Found my way to the highway
I don't wanna tell you the state I'm in
I've had too much to smoke, too much to drink
Where have I been?
I feel like the stars are getting closer
And the sky is closing in
And I don't know where to begin

We're all looking for something
To take away the pain

Me and you and my medication
(Making the best of it)
Love is just a chemical creation
(Will it be permanent?)
Synthetic sensation
Me, you, and my medication

The way back to the right track
Maybe you can help me find the door
Is it too much to ask, too much too fast
Too much to ignore?
It feels like your body's getting closer
But you seem so far away
Medicine make it okay

We're all looking for someone
To take away the pain

Me and you and my medication
(Making the best of it)
Love is just a chemical creation
(Will it be permanent?)
Synthetic sensation
Me, you, and my medication

So can you feel it?
Do you feel it coming down?
You gotta get up
Can you get up off the ground?
Can you hear it?
Can you hear me screaming?
So can you feel it?
Do you feel it coming down?
You gotta get up
Can you get up off the ground?
I wanna hear it
Wanna hear you breathing

We're all addicted to something
That takes away the pain

Me and you and my medication
(Making the best of it)
Love is just a chemical creation
(Will it be permanent?)
Synthetic sensation
Me, you, and my medication

General Comment:I feel like this song is about a guy who has been through a lot in his life or one really bad event, therefore turns to drugs and drinking to handle it to take away his pain. When he says "love is just a chemical creation, will it be permanent?" I think he's trying to say his drugs are his idea of "love" b/c of what he's been through, but he doesn't know how long this "love" (aka his high) will last. He meets a girl that he's beginning to fall for, and he thinks she can help him, but he's afraid to open up, b/c he thinks that she may get freaked out about how many issues he has, but he is too disoriented at this point to understand that she really wants to help ("Found my way to the highway, I don't wanna tell you the state I'm in," sounds like he's embarrassed, and "Is it too much to ask, too much too fast, too much to ignore?" sounds like he thinks she'll just abadon him when she finds out about his problem).
"Feels like your body's getting closer, but you seem so far away, medicine make it okay," means that she is there for him physically, but he feels she doesn't understand, so he's taking more drugs to cope with the feeling of being misunderstood. Regardless, he turns to medication to take away the pain of the problems he's had, but he turns to the girl to take away the pain of his addiction to this medicine. The "synthetic sensation" is also the feeling his drug gives him. "Can you feel it? Do you feel it coming down? You gotta get up, gotta get up off the ground. Can you hear it? Can you hear me screaming?..." sounds like he's having an out of body experience. Maybe he's overdosed, and he's passed out and he is screaming at himself to get up and get it together.

Just my extremely long take. I love this song so much. :)

General Comment:for what i'm thinking, the guy fall in love with a girl who he couldn't has her... so he is taking drugs and drinks to take away the pain...

"Love is just a chemical creation
    (Will it be permanent?)
    Synthetic sensation"

He thought that love is a chemical creation, he is waiting for it to disappear, he believe this love for her wont be permanent, if it will be, then he will probably living in pain permanent... he is lying to himself that this love is a fake...

i'm guessing, he is trying to forget the girl he loves because he know he cant get her...

General Comment:I think that it him and this girl he broke up with, and he's trying to hide the pain or take it away with another chick...

General Comment:Sounds to me like the writer is disenfranchised with contemporary society [aka EMO], but he's fallen in love and wonders if it's real or just the drugs talking.

Will it last or will they come down off of some high?

General Comment:What I get out of the song is the character of the song is just watching their own life spiral down, and that person ends up turning to drugs and drinking as a way to dull the pain their feeling. (Granted that is damn obvious, bare with me.)

    - "Found my way to the highway
I don't wanna tell you the state I'm in
I've had too much to smoke, too much to drink
    Where have I been?"

The character is turning to someone they care about, telling that "girl" that he doesn't understand what he is doing and he wants to change. He is asking "her"to help him stop his addiction, his way of dealing with the pain.

-"And I don't know where to begin..."
-"The way back to the right track
Maybe you can help me find the door."

As he is confessing to "her" what his problems are I assume she is uncormfortable with it? From what I understand, regardless of what happened, "she" seems to be distant, maybe what he was telling "her" about was to much and "she" felt differently about him.

-"Is it too much to ask, too much too fast
    Too much to ignore?
It feels like your body's getting closer
But you seem so far away."

So instead of "her" being his addiction, his cure to the pain, he is now forced to go back to drugs as a well to dull what he is feeling.

    -"Medicine make it okay."

General Comment:the song actually is about one of martin's old friends. He was a very close friend and he was dipping heavily into drugs and drinking, and one day he over dosed. So martin went and wrote this some about them,.
