Good Morning Dear
I hope I didn't wake you too soon
Because my mind is growing tired
Too much thinking what I should do
I picture you out there
It must be beautiful this time of year
All those East Coast leaves
Floating round like embers from burning trees
Well the weather out here is just the same
But the garden that you planted remains.
Now it's only work
Each day bleeding into the next
Barely scraping by I tire myself out just so I can rest
But rest it rarely comes
And when it does I cannot go home
Because it's much too quiet
Seems that I'm not suited to being in love
And everyone around me's changed
But the garden that you planted remains.
I think about you
Maybe more than I should
But the smog is getting old
The drugs I'm taking aren't so good
So will you talk to me
Even though you've had a late night
Because I need a little help
Baby, tell me I'll be alright
Cause everything around me's changed
But the garden that you planted remains
I hope I didn't wake you too soon
Because my mind is growing tired
Too much thinking what I should do
I picture you out there
It must be beautiful this time of year
All those East Coast leaves
Floating round like embers from burning trees
Well the weather out here is just the same
But the garden that you planted remains.
Now it's only work
Each day bleeding into the next
Barely scraping by I tire myself out just so I can rest
But rest it rarely comes
And when it does I cannot go home
Because it's much too quiet
Seems that I'm not suited to being in love
And everyone around me's changed
But the garden that you planted remains.
I think about you
Maybe more than I should
But the smog is getting old
The drugs I'm taking aren't so good
So will you talk to me
Even though you've had a late night
Because I need a little help
Baby, tell me I'll be alright
Cause everything around me's changed
But the garden that you planted remains

Their death has caused him to become depressed, only barely getting by in life. He's having trouble sleeping, but when he finally feels tired enough to sleep he can't because the house is empty. Everybody else has gotten over the death, except for him.
He's saying that he should probably move on, but finally realizes that he won't ever be able to do that in the last verse. He speaks out to his lover in hopes that they will comfort him.
After we broke up I still watered it for awhile. Even months after i had stopped watering it, it was still there. Until someone accidentally mowed over it.
But there are still fragments of it there.
But besides that this song has always really touched me
My very serious [relationship-wise] boyfriend moved to New York this year and we started dating in the fall,
a year before he left, and it always makes me think of him, especially the line about the east coast leaves.
This band is really amazing.
This song has affected me since the moment I first heard it. It always struck me as sad and sweet, not in a desperate or pleading way, but in a content way. As if the man was content to wait forever.
I can relate.
