Dear Ms. White,

Put down this night
You wouldn't believe how much it snows
In the summer heat with red iron feet
You'll be nursing a bloody nose

Princess, rest
We talk in our sleep
But wouldn't dare to sit too close
I can't be your prince
Though your secrets are safe
I am the mirror who can't let go

With hair as black as night
Her skin, a dead, pearly white
And the blood, red on the bathroom wall

With every breath and every intake
Tip-toe further away
Further away from this mistake
I'm no savior, I'm no saint, saint
(That's not what you needed anyway)
All the cold that you caught
The bones that you bought
The blood that you've lost
You built your body
In the coffin where you sleep

Let this apartment breathe
'Cause it's what it needs
I'm suffocating the clock to keep you
I think like a saint
But swing like a thief
And inadvertently leading you
To believe I'm your prince
Adorn your bedroom with hints
Take the red from your eyes
And ink it into your skin
Now watch what you say
'Cause there's nothing grey
About the color of your sin

With hair as black as night
Her skin, a dead, pearly white
And the blood, red on the bathroom wall

With every breath and every intake
Tip-toe further away
Further away from this mistake
I'm no savior, I'm no saint, saint
(That's not what you needed anyway)
All the cold that you caught
The bones that you bought
The blood that you've lost
You built your body
In the coffin where you sleep

A fix
Just a little bit
Give the girl enough to sleep through this
So stop staring at the mirror
Before it tells you the truth
Cooperate or it'll kill you, too

With every breath and every intake
Tip-toe further away
You're bleeding, you're bloodshot
Tired mistake
I'm no savior, I'm no saint, saint
(You need to see the pieces you've thrown away)
All the cold that you caught
The bones that you bought
The blood that you've lost
Keep your body
Get the hell away

From,
Me

General Comment:"In the summer heat with red iron feet"

In a version of the story Snow White (non-Disney version) 'the Queen attends the wedding of the prince and she sees that the bride is Snow White. Her feet are then forcibly placed into iron slippers that had been sitting on red hot coals and she dances and dances until she drops down dead.'

General Comment:Since I'm always crazy with findind things out, I decided to look up Lucy Gray and really, it's a poem about a girl that couldn't be found after a snow storm, you can read about it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… but anyways, when they say "you wouldn't believe how much it snows" I think they're refering to the poem, but the whole drug references thing make a lot of sense.

General Comment:first of all, it's "dear miss white, oh damn this night."

"princess rest, we'll talk in our sleep"

"the cold that you caught, the bones that you brought" (no, not blow that you bought)

"i think like a saint, but swing like a thief."

    and finally,
"keep your body and the hell away from me."

General Comment:i like how this is written as a letter. i dunno if that was the submitter's choice or if the band actually intended for it to be viewed that way, but the ending with

    stay the hell away,
    from me

    is SO AWESOME.

General Comment:Yes it is true this song is about a drug addiction more spicificly Cocaine. Basucky Ryan is telling his friend who is a female that she is destroying herself and she does not know it. He also mentions that they have a love type relationship but he can't save her because "he is not her prince" it also shows that they are in some what up a romantic situation when he says "And go in your bedroom with hits" as if she is seducing him. He also denys being a savior or a saint throught the song "Im no savior, Im no saint" meaning he cares but can't help her. Also in the backround after that like you can hear "(thats not what you needed anyway)" also refering to that he can't save her. I think it really sums up that he is trying to help her notice that she is in trouble in the screaming part which he urges he she is killing herself. He also is using snow white as you all have said as a way to describe the story. There are many other things pointing twords drug use and addicition. But these are the main points. Greatly written song.

General Comment:This song is definitely about cocaine and the whole Snow White thing, since many speculate that the seven dwarfs are symbolic of stages of addiction, and Snow White is obviously cocaine.

Upon reading the original Grimm's fairytale of Little Snow White, it becomes even more obvious that this song is partly in reference to snow white.

"With red-iron feet, you'll be nursing a bloody nose"

comes from the last line of the fairytale where Snow White dies:

"Then they put a pair of iron shoes into burning coals. They were brought forth with tongs and placed before her. She was forced to step into the red-hot shoes and dance until she fell down dead."

Red-iron feet. Makes so much more sense to me now.

General Comment:i think that the "snow" reference does go back to a cocaine addiction, particularly the part about "nursing a bloody nose," but i found these lines very interesting:

(also, i could be wrong about this but in reference to the "summer heat," one of cocaine's short term effect is increased body temperature)

    We talk in our sleep
But wouldn't dare to sit too close
    I can't be your prince
    Though your secrets are safe
I am the mirror who can't let go

as far as those lines are concerned, it sounds like the singer purposely tries to stick around while his friend is getting high, acting like somewhat of a guardian in terms of watching out for the girl. although he is with her, he doesn't want to appear too close to her because he realizes that he can't be her prince, the one who saves her. and although he realizes he can't save her,at the same time he can't let go of her. he tries to show her the effects of her addiction, acting like a mirror to reflect what she has become.

General Comment:I wonder if it's about all three things: cocaine, snow white, and vampires..

When you think about it, all of those are destructive in some way - cocaine is obvious, snow white's naievity lead to her demise (in the original tale), and vampires take lives.

I feel like it's possible that he is writing about this girl (Lucy Gray, Ms. White, etc.) has been a destructive influence in his life but addictive at the same time; by doing cocaine, by being a "sleeping princess," and by being a "blood-sucking vampire." All three show how he may be addicted to her and her destructive lifestyle..

or maybe I'm totally off base
