Lyrics for Stadium Love as interpreted by tinylittlewords

Stadium Love Lyrics
Wanna make a bet
Will be making it
Taking off the gloves.
Spider verses bat
Tiger verses rat
Rabbit verses dove

Wanna make a bet
Odds are neck and neck
Taking off the gloves.
Spider verses bat
Tiger verses rat
Owl verses dove

Every living thing
Pushed into the ring
Fight it out to wow the crowd
Guess he thought
We could just watch
But no one's getting out.

Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love.
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love.

Wanna make a trade
Cougar for a snake
Wanna fall in love.
Wanna make a deal
Angel verses eel
Owl verses dove.

Every living thing
Pushed into the ring
Fight it out to wow the crowd
Guess he thought
We could just watch
But no one's getting out.

Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love.
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, stadium love.
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love.
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo

The ACTUAL lyrics:

Wanna make a bet
We'll be neck to neck
Taking off the gloves
Spider versus bat
Tiger versus rat
Rabbit versus dove

Wanna make a bet
Odds are neck to neck
Taking off the gloves
Spider versus bat
Tiger versus rat
Owl versus dove

Every living thing
Pushed into the ring
Fight it out to wow the crowd
Guess you thought
You couldn't just watch
No one's getting out

Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, without stadium love
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, without stadium love

Wanna make a trade
Cougar for a snake
Wanna fall in love
Wanna make a deal
Angel versus eel
Owl versus dove

Every living thing
Pushed into the ring
Fight it out to wow the crowd
Guess you thought
You couldn't just watch
No one's getting out

Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, without stadium love
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, without stadium love

Oh-oh-ooooo, Oh-oh-ooooo

We've got stadium love

Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love
Ooo, Ooo, Ooo, we've got stadium love

Stadium... love
Stadium... love, love, love, love...

Not so hot on the new album, except for "Help, I'm Alive," "Gimme Sympathy," and "Stadium Love" which might be my favorite Metric song ever. I love the way Emily's vocals blend with the music, particularly when she sings "stadium." I also love how she sings "sta-di-UM" at the end and the bombast of the song. It sounds really big.

This article is posted in Metric's Official Site. Emily explains the meaning of Stadium Love:

“I had just gotten back from Coachella, and I walked into the studio and noticed on the bulletin board that Joules had written ‘spider vs bat,’ i think he had been obsessively watching all these National Geographic animals-fighting-each-other-videos in his hotel room. For me, that phrase triggered an entire narrative that was about a gladiator-style enormo-dome where everything turns in on itself, with every form of aggression on display for spectators: monster trucks ramming into each other, bull fighting, sweaty men wrestling. And then you have these animals completely disconnected from the logic of their natural habitat, so you have a swan pecking the shit out of an elephant and pigs biting the necks out of tigers, and bats attacking spiders. And then in the seats, the spectators are kicking the shit out of each other too. There’s this completely blurred line between spectator and participant, and we’re all trapped in this fucked up Noah’s Ark. The images came to me all at once, and I wrote the lyrics on the spot.”

personally, i love metric's lyrics so much for they appear to be so open to relation from the listener. I find their "stadium love" to represent an ultimate achievement of peace, and we personally can decide what kind we are looking for.

for me, this song reveals all the frustration with the shit that drama and competition brings to our lives between all the mixes of people that we know.
"every living thing pushed into the ring"--all these problems are going to be thrown together and finally solved.. and
"guess you thought you could just watch?" reflects everyone who won't own up to their faults--the by-standers that sit back and just watch the show.. "no one's getting out without stadium love" reflects that everyone must make and effort in order to ultimately achieve peace among one another.

I think Stadium Love is open to us for each of us personally--me being all the drama in my life, just wanting to throw it all together, forget the mind-games and just fkng solve it.

To others, it may be something different.

After hearing this song a number of times I have a good feeling it could very well be about Pokemon. Animals, fighting, trading. Its a stretch but if you think about it, it makes sense.

Everything is correct in SadXuHuang's version of the lyrics except one line(in two spots):
"Guess you thought, you couldn't just watch"
Should be:
"Guess you thought, you could just watch"

It goes along with the next line that no one's getting out without stadium love, which is a battle that involves everyone and everything.

'Couldn't' doesnt make much sense in the context of the sentence.

This song is rad as hell.

Just wanna say, this song is AMAZING live. I saw them in MPLS last june. Before they ended with this song, Emily talked about how humans were systematically destroying the natural world. I know she gave an explanation in an interview, but today this interpretation dawned on me.

Wanna make a bet
We'll be neck to neck
Taking off the gloves
Spider versus bat
Tiger versus rat
Rabbit versus dove

Wanna make a bet
Odds are neck to neck
Taking off the gloves
Spider versus bat
Tiger versus rat
Owl versus dove
