it and feel the urgency to do something of the sort.. they don't have the wisdom yet to understand that its merely a "trawl" of irrational indoctrination...

and for the many whom died for our country.. Submission Complete.. for them now.

General Comment:This song has to do with giving up your dreams. The narrator urges you to give up your dreams (break the guilty trammels of yesteryear) to join the masses, to gain security and comfort (the taste of failure makes it all clear). The freshmen lectures and brandishments lead to dreams, which may lead to success (impoverished accomplishments). to stop it, the puppetmasters (society?) "tighten your strings" and make it difficult for you to reach your goals. People are drilled from the beginning that money, comfort, security are the most important things to look for in life, and people start looking for the easy ways to accomplish that, no matter what they may have to give up to reach it. this song is about the reflection of dead ambition: about those who gave up their goals, their dreams, and their hopes.

General Comment:To add on to my previous comment, I think it also has to do with how, in college, people want to get others to join frats and sororities, and after you get in, after all the promises that these self-righteous pricks make to you, the promises are broken and you have to be their bitch to gain any kind of status from them, and it almost seems pointless to the point of giving up. Thus goes for the second part where it sounds like Mr. Greg is singing about kids being recruited to the military and they feel like they aren't going anywhere but to be tortured and ridiculed until they finally break down, but it doesn't matter because they are told that they will amount to nothing without joining A: the frat/sorority, or B: The military

General Comment:To me, this song pretty much means that they give us only 2 roads to walk down: Go to school and be brainwashed by professors or join the military and be brainwashed by the Generals, etc... and we "have to" take their word on everything or else we amount to nothing. I only went to college for 2 years, and am doing better now than I was in college. So you don't really need college or the military to become successful, but society limits us down to those two options at the given time

What I personally think about this part here, is how in college, many times they don't care if you're telling the truth: the care if you spout back the bullshit they say.

General Comment:I'm agreeing with the "Boot Stamping" comment - again I think it is a song about Orwell's 1984 -

The sad reflection of dead ambition
    You live for nothing
    Submission complete!

I think is about when Winston gives in at the end and gives up his girlfriend, submitting himself and destroying the last of his ambition
